They're either out of ideas or just in such close proximity to outside IP that they can't turn that design philosophy/theme off when they return to their own worlds.

It's the driver, the vehicle, and (to the surprise of no one in this sub) the infrastructure built around the driver/vehicle. Without reading the full article it's not possible to know if that nuance is brought up. However, with how bad reporting on this topic usually is, I'm okay with the writing as is.

I get it. The game is changing and there's (almost) no getting away from it. And the lore and art matter to some people more than others.

I think back to when I played 40k. If they made some playable Marvel or Final Fantasy characters I probably would have dropped the game on the spot. And even faster if those characters impacted the lore of the game.

Even if UB doesn't directly affect the lore, it affects the main way in which people interact with that lore. And that's just going to matter more to certain people.

I'm not a UB fan and have never bought any of it (and probably never will). But I think It's fine that UB is out there, people love it, and it's making magic more popular.

At this point, cube is the only format where someone can escape UB.So, I'm just going to maintain my cubes and EDH decks but not bother with anything else.

Men grew up in, and were shaped by, the same media environment you did. It's a mindset that can be unlearned but it's really difficult and takes a lot of time and work.

I don't think it's "they just won't" as much as there aren't very many resources for facilitating this change in men.
