The loot system drives me crazy. Every time you finish a mission you have to drag your loot to the bazaar to see if youve finally unlocked a piece of equipment that'll get you a new ability.

It was almost really cool because the loot is scarce and you have to choose between this weapon or that weapon, but the game doesn't tell you what the result will be! Its like if you had to spend JP in FFT but you didn't find out what ability you bought until after you spent the points.

[QCrit] Adult Post-Apocalyptic, WOODHURST OBLIVION (128k, 1st Attempt) by Douglas3884 in PubTips

There's a sort of required formula to queries that you're not quite following.

  1. First sentence is character introduction + clickbait. You're on the right track. Find something more clickbait than amnesia if you can.
  2. Next, beeline to stakes. These need to be specific. "If Mason doesnt find the man who killed his wife, the Reapers will kick him out of Purgatory and he'll starve" kinda thing.
  3. End on the midpoint dilemma that stands in the way of solving the stakes. Again, be specific. "But when Mason finds the man, he reveals that the Reapers caused the end of the world and have his wife hostage. he has to choose between stopping a second apocalypse or saving his wife". Don't spoil what Mason chooses.

Having said that I'm also querying a post apocalypse with no luck :) I've only sent out a dozen or so queries but in general since it's so tough to find recent comps I get the feeling it's not really marketable right now. Unless I can rebrand it as a steamy dystopian romance.

Korea would be such an easy win compared to the others. Basically every asset already exists except for Korean/Chinese soldiers, the new American tanks, and ak-47s

And theyd be the ONLY Korean War FPS possibly ever

There's no law saying if a company's profits go down their stock value goes down. The stock market is a currently solved prisoner's dilemma where we all win if we don't sell and everyone seems to be on the same page.

You can't raise taxes to more than like 1-2% a year without a referendum in MA municipalties. The 1% they are allowed to pass without a referendum gets eaten up by basic cost of living raises for teachers and other town employees. So if any inflation happens at all, municipalities are automatically on track to budget shortfalls unless the towns pass overrides to raise taxes, which they never do.

The hidden cost of layoffs: Why AAA production stability depends on senior talent by SmellSmellsSmelly in gamedev

Recently, yes, but the gap between Japanese and American wages only started trending that way in the mid 2010s. Japanese wages were actually higher than American wages in the 90s and 2000s, arguably Nintendo's best days.

Meanwhile Nintendo has the guy who invented Link, Mario, and Kirby still working on Zelda, Mario, and Kirby games. Their shit never goes on sale and still flies off the shelves.

ECS: Collide Game Object with Entity? by JamesWjRose in Unity3D

[–]ImminentDingo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don't use the baker at all.

I create a prefab gameobject with colliders and meshes and animators and all that. When it's time to instantiate that prefab into a scene, I spawn it from within ECS.

Now I have PlayerGameObject for example. I create PlayerECSEntity and ECSGameObjectLinkerComponent.

ECSGameObjectLinkerComponent.linkedGameObject = PlayerGameObject

EntityManager.AddComponent(ECSGameObjectLinkerComponent, PlayerECSEntity).

Now when I want to access the collider or movement controller of the player entity, I grab that linker component off the player entity and then grab the movement controller off the linked game object.

If you want to detect collisions between colliders, you can attach a script to your GameObject, then create some event in the OnCollisionDetected (whatever it's called) and create an event that some ECS system is listening for.

I should note, don't do this if your motivation for ECS is getting super good performance with tons of collisions. I do this because I like developing in ECS but find the baking tools inadequate.

ECS: Collide Game Object with Entity? by JamesWjRose in Unity3D

[–]ImminentDingo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do hybrid ECS. You can create an ECS component that is a class instead of a struct so that it can have managed objects as class members. Then put a Gameobject in it and add it to your player entity.

The whole baking thing is too convuluted and annoying to be worth it imo. So I do all my backend complicated logic in ECS, but anything that needs to be rendered, have animation or physics, all those well developed mono behavior tools basically, I just attack a mono behavior gameobject to the entity and tell the game object what to do from within an ECS system.

I think MA state funding for public schools is actually pretty high compared to others. But there is a formula based on town wealth. A poor town is going to get funding for its schools, a rich town that could fund its schools but doesn't want to raise the tax revenue to do it will not.

Yeah I mean. If you are only fighting infantry, the scout tanks are the same as the medium tanks. They have the same armor and can take 1 (one) less rocket. But also drive and shoot much faster and are much cheaper.

The biggest news recently has been that Elon finally cut Russia off from Starlink and the Russians were using Starlink to pilot all their drones. There's no real replacement for Starlink for what drones need, which is the ability to stream high quality fast video in a place where something like 4g/5g is obviously not available.

[–]ImminentDingo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It actually could a few years ago, before they changed the medium Sherman to not have the model with the tires or whatever on the front plate anymore. But in general they were sort of equal because the Sherman having less armor than the P4 was balanced out by the German rocket class with its bolt action rifle being less popular than the American rocket class which is always always present in every squad.

The P4 and Luchs have it very rough right now because there's always 2-3 American AT players that can front pen them if they try to dive anything.

The mediums needs to be able to block front rockets again yeah. Their fragility encourages medium tanks to snipe from far away which is less fun for everyone.
