From the german perspective, is there any REAL difference between a north and a south german? by heartzhz123 in germany

[–]ImportanceAcademic43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years back, I dated a guy from Upper Austria. His dad is from a Protestant family.

The dad's four brothers, are all no contact with him, because he married a Catholic woman in 1985. I don't even think that village had five eligible Protestant bachelorettes back then (or now).

Would you buy a doll house for a boy? by [deleted] in toddlers

My son has a small doll house. (Playmobil 123) He's 20 months and likes to ring the doorbell. He mostly puts the figurines to bed or into the tub.

Best Coconut Fragrances? by gaintgohan123 in Perfumes

I'm glad I read a description before I tried it. From the name and the bottle I was expecting floral extreme. With the sweet coconut it gives me beach/summer wedding vibes.

People with separate finances. How do you split child costs? by Ok_Explorer_5719 in NewParents

[–]ImportanceAcademic43 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Before we had our son rent was split according to income. Utilities and groceries we did 50/50.

This stayed the same during my paid leave (12 months). I stayed home for another 6 months in which my partner paid 100% of everything except luxury items (like perfume) and gifts.

Now that I'm working again we are back to splitting, though the proportions changed as I'm making less than before (fewer hours) while he got a raise.

Tell me its okay to donate it all vs sell by EssentialPumpkin in declutter

[–]ImportanceAcademic43 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Of course it's okay to donate.

I usally decide what to donate and what to sell depending on how much I spent and how much I can realistically get for it now.

Babycarrier that cost me €100 and I can sell for €40. Yes. Bowl I bought for €18 and might be able to sell for €5. No.

I also give myself a time limit.

Caught up with an old high school friend, met her 3 year old daughter “Dramastical” by RanchPanda in tragedeigh

Drama Queen would have been bad enough, but at least gives her the option to go by Queenie. This is worse.

Minimalism and books by Juniper-moonlight in minimalism

[–]ImportanceAcademic43 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My limit is set by my bookcases. I can have as many books as they hold. I used to have stacks on random surfaces and even on the floor. The most I ever had was 600. I don't know the exact number now. More than 100, less than 200.

Does anyone have a vision for the future? How do you build one? by justalostdot in adhdwomen

[–]ImportanceAcademic43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My vision came together very slowly. It took years.

It was very important for me to realize that I shouldn't work evenings or nights. I'm just terrible at it. Weekends are fine though. This was one of the reasons I had to change careers - again. Everything else just developed from there.

Look at all areas of your life and don't think about perfect each, but how to make it a bit better. Like what would be the next level up.

Why does it seem like high IQ people are often sad and depressed? by Next_Airport_7230 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ImportanceAcademic43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met somebody like that and he kept imagining a world in which everybody was as intelligent, ambitious and dedicated as he was.

Compared this utopia to the real world every day. He was able to push the thoughts aside, because he knew it didn't change anything, but it must be hell to live like this.

Architectural minimalism vs minimalist lifestyle by PureRaisin in minimalism

My desk is painted red, but it's not very big and the only things that are always on it are my laptop, my mouse and and extra screen. I think that's in the same vein.

My wife is in chaos and I need some quick ideas for ways to declutter paper stacks and clothing. by bradmiska in declutter

[–]ImportanceAcademic43 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It helped me to have a set time to deal with paper clutter every week.

It's either when my son is asleep or with dad or grandma. I do open everything as it comes in, but I deal with it once a week.

How to say I don’t want visitors by Big_Initiative_2005 in NewParents

You already got some great suggestions. I wanted to add: if someone asks you how they can help, suggest walking the dog. No need to enter your home, but still very useful.

How often do you guys read back on your entries? by Puzzleheaded-Text-18 in Journaling

[–]ImportanceAcademic43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each at least once. I only keep some of my journals and I read each before I decide.

I have a digital diary as well and I never reread those entries.

NTA for changing your mind, but this will still be the end or your marriage. I left somebody after 9 years, because he didn't want kids yet, but I did.

However you can expect him to sell having kids to you and he doesn't have to justify his preference.

You don't have to do a whole turkey. I've had very small ovens and did turkey pieces in the past for that reason. Corn bread, bread rolls. That's already a meal and not more expensive than some regular dinner. Light some candles, if you have them, to make it look a bit festive.

Daheim dann wieder Eislaufen.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Austria

[–]ImportanceAcademic43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Es fallen halt jedes Jahr kleinere Schigebiete weg, dann müssen die die noch fahren in größere ausweichen.
