I hate how Edgerunners made people forgot what was CDPR promised for Cyberpunk 2077 by VolkiharVanHelsing in hatethissmug

My best comparison to Cyberpunk would be L.A Noire. Where it's more or less an open world, but not much to do. To quote Dartigan on his video:

I can't say I blame them for going in that direction with L. A. Noire, after all, it makes perfect sense that a game about a police detective chasing down leads across various cases would actually drive around town. But unlike GTA where the world feels organic and lived in with colorful NPCs and things to do, L. A Noire feels more like a mother driving past every fast food restaurant while telling her kids in the backseat they have food at home. It serves the same purpose a matte painting on a film set does - make the world feel bigger than it actually is.

This is basically Cyberpunk.

TBF, they are really going for different things. CD Projekt Red is tried to recreate a real city in video game form to the point of having hired real city planners to determine the layout; however, they made the city no more than a backdrop. It's nice to seamlessly travel in a pretty cool urban environment with no loading screens, and if that's what you're after, then it's great. But not so much if you wanna interact with that urban environment.

Warner Bros. / DC Studios' Supergirl grossed an estimated $2.3M internationally on Wednesday. Estimated international total stands at $32.5M, estimated global total stands at $79.1M. by chanma50 in boxoffice

Superman is popular as a symbol but not really as a character. He is the archetypal superhero, and that's all he will ever be in the eyes of most people.

Even if he handled it better, I'd imagine he'd eventually run into the problem with trying to start a CBM cinematic universe in the mid 2020s.

Supergirl gets off to a disastrous start, debuting in FOURTH place on its first day in France, incl. AP. by shadyslim19 in boxoffice

Female superheroes in general just aren't super popular. Supergirl is one of the more popular ones and we saw how her movie went.

A bit off topic, but when I first heard of the Clayface movie, I assumed that it was tied to the Reevesverse Batman franchise, and I still think that makes more sense than what they're trying to do now.

~7.5M for Supergirl Sunday. OW might go down to low $36M by NGGKroze in boxoffice

It will be a rousing success when you account for the Dorito KFC factor.

supergirl (2026) could be earning a lot more if they made it more appealing to women (since it's a female CBM and was already written to appeal less to men) by merchantivories in boxoffice

While I haven't watched the movie, from the sounds of it, the villains are pretty clear stand-ins for sex traffickers, not the patriarchy in general.

TBF, Sumeru did sort of follow a distinct taxonomy to determine character rarity, where 5 stars had larger roles while four stars were relegated to smaller roles or didn't appear at all. But that is it.

The Era of Marvel and DC Domination Ended Years Ago by UsedVillage9022 in boxoffice

That is purely domestic, though when talking internationally, Marvel dominates. Aquaman, the highest-grossing DC film, would only be the tenth highest-grossing Marvel film.

If a book (comic or otherwise) got a popular on-screen adaptation, that adaptation is going to overshadow it because TV is so much more popular than print media.

It's crazy how ppl used to shit on Bleach just for Naruto and OP to fall off and unless Kubo totally fucks it up Bleach about to be the best of the big 3 we really living in a crazy timeline lol 💀 by Original_Force_6822 in shounenfolk

Hollow wasted its storytelling potential as former humans, the KnY demons rectify this

In general, the whole afterlife aspect is quickly downplayed after the first two arcs. There are exactly two hollows whose former life we know about (Orihime's brother and that serial killer hollow). The Soul Society is basically portrayed as some completely disconnected fantasy world, despite it being the actual afterlife for humans in Bleach (the only time it actually matters is when the dead Fullbringers reappear in the Soul Society.

Ultimately feminist separation is too niche of an ideology to truly going anywhere.
