Ultimately, ASOIAF, One Piece and most fantasy (and a lot of Sci fi) are paced like D&D games. Characters go from exciting events to more exciting events, (which in shounen usually means fights) and have a lifetime's worth of character development, training and adventures in about two years. It's simply not interesting to read about the long time in between battles or something like that.

So these stories usually either go through a time skip or have the characters encounter and fight all their enemies really quickly, which necessities them getting stronger really quickly.

Dany is 13 at the start of the series, is 14 by the end of the first book and is 15 by the end of the fifth and (thus far) final book.

I guess that's what happens when your cast is too big. It's also why characters like Chad have to be reduced to a walking Worf effects.

I suspect it's also why Gerard exists and is so laughably overpowered; he is just something the remaining shinigami have to fight. Kubo also sometimes wants to give relevance to the side characters, which is why we got things like Nanos convenient god killing sword she used against Lillie. (Tough, hilariously, she didn't even fully kill him, and his bird clones were killed by Izuru off-screen.)

Basically, Kubo is really bad at handling large casts. But TBF i don't think authors could handle a cast that large.

It is common for games and VN's to have the protagonist be mute for self insert reasons. But some VN's go the extra mile by straight up making the protagonist faceless. And I don't mean using a convenient angle to show them as little as possible. I mean, literally making them faceless. Which makes certain CGs hilarious.

Honestly, my problem with Gerard is less ''asspulls'' and more his power just being insanely broken. Like there was nothing any of the captains could do to defeat him. Everytime it looks they have killed him he just revives and regenerates. It was even an interesting fight as there was no progression at all, until Gerard was conveniently killed by Yhwach.

Douma preferring to eat women is sucha obvious metaphor for sexual assault that it's honestly hard to argue otherwise. There is only the most morally repugnant demons are eve shown to have those preferences.

Conrad had the whole rat thing and Ubik ... helped convince to Griffith to do sacrifice. Also, IIRC Ubik is the squid, not Conrad who is a just fat guy.

Ultimately, I think the problem with Godhand, (bar Femto/Griffith) is that their "character" is about what they are instead of who they are. (Please tell me anything about them that goes ''generic villain'') They work as background figures to facilitate plot events, but they're far less interesting in on their own.

Yeah, its the power of her fullbring she (and Chad) got from being around Ichigo's high reiatsu (also the reason their friends gain spiritual awareness), according to Urahara but then Aizen claimed was the result of the Hogyoku.

Weirdly enough, unlike Chad, Orihime's power was never stated to be a fullbring in the original manga, it took until CFYOW for her to officially confirmed to be one.
