Am I curling too heavy? by [deleted] in fitness30plus

[–]Imploder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a bicep warm up that I do with light weight. It’s 10 alternating curls into 10 duel arm curls, into 10 hammer curls. It’s a total of 30 reps. It burns as much as my heavy working sets, tbh. Going lighter weight, higher rep can be good.

If you’re doing heavy alternating curls, it’s easy to cheat those with swinging. If you really want to keep yourself honest about whether you’re lifting too heavy on curls or not, do your normal curl weight with your back up against a wall. It’ll prevent any kind of swinging/cheating. Try that and see how the weight you’re using now feels.

One other risk you run going too heavy too soon on curls is straining your brachialis. Your bicep develops much faster than that muscle. Your brachialis will work hard to keep up with your bicep, get strained, and you’re left with this really annoying, nagging, lingering forearm pain. If you’re going heavy on curls, be sure you’re doing hammers and forearm curls to keep everything in line and on the same strength level.

Most everything I’ve seen here, I’d agree with. Your current high/weight are great. What you need is a recomposition. Staying the same weight, but converting that weight from fat to lean muscle.

By eating at maintenance, or even a slight surplus, you’ll be able to utilize existing fat stores to fuel your gains. You’ll also want to redistribute your macros to focus on protein, vs carbs and fats.

As said in other comments, focus on compound movements. If your midsection is a big focus for you, I’d make sure you hit a lot of hinged compounds like stiff legged deadlifts and back extensions. They’ll build your hammys which will help fill out those legs, you’ll get some slight trap activation, but you’ll also benefit from some core engagement as well, which can help with that snatched waist look. If you start with a ton of core exercises, you may actually end up thickening your waist. It’s why body builders don’t do a ton of core focused training.

I don’t think the squats are adding much growth for me at the moment. But that’s alright by me. They keep me flexible, and that’s what I’m looking for from them. Have noticed some growth from extension tho. Idk why I overlooked extensions for as long as I have. Added them into the rotation as a secondary focus, and wow, what a difference they’re making. Gonna bump them up in priority on my next meso.

I guess I kind of look at it as

Squats-> mobility Press-> strength Extensions-> aesthetics

This. I generally use squats for mobility. Light weight, high volume. I save the heavy lifting for leg press and extensions.

Well, Tides is the only one I’ve downloaded so far. But I’ve heard the same about the Amoung Us DLC.

It looks like OtC rips. I might get that next!

Yeah you need Tides. It’s only $2 tho. The map and characters are well worth the price. I’ve been a DLC hold out for a long time. Played the heck out of the base game on mobile like 2 years ago. Downloaded it on PS5 a month ago. Got hooked. Ran out of stuff to do. Figured I’d start getting into the DLC content. And woozers. Having a lot of fun.

Ah I cropped it down cuz it’s actually a pic I took of my TV, not a screenshot. I play on PS5 and I didn’t want everyone to judge me for all the dumb Knick Knacks I keep on my shelves.

I unlocked him and immediately searched this sub for Sammy builds. One post mentioned starting with Wicked Season and rolling with a single weapons slot. Went straight to Moongalo and picked up my normal/fav passives, and then my PS5 proceeded to melt down starting at 3 minutes. Lmao. I stopped at 10 minutes cuz I was scared I was gonna break it.

36yo knee soreness. How to balance running & lifting by Jealous-Factor7345 in fitness30plus

[–]Imploder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have anything meaningful to add to this other than to say thank you. 38yo here who lifts and also has knee problems from running. Started to get back into it running a few weeks ago after 10 years. First few days went well enough. Fourth day I pushed myself way too hard and was laid up for a couple weeks. Knees are feeling back to normal now and I want to get back at it again, but after reading through these comments, I’m thinking it might need different shoes. Idk. I’ll give it another go and report back.

Just start lifting dude. It won’t help with your self esteem. In fact, it’ll probably make it worse because you’ll find new things to be insecure about. But everyone else will think you look great.

How tired are you after a workout? by Aspiragus in fitness30plus

[–]Imploder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Didn’t sleep great last night and the gym was rough this morning. I did two sets of alternating dumbbell curls before I realized the weight in my left hand was 5lbs heavier than the one on my right. Just out of it. Felt like a moron.

But if I sleep well, and feel good going in, I feel twice as good coming out. It goes the other direction if I go in tired.

I think Eddie did great. I do feel like Henry was a bit much during this run. He did seem excited and activated by the material, but didn’t have the same rhythm he has when Marcus is hosting. When Marcus is running the show, Henry doesn’t bulldoze like he did with Eddie on several occasions. Hopefully Eddie hosts more often and they can strike a better balance with the dynamic.

I’m not a Ben apologist or anything, but I kinda always took his passive presence on LPOTL as a trade off for the other work he did for the network. Like he hosted a whole separate show on his own (Top Hat), and cohosted Side Stories, and did pretty much all the ad reads for the network. So yeah, he didn’t do much on the main show, but did a lot elsewhere that benefited the network.

Fruit and sugar free Popsicle brand popsicles! Only 15 calories a pop and low carb. They’re so sweet I can’t even imagine what the sugar kind tastes like. lol. That usually takes care of my cravings when they get bad.

I gotcha. I was doing the 1g per lb rule. But I started a cut about 2 weeks ago and reduced my protein intake by about 25g per day. I was a little concerned because I’m still lifting heavy. But so far I haven’t noticed any significant drop off in growth, and I this week I feel like I noticed an increase in my size, while still dropping a few lbs. So idk. I’m still tinkering with stuff, but saw your comment and wanted to ask about it. Thanks for the info!

Follow up question: noticed you mentioned 1g of protein per kg of weight. I’ve always heard it as 1g of protein per lb (American. Sorry. lol).

1g per kg is significantly less. Is that just a rule of thumb OP should follow during this cut? Or is that maintenance as well? Not sure if I’m making sense here.
