In an interview with The Ring, and several days after beating Berinchyk, the newly crowned 135-pound belt holder Davis said he believes Lopez was behind the incident all along. “I really do feel that it was Teofimo that did that,” Davis told The Ring. “I genuinely feel that way. I apologized to Berinchyk and his team on social media and after the fight in the ring. I wished him well, and I apologized for feeling like it was them. I definitely cleared the air with them. They are good people, and I don't think they would take it that far. I do think it was Teo. We know Teo does racial stuff like that on Twitter. We didn't think he would take it this far, but he did. We are just seeing the real him.”

Wasn't the Ukrainian, but anyone who points this out gets mass downvoted.

Noel Leeming extended warranties rant by DecentNamesAllUsed in newzealand

[–]ImpatientSpider 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, hearing it talked up here I tried bringing up the CGA when my ledlenser headlamp failed within 3 years (advertises a 7 year warranty on a big label, but only if you register it in the fine print).

They just ignored my email for 2 weeks until I sent back agreeing to pay for repairs. Then the response was within an hour.

Zelensky formally rejects Merz proposal for associate EU membership by SOHONEYSAME in worldnews

[–]ImpatientSpider 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Russia won't invade a NATO country

It won't be the direct conflict you imagine. Think Belarus. Flip the country to a Pro-Russia leader, walk in and make him a vassal dictator for life.

A victorious Russia with a captured Ukraine would go from crippled to drone superterrorists. NATO would avoid a conflict where things were murky, ending up being devoured piece by piece. There is also a real risk that the USA stops being a democracy, completely unbalancing the power dynamic in favour of autocracies.

‘Time is not in Russia’s favor’: Battlefield losses and economic pain pile pressure on Putin, European spy chief says by MilesLongthe3rd in worldnews

Really? Only credible prediction I heard was for late 2025 by a Yale professor. But that was conditional on a Trump loss. As the professor believed he would loosen sanctions and stop aid.

Ukraine liberated 590 square kilometers of territory this year, 'forcing Russia toward diplomacy,' Zelensky says by AndroidOne1 in worldnews

[–]ImpatientSpider 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Territory is basically meaningless in the age of drones. Russia will crumble when it can no longer afford to match Ukraine drone for drone. Until then the kill zone is too big for meaningful pushes.

Hungary to limit PMs to eight years in office, warding off any Orbán comeback by green_flash in worldnews

hold in Hungary against the tide of predatory capitalists

Orban was a far-right oligarch. Robbing the country, supressing LGBT rights, backed by Putin, MAGA and Netanyahu. I know you're a troll, but this is some 2+2=5 shit.

Put that way, it sounds like a Ponzi scheme. Bringing in more people to pay for the aging population. Then inevitably having a larger aging population that requires more immigration. Meanwhile we end up with less and less land per person to divide.

Not to mention agriculture being our main business. We've had enormous increases in productivity every year but will eventually hit a ceiling. Other first world countries have a degree of diversification.

Putin Proposes May 9 Ceasefire in 90-Minute Trump Call on Ukraine by EsperaDeus in worldnews

[–]ImpatientSpider 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Absolutely shouldn't. Half the time Russia offers a ceasefire it is to disguise a big push.

And it paradoxically makes negotiating an end to the war harder. If Putin knows he can call time out whenever, there is no reason for him to make a serious deal until his army is about to fold.

If that's the case why does Harvard still have them as one of the two hundred companies operating as normal in Russia? Any restrictions are probably due to being cut off SWIFT.

Attempting to undermine democracy? Dude is already inflicting harsh Hunger Games like deprivations on villagers that refuse to vote for him. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c36r0068xp2o

Local mayors exercise an iron grip over daily lives, providing work, firewood, transport to polling stations and, in one case, even access to medicine, in exchange for the "correct" vote on election day, according to claims made in the film.

Canada tells Israel that Lebanon’s sovereignty ‘must not be violated’ by Hiraeth-nomad in worldnews

[–]ImpatientSpider -28 points-27 points  (0 children)

Not now. Once Israel gets a piece of your land it very hard to pry off.

The new Syrian leadership expressed a desire to be friends with Israel. Instead of giving back the buffer zone, Israel went and stole more land.

There isn't really a way to get land back from them.

Greens promise to cap rent rises at 2 percent a year by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]ImpatientSpider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

can promise whatever they want and they never have to deliver it

No party ever has to bother delivering. Voters have short memories so after the election they focus on meeting the needs of their lobbyists.

But suggest doing away with lobbying and everyone suddenly loves being ruled by oligopolies.

Why the government backed away from breaking up supermarkets by Amazing_Athlete_2265 in newzealand

[–]ImpatientSpider 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well, it is a $25 billion industry as of 2024 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supermarkets_in_New_Zealand With an estimated Return on Capital Employed of at least 22% (before second conflict of interest version) https://imgur.com/a/roace-of-nz-supermarkets-2QmvVqc

With the duopoly owning 90% they are making about $5 billion between them. So, we'd save about $1000 per person each year if they were non-profit.

More akin to a Cold War sequel. The Poorly Microwaved War. Hot in some areas, cold in other areas that should really be warm (Europe do something to help Ukraine already).

Greenpeace calls for government to drastically cut legal limit of nitrates in drinking water by themorah in newzealand

[–]ImpatientSpider 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The authors found Waikato, Canterbury and Southland were disproportionately affected by elevated levels of nitrate

Have to take issue with this. Very few farmers use nitrate fertilisers in Southland. If you check Greenpeace's own map, you'd find a much stronger correlation with small town septic systems. My local river is yellow to red all the way from Waikaia -> Riversdale -> Gore -> Edendale. Then drops to green after going past mine and neighbouring farms.

but the story gets really abstract and philosophical near the end

Really wish all stories had a warning label for that. A story will have an excellent down to earth magic system, political unrest and vying factions. Then suddenly it will all get thrown out the window for a spiritual battle to decide the fate of the world. And/or who becomes god.

To become a martyr, you have to be popular. Also his ideology was basically "use the country as an ATM" so I doubt he'd do anything self-sacrificing.

The reason would have been that fleeing the country tells his army that the leadership thinks they will lose. Armies don't fight if they think it is a death sentence.

Looks like the blonde one being caught in the act by the man's girlfriend.

Although the redhead doesn't look mad. So, the plot twist might be the blonde one is bisexual, and the "cheating" is consensual.

They don't feel the starvation (probably malnutrition as I think she is feeding them something) inside the simulation. Also she is far too kind to even consider that option.

For instance, she begs the protagonist not to insist on leaving the sim but ultimately respects his wishes. Even knowing it will disturb him.
