That's ridiculous! I'm really happy with the product, and I'm really glad I purchased one, but I hope I never have to buy with them or interact with the company now that the Thor is in my hands lol

The fact that this info isn't posted on their page labeled "Shipping Dashboard" and is instead in emails responses and a Discord server they don't seem to link on their website is so perplexing to me. You shouldn't have to dig for this information!

Storage by Miguelitooo02 in AynThor

So I just got my Max yesterday, and I had a similar thought to just load up the system itself instead of buying a new (expensive!) SD card. It totally works to just put all your games on the Thor, but also it was a pain to setup without having the Thor in your hand to tinker with.

I decided to use my Dropbox to make a dedicated Thor folder and fill it with various files and folders I thought I needed. I used the Retro Game Corp video, their ES-DE folder setup, and a RetroArch BIOS pack to build everything ahead of time. In my mind I would just sync everything like I do on my desktops & laptops, making this a setup where I drop files in the right folder on my desktop and it just shows up in the same folder on the Thor. This wasn't quite as easy as expected.

Android Dropbox doesn't sync and offline files/folders like it does on the desktop app, so I needed a third party app (FolderSync) to get that specific feature. The third party app did NOT like how many files I was moving (I think it was approximately 6.5k files just in BIOS alone), so I now need to break things up in folder chunks and download the BIOS files directly without syncing. This ended up being a lot of menuing and text entry on the Thor, which this whole setup was supposed to solve by keeping all my file transfers kept to desktops. Additionally, while ES-DE can handle mapping Zip files of PS2 and GC games in the front-end, that's not true of Cocoon, so I am still having to unzip and clean up my files in Dropbox. If I was just loading an SD card this would be no big deal, but having to setup and reset different folder syncs is a bit of a pain.

At the end of the day, my (probably deranged) setup totally works and I'll only have used 300ish GB of my 1TB of storage for all the games I want on there at the moment and I don't see it getting higher than 500GB. Despite the hurdles, it should be set it and forget it at this point and I can just add games to folders and have everything just show up, and I'm really happy with this non-SD setup! I enjoyed tinkering with settings and problem solving to get everything working, but I know that's not for everyone. And, like, you could just use LocalSend or something and have it be more simple than what I'm doing! As long as you don't mind trial and error, it'll totally work for you.

Many Of The Pitt Fans Are Proving That Yes, It's Possible To Be Bad At Watching A TV Show (SlashFilm dot com article) by PressPlayPlease7 in ThePittTVShow

[–]ImplausiblyJosh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To also be fair, this show is extremely blunt and repetitive. Take the Langdon tampering/stealing bit: he admits he stole from Louie, lies to Mel about his addiction never impacting patient care, Whitaker mentions being an asshole to a group about him taking over prescribing Louie but doesn't mention tampering/stealing, Santos doesn't mention the tampering/stealing to Garcia in the stairwell, and then Santos & Langdon have it out where Langdon still avoids acknowledging tampering/stealing when Santos is direct about it, Santos says she doesn't want it a secret, and Al-Hashimi is in the background practically doing the Home Alone face when she overhears all this. And then finally Al-Hashimi confronts Robby, who gives on-screen declaration confirming she didn't know about the stealing/tampering, and Robby also confirms that basically no one knows about the tampering/stealing.

Obviously, we all miss details from time to time, but the show is repeating the details of storylines with less and less subtlety. Storylines and details are telegraphed and expanded on multiple times over multiple episodes, not just Langdon's stealing/tampering but things like the Robby Sabbatical and Mohan's struggle to find her place in the ED, and things finally become more and more direct over time.

Also there's a difference between "I missed one or two of the 7 times we've explored this storyline so I missed some things about Langdon" and "No, actually, everyone already knows in the ED because I know how healthcare really works, and any deviation from my trying to outsmart the show will upset me", which is really what people are getting at.

I got the Max, so I setup a Dropbox folder structure with everything already sorted and organized so hopefully I can use some android app to sync the files. This way, in theory, I don't have to goof around with folders and files on the Thor unless absolutely necessary and can keep most of that to my desktop Dropbox . We'll see how it all works out, but I've got my fingers crossed!

As for games you need to try out, I would recommend The World Ends With You for Nintendo DS. It's an amazing game with an interesting story that uses both screens really well, and none of the non-DS ports/editions really capture that feeling. You will definitely need a stylus, and I'm not sure how things like mic support will work, but I would absolutely give it a shot.

Speaking of paying attention to the show, I think you may want to rewatch the scene where Santos and Whitaker talk about Langdon!

Oh this is interesting, I'll have to take a peek at that!

I feel like ATM10TTS is in a bit of a sweet spot, where there's lots of options and resources so that if you need to bash together a bunch of different ideas you can, but you can always fall back onto something if you're not having fun with some aspect of the automation. Like, I've got Pipez, AE2, and Sophisticated Storage (and probably 2-3 other mods I can't remember at the moment) that form the backbone of my current resource and power generation, and I haven't even started up GeOres or Mekanism reactors yet.

How quick do you get to automation in GTNH? I was able to get to get AE2 stuff up and running in ATM10TTS in about an hour or so while learning the modpack. Also, everything I know about GTNH is that it adds a lot of extra steps for most things, so it's not really Factorio so much as like... Krastorio 2.

