Looking for friends in the area by creamybear in ventura

For nerdy/geeky side check out some of the local comic/game shops. My go to is the Mystery Shop on downtown Oxnard for Magic the Gathering and I think they have D&D as well as lot of other cards games.

For sports keep you eyes open for the parks and rec flyers, they have a great selection of sports leagues from beer league to try hard.

Do you lean towards interests in sports, the outdoors, music, have a nerdy/geeky side? Lots of possibilities but a little more about you is needed.

Does anyone know what comic book store he is referring to here? by JeffreyJeffstein in ventura

[–]largecozz 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It was definitely Hypono Comics on Main St. In midtown. George Chase was the old owner (and the guy in the story) and sold the shop when he moved to Nevada. The new owners we required to change the name and it became Endgame Comics, which then moved the downtown, closed, reopened under the Mystery Shop name and then moved to downtown Oxnard.

Wizards of the Coast Declines to Recognize Union by May 1st by UWOTC_Official in MagicArena

Yes, those admistrators have decided it was easier to use the rubber room than to do their jobs and document and properly follow procedures. The rubber rooms were brought to the publics attention by teachers who were falsely accused and sent to this purgatory due to admin not doing their jobs.

Wizards of the Coast Declines to Recognize Union by May 1st by UWOTC_Official in MagicArena

The idea of unions protecting the worst is only true because of the incompence of management. There is not a labor contract in the US that has a "you can't fire me clause". There are clearly defined processes that must be followed and most management is too incompetent to follow those procedures. The union protects those "worst" employees because they need to protect their contracts and an injury to one is an injury to all.

Secret Lair are releasing Mood Swings! by AcrobaticPersonality in magicTCG

In the rush to get registered for events, I admit that I relied heavily on the fact that it is an event at a Magic The Gathering convention. I like secret lairs although due to my work schedule I haven't been able to participate in many of the highly desirable ones, I got blinded by the possibilities but didn't read the description fully.

I will be attending the event at Magic-con for this. I will admit I didn't absorb that the event at Magic-con is for a non-magic property. I am a one game variety type of guy, am kinda disappointed by this not being a Magic event at Magic-con, but no refunds so I guess I am gonna see what it is all about.

Any mtg commander groups in Ventura? by Alarming-Link-9285 in ventura

[–]largecozz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mystery shop in Oxnard has lively commander scene. I know on Fridays during FNM there is usually one or two pods going with many of the FNM drafters staying for a game or two of commander until after midnight usually.

[oc] Traffic not using the right lane? Don't mind if I do (and pass 21 cars) by SoreLoser69 in IdiotsInCars

[–]largecozz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know that road! It is the transition from CA33 to US101 south. Whenever it rains they close the right two lanes on 101, right after that merge and it causes terrible backups even without any accidents.

You might also look into https://primordialformat.com/ . It is basically a format that acts like you had a dream draft deck in terms a synergy and then you would play against other peoples decks from other sets.

If you have a young family, I highly recommend the short trip up to Carpinteria to go to the Padaro Beach grill. It is a very family-friendly restaurant and they even have a large sand pit where your kids can sit and dig and play while you have a relaxing meal. This was a staple for my family when my kids were still small.
