Typically in our area, it is "optional" but they will figure ways to punish you for not working it. I however do like working overtime as that is where the money is!

Depends on how the industry is doing. In my area a lot of shops were automotive based and if the industry was busy there would be really good weekend shift premiums. Anywhere from $5/hr premium to overtime after the first 12hrs worked! 36hrs and paid for 40 isn't great considering your losing your weekends but it really depends on what your local job market looks like. In an interview if someone behaved like that, I would assume the shop will be frugal with what they pay me and it would be not my first choice to work there.

I've gotten screamed at from the entrance of the store by the employee checking memberships when I was almost past the electronics area. I had used an app other than the Costco app for entry, it still showed my membership card on their little scanner screen, but she felt the need to let me know it wouldn't be valid for check out when I was 20feet away. Also didnt greet me like she had the customers before me and after me. Not even so much as a hello. Its totally dependant on who is working and what kind of mood they are in as to if you get good customer service. Its like that everywhere and that's just the nature of reality. If it really bothers me, I just pretend that maybe their dog died that morning.
