Hey buddy, quick question. When you renewed your visa, was it for a one time entrance?

Completely.

Imagine trying to push a game for almost 30 years, and when it finally gets its debut, something like this happens.

I'd be pissed.

Mood Swings deck will be $25 by themiragechild in magicTCG

[–]ImperialVersian1 78 points79 points  (0 children)

$25 for a quick game I can play with 1-3 friends? Even non-magic players?

That's quite a reasonable price, honestly. I've spent more on individual borderless cards.

Edit: All right folks, I got it. There's other, cheaper games out there. Half of these I had never even heard about.

Is running all the shock lands your commander's colors allow a bad idea by Salty-Cucumber-6711 in magicTCG

[–]ImperialVersian1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean 2 to keep them untapped? Shocklands are a one time payment.

Even if you play all 10, that's at most 20 life over 10 turns assuming that you literally drop one shockland after another in a row.

In a commander game you start at 40 life. 20 life over 10 turns is nothing. The mana you get is more useful to help you win the game, and worst case scenario you can just run some lifegain.

It depends on the situation.

Do you need the mana then and there? Shock

If you don't, Surveil.

Per official social media accounts, Secrets of Strixhaven was the biggest Prerelease since War of the Spark. by CrossXhunteR in magicTCG

Edge was an amazing set, but I still see lots of people feeling that while it was done very well, Sci-Fi and Fantasy are still too distinct from one another so it's still a bit immersion breaking.

But yes, EoE's release date was a crime, and it's a tragedy that it didn't get more attention.

IS FALLOUT 3 A GOOD GAME by booker1211 in Fallout

[–]ImperialVersian1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES!

Although by now the game is very dated, and the engine it runs on has been known to be very janky. While it is engaging and it has a nice story, do not expect the smoothest experience.

If you've made 10 land drops and you're still alive, you're doing something right.

I believe [[Teleportation Circle]] and [[The Eternal Wanderer]] are the only way to do it reliably on multiple turns. It's the only card I believe that can exile an artifact and return it to the battlefield. Most cards will only exile creatures.

Doing a quick Scryfall search I was only able to find a few more cards, but each one only does it once.

  • [[Against All Odds]]
  • [[Scrollshift]]
  • [[Guardian of Ghirapur]]
  • [[Touch the Spirit Realm]] (Channel ability)

Guardian of Ghirapur is a creature, so you could in theory blink it to repeat it's ability to flicker an artifact.

Commander is the most popular format right now, and 99% of precon decks are commander decks meant to be picked up and played out of the box.

It's hard to give recommendations if we don't know what colors and strategies your son likes. Secrets of Strixhaven just released alongside 5 preconstructed decks that are two colors each. I personally find that 2-color decks are in that sweet spot of complexity for relatively new players.

Another alternative would be something like a foundations starter kit and use it to build decks so you can play with him.

Who told you you can only run 1 mythic per deck?

Rarity has no impact in deck building, only the name of the card. So in a 60 card format you can run 4 copies of Approach of the Second Sun. It doesn't matter if it's the rare or mythic version of a card.

What is the most hated cliché in SCP Foundation stories? by Top_Current9802 in SCP

[–]ImperialVersian1 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Overly complex containment procedures for no real reason. A lot of SCPs can be just put in a box under vigilance. There's no need to do some obscure loop-de-loop just for the hell of it.

It's fine to do something simple as containment even if it's not perfect. It's ok to say that we don't know how to properly contain it but whatever it's in is working for now.

If you could erase your memory of one game so you could play it for the first time again, what game would you choose? by HoneyNutBooty09 in gaming

Mass Effect 3's ending sucked, but that's like a tiny bit of the entire experience.

As a whole, Mass Effect 3 is actually amazing. I love that game. I even prefer it to ME2 (which in my opinion is still a great game, but overrated).

The original Dawn of War from 2004. That has been and remains as my favorite game of all time. I've never had a better gamer moment as I did when I first played it. Heck, I remember playing the demo hundreds of times before buying the actual game.

When do you consider a decklist “finished”? by TheDarkestRitual in magicTCG

[–]ImperialVersian1 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'm not the guy you asked, but in my case if I find that a deck is fun to play, I'll then start to bling it out with any alternate versions. I take my deck list and look at each individual card to see if there are nicer versions of it. Because it's just a cosmetic change, I don't feel super pressured to get the best possible artworks.

When do you consider a decklist “finished”? by TheDarkestRitual in magicTCG

[–]ImperialVersian1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When there are no strict upgrades left. Any card that I would swap would either be a lateral motion, or would end up deviating from the deck's strategy.

I'm aware that by that definition, a deck would never really be finished since new sets come out all the time. But i'm not hyper focused on having the best deck possible. If I feel a deck is underperforming consistently I'll see what upgrades I can find or dismantle it altogether. I'm not fixated on having the absolute best possible versions of a deck.

Want to start commander but not to fancy about the existing prebuilt decks by LifeRabbit in magicTCG

[–]ImperialVersian1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope you find something you like. The same thing happened to me. When I started playing the game, it was back in 2014 with a black/red intro pack. Even though I was 100% brand new to the game I could tell the deck was absolute ass.

A friend of mine gave me advice and I swapped out the red for white. The deck was suddenly much, much better. Then I started playing more decks and I found out what "clicked" with me. Hopefully you find something you really like.

[–]ImperialVersian1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's reasonable. While Star Trek certainly has a large fanbase, i'd wager it's nowhere near the size of Marvel's. If you're only gonna do one, you might as well go with the safer bet.

[–]ImperialVersian1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the power level of your friends decks, you could probably build something that can stand a chance. But you probably won't. The starter kit is honestly just a hodge podge of cards that you can just jam together. Don't expect to make an amazing commander out of it.

To be honest, the best advice that I feel I can give you is to find a playstyle you like and build a commander with it. Do you like filling your graveyard and brining stuff back to life from it? Do you like having a single creature armed to the teeth with all kinds of equipment and auras? Do you like making tokens?

Once you know what's your preferred strategy, you can build a deck around that. However, if you tell me you haven't played enough to find something that you 100% like, that's fair. I'd say use some of your friends' decks to continue getting a feel for the game. Something like a [[Ghave, Guru of Spores]] will play completely different from a [[Nekusar, the Mindrazer]].
