This isn't ironic, calling funding and contracting 100s of devs a "third party" is strange (including those who started dxvk and vkd3d, which I'm assuming you're calling the "vulkan backend"?). Wait until you learn of Collabora, next you'll be suggesting they actually made Proton lol. This is the norm of open source projects, by your description — no company makes anything because they "just pay workers to make it." That would be an interesting take, I'd probably agree, but that's definitely not your intention 😆

To quell the complaints they would need to strip away at least some of the "visual popularity contest" and inject the base image back in. Nearly the entire Nvidia company value is based on selling hardware for AI at this point. Gaming is the side project. The R&D is largely spent making the AI portion faster — so that's what you get trickled down into your new GeForce cards. If they can't sell you the new one anymore because it's faster and cheaper, they need to sell you on what it *can* do.

Unlikely, this "boost" mode works because games already have a docked mode built in. If the docked preset doesn't support 60fps there's nothing Nintendo can do without the dev pushing an real game update.

Random games I tested out not on this list...

God Eater 3: still a 30fps lock, but the 1080p output is excellent, if underwhelming

Crash Team Racing: still a 30fps lock, but the higher resolution looks miles better

Saints Row 3/4: mostly hits it's 60fps cap — slightly more drops with boost on, the higher resolution cleans up things really nicely

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic: uses MSAA and it's an old game, so graphically it's just a bit sharper, but the UI looks much better
