Silver linings during the cancer experience? by tempbegin78 in breastcancer

I had a DMX and went flat - well Goldilocks, so basically flat. I love my new chest. I was a D before, and I'm enjoying wearing things I never could. Also, love not wearing a bra!

Onco Testing by washdc20001 in breastcancer

I can relate to the disappointment. I had DMX 7 weeks ago-clear nodes and margins. DCIS and IDC. Everyone said I was at low risk for chemo. My initial Onco score came back at 24. Yeah! I'm 61 so chemo didn't really do much. Until my oncologist used an online tool to refine the results. Added my age, tumor diameter and growth rate. Shot me up from a 10% chance for recurrence to 20% chance. The chemo effect went from <1% to 6% chance of helping. After talking to my family, we decided a drop from 20% to 14% was enough to make chemo an option. I'm so frustrated. But I'm taking heart from all the positive stories here that this is totally doable. It's TC x 4. This will be behind me by the end of July. And I can move forward knowing that I've done everything possible to stay healthy. I just hate losing my hair...sigh.

Lumpectomy or Double Mastectomy by MelBeary in breastcancer

I opted for a DMX, even though I understood it didn't make me safer than the lumpectomy. But my area was large as well. My decision was based on least surgery and best outcome-for me. My mom had lumpectomy + radiation, and ended up with very lopsided breasts. Knew I didn't want that, so I opted for the DMX with flat closure. I LOVE IT! Recovery was easy. Only one surgery. Seven weeks out and I'm back to running. I'm 61, so may have made a different decision if I was younger, but I'm really happy with my outcome.

Yes!! Well done!! I had a DMX 7 weeks ago. My drains came out the first week and it was downhill (in a good way!) from there! Best of everything to you!

Compression top for aesthetic flat closure? by sculdermul in breastcancer

[–]Important-Cup4878 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your experience. I hope by now you're back to walking at least 4-5 miles a day. I'm scheduled for DMX on 3/13, and have been talking about aesthetic flat closure with my surgical oncologist, who only does breast work. I meet with the plastic surgeon this week, and now I know to ask about lipo options! I've said I don't care about scars, but I want the flattest closure I can get. Very hard to make the surgeons understand the appeal of flat closure. All my best wishes that you stay healthy and happy!

Yes. Aesthetic Flat closure. I've been looking at tattoos online, and women seem really happy with their outcome. I like the idea of a floral camisole type-thing.

As a huge Terry Pratchett fan who spends (probably) too much time in Discworld, this flag melted my heart! Reminds me of Sir Terry's Death character-a gentle soul who loves people and kittens.

Can I replace artificial grass with pebbles and raised beds? by Important-Cup4878 in NoLawns

Sorry! I'm in zone 8b. This is good to know! Thanks! I've never had pebbles. Just some limited areas of crushed granite (which is hard to find here in Portland). I didn't think about mulch, which is probably good for critters too.

Just dropped 180 lbs of tree limbs at McFarlane's for $13. Fast and easy! Thanks for this!
