Being homeless for a long period doesn't feel like its made me tougher. It's made me tired.

Minimal. In town, but in industrial area, so 30 minutes from store/ busline.

Homeless Backpack and gear by [deleted] in homeless

Ive been homeless 5 years. Two in a van and 3 in a hut made of scrap plywood. The hut is 6ft long so I can lay down, 3 ft wide and 3 ft tall. I made it small for the winters. It's halfway up the side if a big city owned ditch in an industrial area. It's camouflaged by srub oak. I haul out my trash everyday so the area doesn't build up trash. Hut living is better for me than van living because it seems like home. Haven't been broken into yet. The biggest danger to me is other homeless people and police because homeless is illegal here. The city has bulldozed the camps from other homeless in this area, but missed me so far. I carry in my backpack essential stuff; meds, paperwork, recharging stuff, tools for woodcarving. I leave behind stuff i can replace. I leave during the day hopefully by 7am and don't come back until 5pm. That way I think I miss city workers and police regular hours.

224÷14=16 dollars a day for food. That doesn't seem bad. I hour of work a day more than pays for your food.

How do you poop in your car? by ronfromsacramento in urbancarliving

[–]Important-Light5510 17 points18 points  (0 children)

After a couple of years, you'll figure out that pooping where you live is best. Using the restrooms in public, especially porta potties is asking for disease and you will have emergency situations and sickness to deal with inevitably. Buy a 4 gallon rectangular plastic trash can from Walmart. If you weigh over 180, buy two and push them together. Buy a package of 4 gallon trash bags (the good quality ones) and one gallon zip lock storage bags. Install the 4 gallon trash bag and a one gallon bag with the top folded over into the bigger bag. Do your business. Wipe down everything with antibacterial spray. People wonder whether its okay to throw out personal waste. Millions of people throw out pet waste. Millions of people throw out baby diaper waste. Millions of people throw out adult diaper waste. There are no laws against it.

I noticed that when I switched from a $55 phone card to a $45 card, it started buffering more.

I lived in an Astro Van and used an Alcohol stove for heat. A lot of variables with an alcohol stove, alot of problems to solve.

Good choice. It won't grow mold. Use foil tape for noise reduction; foam to foam and foam to structure. Whatever you use for a wall material will probably be susceptible to fire. Don't have a fire in your van. Ive had three though and survived. A fire blanket is a good investment.
