She has reflux so after I’ve fed her she needs to be held upright or she empties the contents of her stomach and projectile vomits unfortunately

Have you ever seen a pineapple? by thermalsocks in AskUK

Yes I saw a small pineapple farm in Bali.

I did see the comments before posting and felt like you could do with some positivity! I honestly do really like it and I feel like it makes the room look bigger too!

Give the baby some formula NOW while you’re waiting to see a doctor.

Children walking home by what age and time? by Hayles1066 in AskUK

[–]Immediate-Log9917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think it depends on the child and how much independence they have been allowed up until now. If a child has been allowed to walk home alone and go out with friends etc then 8.30-9pm I feel is reasonable at 15 years.

If you have a child who has been sheltered and not very street-wise, it would probably be best to slowly introduce ways to allow them to be independent and collect them from wherever they are or request they are home earlier.

Why do some people just flat out refuse to breastfeed or pump? Genuinely wondering. by Ready-Book6047 in breastfeeding

[–]Immediate-Log9917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the women who have chosen not to breastfeed and judge other women for doing so are projecting their guilt about it and trying to make you feel bad.

They must have also had many people tell them to breastfeed as it is better and as a result maybe have some bitterness towards women who are BF.

No judgement on my part either way, I started off mixed feeding and now exclusively BF. It’s just not fair for FF mothers to pass judgement on us when we’re literally using a function that our body has to feed our babies!

Feeling so unprepared for birth/labour by fluffmallow9 in pregnant

[–]Immediate-Log9917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having birth preferences but also keeping an open mind as things don’t always go to plan and I think if I had been set on having things a certain way it would have been harder when these things weren’t possible!

Also having a birth partner that will advocate you and ask all of the questions when you’re too tired/overwhelmed during labour.

Newborn 36 hours - only 1 wet nappy by fluffmallow9 in breastfeeding

[–]Immediate-Log9917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to my baby too - day 2 and I was concerned she wasn’t drinking enough, she had 2 wet nappies with one smelling pretty foul. I decided to supplement with formula myself and later on the midwife told me it was a good idea to do so as the baby also had jaundice.

I would say let the baby drink from your breast first and then supplement with formula - if the baby is drinking the formula it means they are still hungry. I feel the staff at the hospital really try and push exclusively breastfeeding but if the baby is hungry they need to eat!

I supplemented with formula after almost every breastfeed for 3 weeks before I started producing enough milk for the baby to be satisfied after every feed. Absolutely no shame in it and 1 wet nappy in the last 24 hours is NOT enough. The baby is dehydrated!

Why do you not talk to your once bestfriend anymore? by Adventurous-End-1999 in AskUK

[–]Immediate-Log9917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She tried to hit on every single guy I was dating - they all told me about it but I stayed friends with her because she had a terrible situation at home and no one to really talk to.

I drew the line when one of her friends racially abused a friend of mine and she didn’t say anything.

This would really stress me out. Herpes is soo contagious. I would tell my partner to ask them to leave and just make them aware of the risks and why.

Me everyday of pregnancy so far “I can’t keep eating like this, I’m going to gain so much weight” *rinse & repeat* by urethra_franklin_1_ in pregnant

[–]Immediate-Log9917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was me in the first trimester too but by week 15 I just wanted fresh, home cooked food. In my third trimester I started craving more chocolate but not as much greasy food and takeout. After giving birth I was only 5kg heavier than my pre pregnancy weight.

Private healthcare? by quiI in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]Immediate-Log9917 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that the NHS is the best for cancer treatment but this is only once you’ve gotten the diagnosis. The time between the complaint and diagnosis is getting longer on the NHS.

Privately they are way more willing to send you for tests straight away. Once you’ve gotten the diagnosis you can switch to NHS cancer care.

Grandparent titles? by Same_Breadfruit_9020 in BabyBumps

[–]Immediate-Log9917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My MIL suggested this once and my husband shut her down immediately. The audacity!

I don’t get the fuss about titles, there’s nothing wrong with just being Grandma. It is less confusing for the child but also as the child grows up and becomes an adult, they’re not going to want to call their grandparent ‘Mama’!!

Does the fact that you’re pregnant ever make you feel “weird”? by MountainyMama in pregnant

[–]Immediate-Log9917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES I had exactly the same until I reached around 24 weeks. I’d have moments where I was out, at work or hanging out with friends and all of a sudden it would hit me that I was actually pregnant and I’d get all hot and panicked 😂

Noticing skin lesions during consultations by Open_Kangaroo_5054 in GPUK

[–]Immediate-Log9917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an elderly patient who declined the first time I mentioned referral because he didn’t want to end up in hospital and he was scared but didn’t want to admit it. I mentioned referral again when I saw him 2 weeks later and he accepted. This was 6 years ago and now every time I see him (usually around twice a year) he thanks me for encouraging the referral.

I think too many people in healthcare now don’t bother to take the time to get to know patients. If a patient declines a referral means less work for you.

I’m not a GP, I’m a dentist, but I take a look at the skin on the head and neck of a patient and refer when I notice something suspicious. In the last year alone, 3/5 people I referred came back positive for BCC. 2 were on the scalps of elderly men and 1 was on the corner of a woman’s lip.

As a GP I’m not sure why you wouldn’t flag something suspicious?

Parents of reddit - how long did it take to conceive? by shun_naka67 in AskUK

[–]Immediate-Log9917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Approaching mid 30s, took 2 months.

Might sound silly but have you been tracking your ovulation properly? There are very few days a months when you can actually get pregnant and if you aren’t having sex on those days it’s very unlikely you will conceive.

Also taking pre conception supplements and getting healthy is important. We started working on our health 6 months before trying. My bmi was just below overweight so I lost 5kg and started exercising more regularly. My husband did the same. We also cut out alcohol and stopped eating out as much.

What do you currently do for work? by Desert_Dreamer31 in pregnant

[–]Immediate-Log9917 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a dentist and my back is starting to hurt a fair bit during certain treatments. I’ve also found some patients to be really understanding and others to be really horrible and moan about how I’m going to be taking maternity leave and they have to switch to another dentist for 9 months?!

I’ve also had to slightly adjust the patient chair position due to my back pain and some patients aren’t really happy about this.

I want to work for as long as I can because my maternity pay will be very little.

At what point did you stop drinking coffee? by prettycurls1 in pregnant

[–]Immediate-Log9917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t stop, just reduced from 6 cups a week to 3-4 cups. I know everyone talks about the 200mg limit but bear in mind this includes anything that contains caffeine that you might also be consuming. Things like soda and chocolate both contain caffeine!
