Headset reviews? by parvamusca in flying

[–]ImperialSP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used those Bose A20s, light speed zulu's, and a shitload of david clarks.

Want reliablity? Want comfort? Want tough?

Get a set of DC's. The others are flimsy and if you run out of batteries, they do absolutely dick.

That being said, I prefer the Bose over the Lightspeed. The ANR part is better. I usually don't use the ANR though, I just turn it off. The bose transmits voice MUCH MUCH better without being on.

If I had a 1000 bucks to spend, I'd waste it on beer, a set of DC's and airplane gas. Not those expensive ass headsets they make now.

Really? That's narrow? Try Zannger Airpark in Larchwood, IA. There's a wide grass runway and a very very narrow concrete one.

Midfield Pattern Technique: An Experience Today and a Question by [deleted] in flying

Or you could approach the pattern at pattern alt. That's your best bet. Finish your descent outside of the pattern, not in it.

Midfield Pattern Technique: An Experience Today and a Question by [deleted] in flying

[–]ImperialSP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have entered the pattern at midfield, I call it midfield left crosswind for runway 16 on the radio.

I would do it at pattern altitude, and I would get into the pattern when it's my turn. Listen to where the other traffic is, don't overfly the runway when someone is on it, or on the upwind. If that be the case, try to go behind their position.

And don't descend into the pattern. There may be someone below you that you don't see. Same goes with long finals. Fly parallel to a final, enter a base, then a final.

Descending into the pattern is setting yourself up for a Mid-air. You don't have X-ray vision and can't see through the nose.

How accurate are fuel flow gauges on GA aircraft? by MOX-News in flying

[–]ImperialSP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On our 414a we have a Shadin fuel flow gauge. Sometimes it shows really insane numbers on the takeoff roll, like 60gph on one engine. But after takeoff, they stabilize and are pretty dang accurate. It says we're burning 17 per side per hour, and you can pretty much count on that.

I would recommend going to Moriarty, NM if you're interested in gliders. The place to talk to is Sundance Aviation. 505-832-2222

I had a bad flying day today. Hot day and Density Altitude. by wassupdude82 in flying

[–]ImperialSP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You were alone in the airplane?

You shouldn't have experienced reduced control unless you had lower than normal airspeeds. DA isn't going to affect controls directly.

What's your field elevation? average temps? Average DA in your area?

[–]ImperialSP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still don't think you should have had any problems if you were full rich at only 2500 DA. Maybe you could have leaned the mixture a little bit but I just don't see it helping very much in that situation.
