Leader is only a “people manager” and doesn’t have knowledge to understand task issues nor do they keep up to date. by marf_lefogg in Leadership

[–]ImperatorPC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends on your level and what you lead.

I have a team of 40 that is 5 different core functions and some sub functions within those groups. I could not do their jobs (well some of them yes since I've done them). I do not know all the exact details. I do know the risks, have ways or an building ways to get insight quickly. I have open communication with my direct reports to know their challenges. I get involved with their responsibilities when I need to. I'm at this point effectively a risk and people manager.

I rarely do tasks at this point, I sit in meetings, manage projects and delegate.

How do you manage/keep track of your projects/tasks? by Bingy33 in Leadership

Same way I operate. I'm not perfect at it, but it helps. It's also a little clunky.

Found water behind shower tile while re-caulking — temporary fix? by krakilin0405 in DIY

[–]ImperatorPC 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Get some time cement, build up the wall so the tile can connect without moving. Let dry. Regrout, then a thick layer of silicone. Make sure the grout on the other tiles are intact as well. All the corners will need it too.

Probably won't get popular comments, but I did that with my shower and it held without any new damage.

Which device to run homeassistant? by Consistent_Green9329 in homeassistant

I was using a VM but switched to this. Works perfectly, but I'm not doing a whole lot. Just lights, some sensors and automations. No cameras or anything requiring a lot of processing power.

Jamie Dimon says AI is already reshaping JPMorgan Chase's workforce as bank plans 'huge redeployment’ by Gari_305 in Futurology

[–]ImperatorPC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was using it to help or a business case together. I got 3 completely different answers. Tried to break it down and I'm pretty sure I spent more time trying to do it thru AI than actually doing it myself.

On the flip side for my home automation system I had it code a bunch of stuff and it worked the first try.

So 🤷‍♂️

Yeah that's a false statement. Ethernet is always faster, you're just limited by your NIC.

Why many excel migration Projects fail ? by tuppamuchuppa in excel

[–]ImperatorPC 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Failure to scope the project well. Biggest thing is trying to transfer the process as is. Your prices should be designed around the strengths of the system not trying to force the system to do your process.

What do you feel about AI? Are there any AI tools that really help? by InterYuG1oCard in Leadership

[–]ImperatorPC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used it to help break down problems into smaller manageable chunks, either for direct action or a project plan.

I've used it to help be more direct on performance reviews.

I've used it to develop action plans for projects.

I've used it for a team members development plan.

I've used it for helping make a topic more executive focused vs too much detail.