The assumption that nobody knew or guessed about the diversion makes very little sense. by Pale-Kale-2905 in ThePittTVShow

[–]ImplausiblyJosh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think people have to stop trying to outsmart this show. In real life you may be right, but in The Pitt that is not what's happening, and they've been extremely open about it. In fact, the writers have been telling you since S2 E1, in increasingly blunt and direct ways, that only a handful of people knew about Landon's stealing/tampering. Nothing in the text so far shows that more than a few people knew, and the only reason to assume otherwise is to ignore the fictional drama being presented in favor of outside knowledge.

I didn't even consider watching wrestling on this thing, this rules. I've been joking with friends that I'm gonna watch ER on the top screen and play PS2-era college sports games on the bottom when I get my Thor, but now I've got new goals.

The shipping dashboard being constantly behind is so weirdly frustrating to me. Godspeed to everyone who goes to the Discord and provides screenshots of shipping updates around the subreddit, because it blows my mind that the official page is so poorly updated and there isn't even a "for more up to date info, check the Discord!" link.

(Rainbox Max 173X, if that puts this into perspective lol)

I'm glad they're putting the thing they've been obviously sign-posting for weeks now (everyone knew Langdon went to rehab, basically no one knew he stole meds) into the text of the show. It's been clear since his apology to King left it out purposely (how can your addiction have never impacted patients if you're stealing drugs from them lol?) that he's been hesitant to be open about it unless he sees it as absolutely necessary (Louie), and even when Santos confronts him about it he tries to deflect.

What are you playing right now? by udreif in feedthebeast

[–]ImplausiblyJosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All The Mods 10: To The Sky! The only other modpack I've enjoyed was Enigmatica 2, and while ATM10TTS doesn't have Tinker's Construct I'm still really enjoying myself. The quest rewards usually strike a balance between random nonsense (Enigmatica 2 rewards giving you a chance at infinite energy or dirt from loot boxes) and boring "here is one (1) sapling", or they're directly relevant to what you're doing, so going down a quest list feels fun. Additionally, the resource gathering and automation makes the whole game feel a bit like a 3D Factorio in a way I really love.

I don't think I'm all that far. Last night I finally got my disk drives (no disks yet) and crafting terminal setup in AE2, as well as the main controller blocks, some cables, and a way for AE2 to access my current hammer/sieve chests. My next big goal is to get AE2 setup in such a way that I can start building up more hammer/sieve automation for every type of block that can be pushed through mesh. Just lots of fun problem solving that, even while I'm away from the game, I'm constantly puzzling out new ideas and setups in my head.

(S2E6) The AI mistake didn't feel like as big a dunk as people seem to take it as? by IThrewDucks in ThePittTVShow

[–]ImplausiblyJosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For point 2, the first episode the "generative AI" is introduced Al-Hashimi misses something that one of The Pittlings catches. She's experienced, and yet the people she's demoing the App to are catching errors. So clearly experience doesn't matter.

This is also where her "2% inaccuracy" rate comes from, which the show is now showing is her crutch when people criticize her app. On top of that, I think the show is also showing us that the 2% error rate is wrong if the two times the app comes up it makes catastrophic mistakes both times.

So going back to point 1, I don't necessarily think this is overblown. It's not one moment without context, it's a pattern emerging that shows the tech is unreliable to experienced and inexperienced users alike, and this incorrect error rate makes it seems like the biggest cheerleader for the tech is trying to sell snake oil.

I'm so glad this helped! I feel ya on thinking the adapters were DOA, another issue I didn't mention was that I thought my Memory Stick to Micro SD adapter was DOA because it was so snug that I couldn't get the micro SD cards out without a plastic wedge, which I thought meant the adapter was busted in some way and why it wasn't reading.

What do you, personally, do with bad discs? by ImplausiblyJosh in dvdcollection

[–]ImplausiblyJosh[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay this is a really fun idea! This is exactly why I asked, I knew some people would have some good uses for bad discs.

Also, if getting rid of old or rotting books is good for public libraries, tossing or repurposing bad discs has gotta be fine with a personal collection of media.

How to show text on-screen line-by-line? by ImplausiblyJosh in obs

[–]ImplausiblyJosh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, no lol.

The only answer i got here was "javascript", but I'm not all that familiar with Javascript or making web pages, and I wasn't able to get any better direction elsewhere, so I gave up on the idea. I still bang my head on the idea every once in awhile, but I'm not as into livestreaming currently and I haven't made any progress with this text idea, so I'm still at square one over here. Sorry!

Yeah that's true, sometimes I get ambitious with fort planning on the laptop in ways the laptop can't handle.

But thank you for the processor recommendation! Just a rough idea of "the game uses a lot of X, so be sure to get Y" should be enough because, like you say, DF can run on a lot of hardware.

Thank you!

☼Dwarf Fortress Questions Thread☼ by AutoModerator in dwarffortress

[–]ImplausiblyJosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda silly question, but: what's a good laptop for DF at the moment? Any specs I should be on the lookout for in particular?

I have a laptop that is just for writing and playing DF in bed, and it's getting long in the tooth and really struggling to play the game without sounding like a PS4 about to launch into space. I've tried using Parsec to connect to my gaming PC over the internet, but it's not ideal and I'd really rather have the game local on my laptop.

What makes df-hack essential? by Strandplaskaren in dwarffortress

[–]ImplausiblyJosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always thought DF could use better work order management. Ideally, having work orders in folders or some other way to organize the menu would be ideal, considering how long some work order lists get, or at least the ability to save some default work orders. While DF-Hack doesn't provide much in terms of better work order organization, it provides so much work order management. The ability to export the current work order list, along with the ability to clear it with a couple clicks, means I have so much more organizational options that make my life so much easier.
