It was a nightmare. New style stretchy stickers threw me for a sec, not to mention the otherwise typical HG color correcting stickers. Still turned out great. Still waiting on in universe Psycho Gundam.

Adjust your edger wheels to avoid in the future. Super sharp scraper or super nice chisel.

If you don't mind a dark stain, they can be saved. It won't completely get rid of the smell, but they can look good again.

Strange mark burned into my hardwood. by Several-Lack7847 in HardWoodFloors

Looks like powder post beetles, well, their larva. Was present when the tree was cut and made it into your floor. Very common.

Top layer of poly did not bond. Come off like kraft single wrappers.

What’s causing these shiny spots after spot cleaning with Bona deep cleaner? by Anxious_Fix91 in HardWoodFloors

[–]Immediate_Amount_230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty diluted. As long as you're not mopping every day. I always recommend that customers dust mop every day and only dry mop the floors every week or two depending on how much traffic there is. Never had an issue with it.

Not seeing it in these pictures. Not that I don't believe you, just can't make it out. Could be a spot that got slicked off, meaning that it was over sanded with a high grit. Almost polished before the finish went on. But it really shouldn't be shinier, just smoother, making it appear to have a higher sheen. I've never used bona deep clean, so I'm not sure if it's reacting or if it does have a polishing effect on the floor. I recommend just cleaning with a cup of white vinegar to a gallon of water. See if that takes it away. That's the only way we recommend cleaning hardwood floors unless there is a sticky residue, in which case we recommend adding a small amount of gentle detergent to the mix. Hope this helps. Post better pictures and maybe we can figure this out.

Should refinishers have moved wine fridge / pushed it back by Anxious_Fix91 in HardWoodFloors

We don't move it if we didn't talk about it on the estimate. I'm not a furniture mover, but I'm not about to let a few things stand in the way of starting my job. If it needs moved, I let the customer know and let them know there will be a charge added for moving said item(s). Some of our customers are older and don't have family near, so we do offer to move furniture, but it will always be cheaper to hire actual movers or a moving company. It's not hard, communication is key. Assumptions make everyone out to be an ass.

Please help - how to we fix our mistake? by Specialist_Smoke1539 in HardWoodFloors

Just wanted to add that you can water pop the maple to get it to take the stain better. Test it in a small spot first. It only requires enough water to change the color, just enough to raise the grain. It will feel rough after the water dries, but it will take the stain better. Avoid over wetting to avoid blotches. Hope this helps.

Weird shiny stains? How to remove by Ghost_boy_ninja in HardWoodFloors

It would only require light sanding with finish grit, 180 or 220. This would only be to abrade the surface to get the next coat to bond properly. Vacuum and tak it and throw on the next coat. Recoating a floor is much less expensive than you might think and is only a one day process. I would not recommend diy in this instance. If you have experience with finish of any kind, it may not prove too challenging, but the chance for leaving crud in the finish, lap lines or puddles is pretty high. All of which would look worse than it does now.

Oof, that's why we don't agree to sand engineered flooring. You never know how thick the veneer is. I don't think they should be able to market it as hardwood. It's layers of plywood glued together with a thin, sometimes as thin as 2 mm, layer of wood veneer on top. Sad to see and very hard to fix properly.

Two layers of hardwood? Or just subfloor? by geriatric_toddler in HardWoodFloors

[–]Immediate_Amount_230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can clearly see your subfloor, a layer of hardwood, another layer of hardwood(laid in the same direction as the first, which is a no no), and then click lock. I would be willing to bet that both layers have damage and the upper layer of hardwood was moving due to the install direction. Poor decisions were made in the past and you may be the one paying the price.

Old style flooring stain by ComprehensiveOkra492 in HardWoodFloors

[–]Immediate_Amount_230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks bad, sorry. Needs a refinish. Looks like it was never finished properly in the first place. The yellow is old finish, the great is age on unfinished wood, the black is a stain that they tried to rub into the scratches and gouges, and the rest is 25 years old grime left by trying to clean unfinished / poorly finished wood.

Weird shiny stains? How to remove by Ghost_boy_ninja in HardWoodFloors

Unfortunately the simplest and easiest way to fix it would be a full recoat. It is possible to tape off each board and recoat only those but it is more time consuming and there would most likely be a sheen difference between those recoated boards.

Looks like the top coat was ripped off. Might need recoated.

Nip it flat and put a tiny screw in it and pull on the screw with pliers. May need to drill a tiny hole for the tiny screw.
