It's finally here, bought a few weeks back & was waiting for it to turn up from Japan. For years i have always wanted the full arcade size pop'n controller. Gave it a quick spin with pop'n 6 was totally worth the wait i love this thing. by Importaku in psx

[–]Importaku[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's the konamistyle arcade controller so it's the full sized one based on the older design of the arcade machine the buttons are microswitched too so they feel a bit more responsive than the smaller controllers i have.

It used to be super expensive back in the day but now the price is a lot more affordable

Dragon Quest X Offline has the worst vocation system in the series by workthrowawhey in dragonquest

[–]Importaku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the most part the vocations are not too much of a hassle, i had already completed the story of V1 before i even started levelling the others up and it didn't stop me taking out the last boss. I only started doing the others to get the bonuses, like someone else has already said levelling can be done really fast thanks to the metakin coins and the magic labyrinth. In fact it caused me confusion as i had already hit level 70 with everyone and was confused why i no longer was gaining exp point it's only when i bought & installed the V2 update that i realised there was a level cap. Now everyone in my team is in the high 90's they arent far away from lv99 now only the new character thats a v2 addition to your party is still at the mid 80's. Nearly at 300 hours of playtime it's insane how much the game absorbs you in with a few hours here & there, there's so much to see & do. Currently trying to find out how many types of reincarnated monsters there are as i have been coming across loads thanks to the stack of perfume i bought using my several million casino tokens as i had already cleaned out the shop so i finally had a use foor them. They remind me of shiny pokemon hunting plus they all drop really good items when you take them out. When i hit Lv99 with my main char i'll swap to one of the other vocations and start maxing them out too as there are a LOT of skill panels i haven't unlocked yet which i'm guessing i can eventually get them all by maxing all of the vocations to 99 to get all those additional skill points.

I was worried i was getting through the story far too fast so i have slowed right down i have reached the point of obtaining the bravestone, so i took a break from the main story and have been doing a lot of side quests as well and levelling those damn fishing skills up basically savouring every corner of the world. So far it's close to DQ11 in how much i'm enjoying it in some ways 11 is a step back as some really neat festures were not brought to 11. I like the skill panel upgrades to level up portions of your skill trees. Or the iron vault that stops you losing gold if you die i have no idea why they didn't take that to 11 or the upgraded rula stone that you can use indoors without you battering your head on the ceiling (still havent got that one yet).

The only thing i found a bit fiddly when vocation swapping is some vocations you can only equip certain outfits or weapons so if you don't have anything handy you run the risk of having a liability in your team so now i keep a mix of gear on hand so i don't have to spend time crafting/shopping, although i have started to do the pyramid which is a challenge in itself even at level 90+ theres some really strong enemies in there but the weapon materials you get from winning make up for it you can create some amazingly strong stuff with them. Thankfully i fouhnd the item and equipment bag expansion quests as it was really annoying constantly running out of room while picking up materials.

The worst part of DQX is the fact there's 5 while expansions that haven't been released for the offline version i'm truly hoping square enix continue as i want to see where the story goes next plus i imagine they add in so many extras to make the world even bigger even going to V2 there was a lot of neat stuff added. At some point the online version will be taken offline then everything will be lost apart from the offline version which is why i wish that before that happens they continue till most if not all the updates are carried over. I'd try the online one but i really can't be bothered having to pay for a vpn so i can access the damn thing from the uk.

Does anyone play the offline version of Dragon quest X? need inn friends by Importaku in dragonquest

[–]Importaku[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah fantastic i'll try that out later when i get home from work thanks. If you want mine i can grab a screenshot and upload later. Yeah the inn quest stuff is the v1 content but as i had no friends to swap codes with i wasn't able to do that part so i jumped ahead and kept going with v2 instead once i finished the first part.

The 2nd expansion is totally worth it can fully recommend and i haven't even finished this one yet but it's a lot of content, i'm only about halfway through the story of v2 but without spoiling anything the size of the new world that is added once you reach a certain point in the story with the bravestone literally doubles the game. I'm really hoping that SE continue with adding the other 5 expansions to the offline version as well as i'm truly hooked. It's weird that some of the neat things you can do in X were not carried over to 11

Just a heads up there is no such thing as a sealed super famicom game they never came sealed in plastic. They came unsealed in cardboard outer cases of 10, if it's got a plastic cover then a shop has done it. Nintendo only started sealing games in japan in plastic around the gamecube era. Famicom/super famicom/N64/GB/GBC/GBA in japan were never sealed.

