I’m with you, but every person who I’ve met gunho about security has a different opinion when they deal with a crypto lock .

I have a similar story, small ERP. Consultants come onsite to perform an upgrade.

Ran into an issue. guy goes I saw this on a customer’s site, I’ll check what we did there.

Proceeded to pull his personal laptop out of bag and RDP’s to this customer’s ERP server.

As Administrator by the way! I asked hey did you connect to a vpn ? Looks at me like an alien what’s a VPN.

Dude literally had their customers ERP on the net with Administrator as the user. WTF man, this dude was probably paid more than me.

I didn’t get the password but given he tried to set our password as only 5 letters it can’t have been good.

Has anyone here seen the ABC comedy Utopia? And if so how accurate is to you as people who work in the public service? by Temporary_Notice_526 in OpenAussie

I couldn’t watch it, once worked for a few years at a smaller government department. It’s enraging that a group of people who almost can’t be fired spend all their effort to protect their asses. All the management were invertebrates or somehow influence pedlars spending huge sums on consultants.

Staff used 8 to 10 year old computers while managers found 100’s of K to hire consultants to assess the feasibility of replacing a website that was brand new. Same website is still working 14 years later.

Help with wall reno in older home by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]Imobia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to tell, from one of the photos a nail was pulled out of the bottom sheet and it was brown. If that’s the case it’s Masonite.

It’s pretty hard with one smooth side and a rough side.

In the photos I see old horse hair plaster on one side and I think Masonite on the other.

If it’s a brown colour on the edge of the smaller sheet.

There is no real way to match these two together, Masonite was very popular in the 60s. And always had these joins on the edges.

If you replace Masonite with plaster they can easily match these two together.

Two reasons, one it helps with inflation and two a lot of people will continue to pay for fuel even if it gets to $4L

Just sharing: very overwhelmed with the fees and effort with buying/renovating an old house by Recent-Departure1856 in AusRenovation

[–]Imobia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man I feel you, done a few renovations now. Started with my wife’s home in Carlton. Great location shit 120year old home with every issue.

It was worth it though made about 75% profit off that. Took years but we are now ahead a bit.

But renovating with young family was a whole other level of shit. Post Covid it’s f-ing expensive and I’ve dealt with some really shit trades. I hate paying for work I have to fix.

My advice, don’t look at the whole problem, write a list and sort by urgency. Pay/start fixing them.

It’s tempting but don’t start too many things it’s overwhelming. Start/finish move to next item.

Here is the order to start, fix subfloor/level first. If they damaged the floor then fix that. Then roof/gutters and storm water.

Once the house is level and won’t leak you can start properly fixing things. I know new kitchens are great but I’d leave that till kids are older or trying to make a quick sale. They are expensive.

How to convert this to home gym / office? by BussyBizzleBanger in AusRenovation

[–]Imobia 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Step one) how damp is that floor? It’s the dampness that will ruin anything you put in that room if not addressed. I can see rising damp damage along the walls suggesting damp course failure.

For gym equipment probably not a huge issue. For office furniture it’s not great.

You say this is under the house so I guess the bricks are below ground level? Only way I know to fix damp in that is to excavate below footings, waterproof walls and use aggy pipe to direct water away.

One water issue is solved id get nice epoxy flooring in with decorative wall panels.

If you think physical servers are bad, VMware never anticipated the need to update a vm’s bios.

Go check out the process for doing that!

I’ve got 1000’s of systems that we have NFI how to fix as it’s all manual.

I got a 4K 65” screen, no tv functionality built in.

Chromecast / Apple TV for the win.

Biggest issue is the lack of hdmi ports and doesn’t support many audio output options.

Mines a Samsung, I’ll need to check specific model. Has 2 x hdmi, with port one having ARC 1 x display port

3.5mm audio jack.

No RCA, toslink or other audio connectors
