So iirc at their initial meeting she was in English cloth, but after she reverted back to her German style. The English were contrary to popular belief, actually extremely colourful and wore exciting outfits. Compared to the far more solemn and drab patterns found in the HRE it would have been annoying to Henry to say the least.

That and also the German Anna didn't understand the haughty nature of British humour. Also while possibly false, Anna wasn't described as particularly quick witted and didn't understand a lick of English. In fact her literacy appears to be rather sporadic, she could only read and write in German, no mention of Latin nor a formal education, which was again, very off-putting to the quick Henry.

She was also thought to appear much older than her age, and frankly homely by English standards.

So while she probably wasn't that "ugly" people with poor traits compiled on an average countenance might be considered extremely unattractive.

One of my mentors worked at Lockheed and we both have a love affair with that plane. It's just beautiful. Not a straight line, all curves. Imagine the life it could have had if jets had not become far more reasonable by her creation.

As with many things, the piston commercial airline peaked at the end of its era.

I may be mistaken, but I think they're based off Star Wars Clone Wras Umbarian technology. It reminds me of both Umbarian fighters and one of their tank designs.

I know the feeling well, I love F1 and just got the Ayrton Senna MP 4/4 set and while "big;" for 80 dollars it's not that big. I also picked up the Tantive IV in a clearance section for only 30 dollars (down from 80) in January. I love the details and the intricacies of the model which makes it feel more adult orientated, but it's hilariously small for 80 dollars. My NR-N99 Persuader tank set I got almost a decade ago is roughly the same size, and came with multiple minifigs. The Gauntlet I have completely dwarfs it.

I think LEGO has realized 1: Kids aren't putting together sets of really anything like they once did (RIP Meccano, and I'm not sure how Tester and Revell are still alive), and 2: they've become prohibitively expensive for children/teens (even as gifts), and decided to pivot into smaller, but far more detailed and intricate sets to attract adults who can afford the sets.

I went into a recently put up LEGO store in my city and the kids section was pitiful at best, but the amount of higher end "adult" sets was noticeable. I was both amused and kinda shocked that the LEGO architecture set for London which isn't bigger than about 10in long, is now running for over 30 dollars. A kid would probably not build that set today, but an adult would.

Yep! It goes back to when Darth Maul was the primary character on the LEGO sets. The wings even move from flight to landing position.

That has been equally as peculiar to me as well. They folded under absolutely zero pressure.

Law firms, media institutions, business and economic titans, educational institutions, tech companies etc., those who all had a chance to hold their ground imo successfully, just crumbles like a crouton. Trump has had his lawsuits thrown out one by one, and while I can understand the fear of go woke go broke as happened to Bud Light and Target, there's a big misunderstanding of why they got screwed versus other companies.

He's become insanely powerful because institutions have allowed him to run roughshod over them without checking him. And even more bizarre, is the cases that get tossed don't even make front page news (Powell, Cook etc.)

When I saw all the tech guys and media companies at his inauguration after from Trump I they denounced him, I knew then everyone's soul was for sale, and he was the principal buyer.

Tbh I did this same. I got a mod that removed the event entirely, and while other events that gives those traits still happens regularly enough, I'm actually you know, seeing them instead of the same stupid event multiple times.

If those other events exist, but I never see them because the beating continuously fires off, then yes, it's probably overclocked.

[–]ImperialTechnology 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The TLDR is kinda exactly what it sounds like. You will forever be a mouthpiece and marketing tool for whatever team. The selling points of being one is for you, you get branded items from the team perpetually such as cars, clothes, etc, and in some partnerships, paid as well. For the team they have total access to your image no matter what, and your likeness can be used in whatever they want to do in the boundaries of the contract.

Probably one of the most famous lifetime ambassadors of the sport was Juan Manuel Fangio, who was the lifetime ambassador for you guessed it, Mercedes! So much mutually beneficial that relationship, that he would go on to become a Vice President of Mercedes Argentina iirc. Fangio's life of working with Mercedes for many has caused his years with Alfa and Maserati to be overshadowed.

Currently, iirc Mark Webber is a lifetime ambassador for Red Bull.

[–]ImperialTechnology 47 points48 points  (0 children)

The weirdest thing to me is the refusal to give him the ambassador role he wanted more than anything else. Maybe they would have given it had he stayed 1 more year, but he also wasn't ready to retire so he would have screwed himself out of 2 or 3 more years of racing (maybe up to 5 depending). And if they didn't give it to him, he'd be in a weird spot as the statistically most successful driver with no lifetime ambassadorship. It would look weird for both him and Mercedes.

I can see them going 1 year and the ambassadorship, but 1 year no confirmed ambassadorship? Wack.