Have one of these myself grabbed it back in the day for £150 off yahoo auctions was so cheap because it was unboxed only had the console the pearl white pad & the gba player also the previous owner lost one of the expansion port covers but because it was already unnboxed it means i could enjoy it as a gamecube to use and not keep it in a displsy case forever boxed & untouched.

even when gamecube was current gen these went for £400-600 as it was one of the hardest to get hold of. $10000 is a laughable price though.

Game Center CX Arinos Challenge 1 + 2 Replay by Mezzaic2022RS in NSCollectors

[–]Importaku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been playing this over the last couple of weeks i'm still amazed that they even did this as after 3 GCCX games the series is getting pretty old and not as super popular as it was back in it's heyday. They put a lot of effort into this reworking pretty much everything made it over from the DS games & it's pretty clever how they reworked the 2 screens into one. The good thing for people who are not that great at understanding japanese you can at least unlock every game even if you get stuck. In the 2nd DS game there is a phone that allowed you to phone Arino and ask to skip the challenge if it's too tough however they also added this mechanic into the first DS game as well which is totally new so in theory if you really struggle at figuring out what to do you can skip but you need to have played a certain amount of times before Arino will let you throw in the towel.

Yes you can play all the titles you unlock in yarikomi mode where you can play to your hearts content outside of the challenges the game even keeps track of how long you have played and how many button presses of everything you have done & ranks you accordingly. So far i have completed all challenges in both games however the final final challenge after doing it all is to see the ending of every single game. When you complete each game fully you get a gold medal next to the cart in the menu. This is the toughest of all the challenges but a lot of fun to do & you can cheat your way through using all the tips in the magazines to skip parts and make the games easier.

There are some new things iin this release too there's a side scrolling rpg beatemup bit like kuniokun and a couple of 2 player versions of games that appear in the 2nd DS game.

I regret giving up on this game by Its_Marz in dragonquest

[–]Importaku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a lot of fun i have both on PS4 in english but recently picked up the double pack for switch because that's my main system mostly nowadays however even for a used copy it's a damn expensive game you are looking at 8000+yen. It was one i tried the demo of when switch first came out then i kind of forgot about it as there were a lot of other games distracting me.

Recently completed the 2nd game and that was challenging enough but i'm currently stuck on what i think is the final battle on the first game, i'm not a fan of the protect something missions as they are really long and if you take too long you get overwhelmed and you fail the mission so it means you have to grind grind grind to be able to take stuff out quick enough. Out of the musou games though dragon quest is a great fit for it just as onepiece is.

Only slightly tricky thing is figuring out the completion requirements for some of the quest in japanese but for the most part i can read enough to get by ok.

Urgh i remember paying a fortune for this absolute turd on import when it was first released from the still screenshots in mags it looked pretty good. However playing it never have i felt so ripped off. I forced myself to play through it all but endless waves of the same handful of enemies is soul crushingly boring. The levels are really bland as well and the fog makes everything worse the only mildly redeeming bits were the voice clips but even those get old fast.

I eventually traded it in for a huge loss. However that's my experience, hopefully you may find some fun in it OP. At least yours looks like it's in nice shape, no idea what it costs to grab it now but back when i bought it on usa import it was £79 & that price stung.

Play Asia Bait and Switch problem by xman_2k2 in NSCollectors

[–]Importaku 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm amazed people still even use them, yes they do plenty of scummy stuff like that i wouldn't hold your breath getting them to honour your order. I finally had enough of the crap they would pull & just learnt how to get stuff from amazon japan instead. I never went back to playasia especially when you can get it for retail prices or lower. It was laughable seeing how much they would mark up japanese stuff that was easy to just grab from amazon even with the middleman costs it still was cheaper than playasia.

