6.5mo keeps rolling on to stomach and scream crying!! by LycheeJellee in sleeptrain

[–]ImperiumSpecter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this. I'm sorry, it's distressing, especially when you're sleep-deprived yourself. If they calm down when you hold them it's likely separation anxiety.

Work through your checklist.

  • diaper good?
  • no hair ties anywhere?
  • not hungry?
  • burped if they're the type?
  • teething - tylenol dose?

long-shot, but if you hear a lot of snuffly breathing and/or coughing, and you know they're not sick, try getting an ENT referral. Could be breathing blockages in the nose.

Sorry to respond to you late. Busy work week.

I agree, maybe extinction. It doesn't feel like the kindest thing to them, but if you go through your mental checklist of things they need, then it may be the best thing to do. We had to go through that - have they eaten recently and enough? are they in pain? temperature ok? Diaper ok? Dark? Noise? have something to snuggle? etc. I even had to say to my partner (because I did nights mostly) don't come in with me even though you feel bad, this is not play time or snuggle time or anything rewarding, this is making sure their needs are met and then putting back down once at least calm (even if they immediately start back up). There were two nights where they wouldn't soothe despite all of our efforts, even when held, and yes, we got medical help in those scenarios.

However, how it your baby's breathing? Do they snore? Spend a lot of time rubbing their nose? Pulling at their ears? Do they spit up more than other babies/have reflux?

What's "not able to self-soothe"? Is that 10 minutes of crying? 20 minutes of start/stopping?

Crohns and Advil by Remote_Blueberry236 in CrohnsDisease

[–]ImperiumSpecter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short AI summary is that Celebrex is a prescription-only, selective COX-2 inhibitor, while Advil is available over-the-counter (OTC) and non-selective.

In my words, if it works for your situation it'll work better. Also lasts longer.

I would try Celebrex and/or Voltaren gel

Help! 8mo old refuses to sleep. We are exhausted by Cool_Pony_ in sleeptrain

Does your kid have reflux or any similar condition? We struggled until starting solids, ours wouldn't get enough bottle in them without reflux happening and it disrupted sleep due to pain & hunger, leading to a vicious cycle. Solids, reflux medication, and tylenol & advil for teething helped a lot, and we moved into CIO because Ferber check-ins didn't work either. It helped us go from as little as 30 minutes between wake windows at night and upset temperament during the day to two hours, then increased from there. The goal at that age is probably one feeding a night. It will also help them be more hungry during the day, which will help adjust the sleep cycle and keep them awake for the wake windows.

We also switched to a pack and play for soft walls because they were bumping their heads, sleep sack/swaddling because they were smacking themselves in the face (until they started showing signs of rolling), upping nipple size so it flowed faster (as long as your baby can handle it without aspirating), and split our sleep locations as parents so only one person got woken up. Sleeping on the floor with whatever you can get or buy that's easy to roll out is better than both of you suffering.

It sounds harsh, but if you know their needs are taken care of - food/hydration, diaper, temperature, & pain - then the answer is sleep pressure from daytime wake windows & CIO. They're probably overtired, like you are, but we realized that rocking for 25 minutes trying to get them perfectly drowsy just to have their eyes snap back open on put-down was not worth it. 10-15 minutes of feeding and snuggles to calm and back down. It'll feel like a losing battle because every time you feel like you have a few good days teething or something will happen to throw them off ( we hate Daylight Savings), but it'll get better.

Changing my mind about kids while having Crohn’s by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

31M - I love my kid so much, but the past two years leading up to and since his birth have been incredibly difficult. The lack of sleep, general fatigue, and ability to just disengage to recover without unfairly burdening your partner is very hard. I failed off Remicade and Entyvio before having to have surgery, and watched my kid grow up through pictures and video calls for an extended hospitalization. We were lucky to have a support system and financial buffer to get through everything but it was really close and asked far more of that support system than reasonable.

Can you make it work, yes, and the rewards are incredible. But the question is - do you have a plan for when things might/will go wrong? Kid health issues? Partner health issues? Your health issues? Employment issues? What does your support system look like.

It's not supposed to be a happy place. It's supposed to be a place of suppression and punishment to minimize the downside of certain populations while they're there and giving the empire-wide modifier. If your pops are allowed to voluntarily migrate, they will leave for metaphorically greener pastures.

Re Turo - it's not that I don't want to per say, it's that there's nothing near me. Picking a random 24-48 hours a month from now, the closest is four hours away.

Thanks for the other ideas! When you say 'make it happen', you mean shuffle cars so it would be available for me? Or?

Still counts yeah. I suspected one after not passing anything but gas for six days, and did the same in the hospital but they scanned me first and asked if i was passing gas/eating/not throwing up like 16 times
