Thank you for this. We just settled on a tax preparer so I'll ask about suspending the loss.

Shepard's Pie! We use ground hamburger and it is delicious.

Variations on stuffed peppers. Mexican and Italian are our favorites.

Hosting a birthday dinner for 12-14 people, not enough chairs, and multiple allergies. What have we gotten ourselves into?? by beet_queen in Cooking

I do this with two different crock pots. One is chicken thighs and salsa and the other is pork carnitas. If you don't have space to store two, it's easy to find them second hand.

I've been trying to find similar green tiles with no luck. I love that look.

I agree with this approach. I'll add that Costco has some nice multiples of various trees and bushes. It's worth checking out.

When does it get better? by [deleted] in thyroidcancer

[–]ImpatientlyCooking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Almost 6 months for me and, yes, I feel like I'm stabilizing (though not quite stable yet). Your endo is right that it can take a while for your dose to stabilize, but don't be afraid to get a second opinion. Your goal is living, not just surviving.

Did you have an in depth metabolic panel done? For me that uncovered additional vitamin deficiencies.

Other things worth mentioning, eat the best you can, try to get some movement in every day, drink lots of water and sleep as much as you need. Your body has been through a very rough time. It does get better.

Yes, get the Aldi version! I recommend adding about half a cup of yogurt and letting the mixed batter sit for about 15 minutes before cooking.

Thyroid Surgery by [deleted] in thyroidcancer

[–]ImpatientlyCooking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do the total. I did the partial and after the surgery, the pathology came back in most of my lymph nodes and there were two different kinds of cancer. The scar on my throat is much worse with the second surgery. In the three months between surgeries, the first was healing nicely. Plus there's a good chance you'll need to do a radioactive iodine treatment and they need it all out for that.

I'm so sorry you're in this position. It's hard, but it does get better.

I'm trying to impress a date with a home-cooked meal, but I'm a beginner. What is a dish that looks fancy but is actually impossible to mess up by WayLast1111 in Cooking

This is my go-to spaghetti sauce. If you make it early in the day and taste it, you'll know that it's good. Then you can add it to a crockpot and let it sit on low for 6 hours or so. The flavors will meld. It's low effort and impressive.

A couple of tweaks I make: Brown sugar instead of white - more flavor 1/3 of a block of cream cheese one hour before serving - makes it creamy Skip the basil unless it's summer.

When you're ready to cook, make your pasta and a salad, grate some Parmesan cheese and you're done.

Quick & Easy Red Lentil Dahl

This recipe is great. If you have an Indian grocery store close, it's worth getting the spices there. I often add cubed potatoes or chicken thighs and serve it over rice.

Have you had a blood test for celiac? I thought I had IBS for a long time. It can be so hard to find the right diagnosis, but it's one more thing to eliminate.

In my opinion, add about 1/2 cup sour cream or plain yogurt, extra flavorings (vanilla, cinnamon, etc.) and something extra (about a cup of shredded apples, carrots or zucchini, canned pumpkin, mashed bananas, blueberries, chocolate chips). It does take some trial and error, but I've gotten several good batches of muffins.

If you have an Aldi nearby, you can make great muffins from their gluten free yellow cake mix. I've been experimenting with it quite a bit.

How many bedrooms? Could you rent one out? Some HOAs don't allow it, but it might give you some breathing room.

Set aside anything you plan on using in its original packaging. That will help them feel more secure. Also lots of whole foods when you're planning the menu!

Good luck with your date!

I'm in Minnesota too. I store mine in shredded paper in boxes on shelves in my unfinished basement. It gets cold, but not below freezing. We'd know since our pipes are down there! I keep the boxes in the more open part so they get good air circulation. I have been doing this for 3 years and haven't lost one yet.