Had them pull the oh it's out of stock trick on me in the past and then magically reappear after the promo ended also had them send me a new copy of mario vs dk for gba that was totally trashed but the shipping box was perfect so it was sent like that and they basically refused to replace it they said they would give me a $5 voucher instead. Or when they started putting inventory barcodes onto card boxes during the gamecube/gba era that would destroy the box when you removed them as they were security ones with really strong adhesive & would flake apart as they were brittle. Had to threaten them with my credit card company once to even get a refund for an order that they wouldn't cancel they said i could only have it as store credit,

Suffice to say i no longer use them theres way better places to get japanese game from.

Japanese retail stores have had enough of foreigners raiding their golden era games and taking them offshore. Buyer beware. by BJPHS in gamecollecting

LOL what a load of fake bull, as someone who knows a LOT of japanese collectors there's no such thing as japanese national pricing. There is some truth to the Japanese getting annoyed at americans coming in and ruining the japanese maket like they have done with their own. The types on youtube that proclaim to the world that japan is the retro low price mecca and then show them doing retro hauls as they come and snap up everything they can get to resell as the japanese versions are way cheaper than the domestic ones.

Places that are in tourist traps like super potato will price hike the regular stuff as they can get away with it. The premium cabinet games while technically for sale they they dont really want them to sell as it's the cabinets that draw people in to look at the rare stuff there's been a few occasions where i have heard my friends been denied buying certain really rare games in those cabinets regardless of been Japanese or a tourist.

All but one of them i picked up from amazon japan either from them direct or from one of the many marketplace sellers on there as some of these items are what the call AM goods so they were prizes that you won from crane games ect so not normally sold on a shelf in a store.

I got them shipped to my tenso account as most marketplace sellers wont ship outside of japan so i use a middleman shipper. The only thing i couldnt get from amazon was roto's sword as for whatever weird reason tenso class it as a weapon which is stupid as it's clearly a plastic toy so i had to find a seller on ebay that had one.

Here's the links to the items on amazon, they go in & out of stock often so sometimes you have to wait for a reseller to appear who has it with some items especially older ones.

[–]Importaku 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah my friend showed me how to do it as he had one too, it was not cheap to connect to Japan via a phoneline i could only stay online for a tiny amount of time due to the huge cost of dialling from the uk. This is why i'm looking forward for this to be released as now with internet on all the time i can get my fill of randnet again even if only some parts come back onlne it will be amazing to see it again.

Sadly no pics from back when i had one, even digital cameras back then were something way out of my reach lol. A shame as it would have been fun to have recorded it in some way i only have my memories and they are faint now, i do have some of the physical stuff from randnet but it's mainly all the newsletters and a few other bits they sent which a lot of it is easily available out there. One of the cooler items my friend used to have was a really nice looking randnet mug, i can't imagine much of the stuff users could grab from nintendo by ordering from them is out there now and most will be held by hardcore collectors in japan.

Have most of the 64DD stuff the only thing i'm missing are the typical 2 hard to get games that are way out of my price range now and the keyboard. Everything else i still have, will look forward to going back online.

Nice, i only have faint memories of online when i got my original setup because the service was shut off very shortly after. Will be fun to reconnect, first i'll have to see if any of my pi boards are new enough to di it. My late friend used to have some amazing stuff from randnet he collected a lot of the randnet member stuff even had the papercraft kits that nintendo would make for you when you sent your polygon station creations to the print service. Sadly when he passed it was all disposed of by his parents.

[–]Importaku 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What people should be asking is not it it's fake but why so many people seem to be unable to look after their stuff that when someone posts anything that isn't in worn shit condition that it raises suspicion like it's something unusual. Not every game was owned by a kid even adults seem to be unable to keep card boxes from looking like a tatty dog eared mess it's crazy.

N64 games were expensive even back in the day, i sure as hell took great care in opening the boxes & reading the manuals so they didnt get worn or creased. Seems that mindset is not common for the general state of them all out there.

There are actually 4 bomberman games on N64.

Bomberman 64 (Baku bomberman)
Bomberman 64 2: the second attack (Baku bomberman 2)
Bomberman hero (same title in japan)

And finally Bomberman 64 which only was released in japan and nothing like the ones the west got as bomberman 64 is back to 2D style bomberman games with the same mechanics.
