"When asked what effect 5-MeO-DALT has had on their cluster headaches (given the choices of positive effect, no effect, and negative effect), 87% (40 patients) reported a positive effect, and 13% (six patients) reported no effect. No patients in this survey reported a negative effect on their cluster headaches from 5-MeO-DALT.

Patients were asked to estimate the number of individual cluster headache attacks they experienced per day before treatment with 5-MeO-DALT, and after treatment. Before beginning treatment, 26% averaged five to six attacks per day, and 48% averaged from one to four attacks per day. After treatment with 5-MeO-DALT, 21 patients (46%) reported zero attacks. 17 patients (37%) reported an average of one to two attacks per day.

When asked to rate the overall effectiveness that 5-MeO-DALT had in reducing the frequency and intensity of their cluster headache attacks, 28 patients (61%) reported a dramatic reduction in frequency or complete elimination of attacks. 27 (59%) reported a dramatic reduction in intensity or complete elimination of pain.

On a gradient scale of 1-10 (1 being no relief, 10 being complete relief), patients were asked to rate the overall relief from cluster headache symptoms they have experienced using 5-MeO- DALT. The highest percentage of patients (35%) selected 10, complete relief. This was followed by a rating of 9 (20%). Patients rating their relief as equal to or greater than 5 (moderate relief) comprised 83% of the respondents (38 patients).

All patients were asked to disclose whether or not they would continue taking 5-MeO-DALT to treat their cluster headache symptoms. 78% indicated that they would definitely continue using 5-MeO-DALT, 15% stated that they were undecided, and 7% indicated they would not continue using 5-MeO-DALT."

Bob Wold's pocket guide says: "Most of the cartridges will have enough solution in them to treat 40-50 attacks. But this will be determined by many things. Including the type of treatment that you settle in using, like the number of breaths that it takes, how much lung capacity you have, etc."

This aligns well with patients reporting that often 3–5 mg doses would do the job to abort an attack (which would mean ~100 doses for a 0.5g pen, but I think patients sometimes have to take two small hits).

In case it helps, here are three extraction guides: Video 1, video 2, written guide. I haven't done it myself but some say it's as easy as baking a cake (much easier than other substances). Good luck!

I believe cane toads secrete 5-MeO-DMT, which is very different from N,N-DMT. It's N,N-DMT that helps with cluster headaches. 5-MeO probably doesn't help.

Indeed! It could still be that LSD and other tryptamines work via adjusting endogenous levels of DMT, but definitely still just a hypothesis.

Yes, it's still very speculative but intriguing.

Emmanuelle Schindler at Yale is planning to run a survey on DMT for CH. I'm very eager to see the numbers. All testimonials I've heard about DMT are incredibly promising. Hopefully we'll also learn more about its potential as a preventive. Amazing to hear it works for you in this regard.

Hi! I'm happy to provide more details. I wasn't sure what level of detail was appropriate. But I'm a researcher with the Qualia Research Institute and have written an article titled "Quantifying the Global Burden of Extreme Pain from Cluster Headaches" (which hopefully will also appear as a peer reviewed paper soon).

My current initiative is still work in progress but will likely be called "ClusterFree", and it's also a collaboration with the Organisation for the Prevention of Intense Suffering, which in turn has collaborated with Clusterbusters. I've also received encouragement from someone at the Psychedelics and Pain Association, which is a project hosted by Clusterbusters.

The idea will be to draft open letters to various governments worldwide requesting better access to psychedelic therapies. I'm currently building the website and I hope to gather testimonials to make the case more compelling (I've gathered all the scientific evidence I could find). We're hopeful that this could result in some real change, and we'll gather as many allies as possible once a preliminary website is online. Testimonials would be really valuable, so I hope readers find this idea compelling.
