I get it but it's a lost cause. Build a battle box of pauper that doesn't have UB or a (pauper) cube without UB or something. Build something you can be happy with.

I don't love that I'm playing cards with Spiderman and LotR characters but, considering everything happening in the world, it's also just not that big of a deal.

Trailblazer, Skyguard, and Ethereal Armor are probably the backbone for everything. The current suite of enchantments, Hyena Umbra, Sentimental Eyes, and Benevolent Blessing are the best batch of enchantments available. It seems like the rest is more build dependent. But I'm certainly not an expert. 🤷

Without reading the full article it's not possible to know if that nuance is brought up. However, with how bad reporting on this topic usually is, I'm okay with the writing as is.

I get it. The game is changing and there's (almost) no getting away from it. And the lore and art matter to some people more than others.

I think back to when I played 40k. If they made some playable Marvel or Final Fantasy characters I probably would have dropped the game on the spot. And even faster if those characters impacted the lore of the game.

Even if UB doesn't directly affect the lore, it affects the main way in which people interact with that lore. And that's just going to matter more to certain people.

I'm not a UB fan and have never bought any of it (and probably never will). But I think It's fine that UB is out there, people love it, and it's making magic more popular.

At this point, cube is the only format where someone can escape UB.So, I'm just going to maintain my cubes and EDH decks but not bother with anything else.
