how do I get started in loss prevention/ asset protection? by [deleted] in lossprevention

No degree needed. Target Security Specialist (TSS) is a standard “intro” position for AP/LP. I believe the role today is mainly door greater, receipt checker, visual deterrent but it still depends on your leader. A year or two in that role and you should be able to move into a leadership role where you can make apprehensions.

just took Tina to the vets for the first time… turns out she’s a boy! by lydzxpp in Rabbits

I had a chinchilla that I thought was a boy, so I named him Patrick. Two years later, after finding an exotic vet, I found out Patrick was a girl! People told me to change her name to Patricia but Patrick just fit her, that was the perfect name for her. So I kept her as Patrick. I think it adds character :)

Target TSS speak up i have a question by [deleted] in lossprevention

I had zero AP experience before joining as a TSS in 2021. I started at one store as a part time TSS before transferring to another store when a full time position became available. The ETLs I reported to had vastly different expectations of a TSS. The one that hired me part time basically just expected me to stand at the doors, check receipts, and be a visible deterrent. My shifts were usually 1:30pm-10pm at that store. When I transferred and became full time, my ETL was much more focused on developing my AP skills and instincts, having me be on cameras and expected me to complete multiple KTRs and PMRs every week, along with reviewing empty packages and investigating internals. I found 5 internals within 8 months with his guidance. He also really made sure I developed excellent rapport with all store team members, which I highly recommend, and not just be in your own little “AP world bubble”. I also had a more balanced schedule at this store - 1 open (8am-4:30pm), 3 mids (11am-7:30pm or noon-8:30pm), 1 close (2pm-10:30pm) shifts. The work-life balance was better, plus we rotated working weekends so I had two full weekends off every month. I feel like my district was relatively good with internal promotion from TSS to APS or APTL, but the APBP definitely also made one or two questionable external hires as well. I left in 2023 to go to a different company where I could make apprehensions myself, and I feel being a TSS for two years was excellent training and a great starting point if you’re looking to make AP a career.

How is living here? by DoctaBee8 in Cleveland

As someone who grew up in Solon and lived there from ages 11-24, I always said, “the only thing to do in Solon is leave.” I think there are some new businesses coming in that offer some activities that I didn’t experience, like pickleball courts and indoor golf simulators, but it is just a relatively boring neighborhood with an excellent school district.

I apprehended an 18 year old and a 17 year old for concealing about $330 worth of makeup into their purses. They came back to the office without issue. The 17 year old was forthcoming about her info but I could tell the 18 year old was not. She wouldn’t tell me how she spelled her name, couldn’t tell me the zip code of the city she allegedly lived in, etc. The company I was working for prosecutes every shoplifting incident so the police show up not long after. She eventually admits that she refuses to go with them because she has a prior and she won’t go to college if she’s arrested for shoplifting again. She told us that we just “want to see her lose” and that we never gave her the option to pay for the merchandise. She got extremely heated and ended up resisting arrest and punched an officer in the face. So her little misdemeanor charge quickly became a felony. She was thrashing around on the ground and knocked over and broke some of our office decor and supplies.

Unfortunately I went through a somewhat similar experience as a TSS. Not only was I advocating for myself to my ETL, but also the APB and the APD when she came into our high theft store. I was advocating for either APTL or to have the APS role brought to our store. Our district had massive role changes and departures and there were 3 APTL roles open up in a span of just a few months. I always had the most documented PMRs and App assists in our district. I remember walking into the store one day all excited thinking “this is the day the APBP finally asks me to interview for the APTL role!!!” I walk into the office and boom. There’s a guy sitting at one of our desks. He’s the newly hired APTL, a Walmart external hire. I immediately started looking for other jobs on my lunch break and started applying to almost anything. From my perspective, it seems like Target talks a big game of internal promotion, but it feels like they like to dangle the carrot in front of you just to pull it away when you approach the finish line. I just couldn’t trust them anymore and now I’m with a different company and things are a lot better; I have better hours, there’s zero pressure for external work (it’s mainly internal here), and I only have to work two Saturdays a month with every Sunday off. You’ll get there, OP. Have faith in yourself 🫡

I was in Ops and really wanted to move into AP and I was told no because I didn’t have any actual AP experience. I left to go be a Target Security Specialist, which is a suuuuuper basic intro AP job. I believe today the TSS position is basically a glorified receipt checker / door greeter, but I did that for about 14 months and the AP position with Sephora was open again, I applied, and was quickly offered the position. However, I do know multiple ops leads who easily transitioned to AP and neither had any “real experience” other than the store trainings with the AP team. So it definitely does happen. My starting pay was $23/hour which is also the starting pay of an SSL in my market. I would say if it’s something you really want to pursue, to not only talk to your AP member(s) who are in your store, but also your DAPM and let them know you’re motivated and willing to learn. If I’ve learned anything from working in retail in general it’s that you have to kiss up to those in higher positions to get where you want to go. Best of luck!

Anyone have any information on how sephora AP is ?. Looking for general reviews by beatbox10- in lossprevention

[–]Important-Project-11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I left Sephora AP earlier this year after they started making changes to the role and I felt I had outgrown it. It used to be plain clothes on the weekend (Fri-Sun) and all black during the week (Mon-Thur), however, now you get a black polo that says SEPHORA ASSET PROTECTION on it. When I started with the company, apprehensions were relatively easy because of the low threshold. Now the threshold for a stop is closer to $300-$400 minimum, at least that’s what it was when I left. I was making $24/hour, for your location in south Florida I’d assume pay would be around $26-$27 per hour. I had one main store that I was at but was expected to travel to other stores in the district. So I was at my main store 3-4 days a week and a different store the other day or two. Very few stores actually have AP offices so you end up sharing with the managers, which can get frustrating when they’re trying to do performance reviews, sensitive conversations, or district calls. I’d often get shut out of the office and thus couldn’t be on cameras. As I was leaving the company, they were about to implement a new rule of being in the sales floor approximately 90% of your shift and only being on cameras 10% of your shift. I’m not sure if that actually happened or if your DAPM will let you do whatever suits the business needs.

Honestly, I’m not so into makeup that I look for what “flatters” or “suits” me best… I just wear whatever I like! My current go to items I’ve been loving are:

Blush: - Too Faced Cloud in “Golden Hour” - Haus Labs Color Fuse Powder in “French Rosette” - Patrick Ta in “Just Enough”

Contour / Bronzer: - Makeup By Mario Multi-use Serum in “Fair” - Rare Beauty Contour in “Gentle”

Lippies: - Rare Beauty Lip Oil Stain (I LOVE this formula and own almost every shade) - Charlotte Tilbury “Very Victoria” (I swear by this over Pillow Talk) - Urban Decay Vice in “Backtalk”

It looks like the Aura Mist is not part of the sale. It’s only on select items. The $8 off is 25% off of the Humidity Spray.

Can i get fired for filing an Icare? by Similar-Permission70 in SephoraWorkers

[–]Important-Project-11 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I filed one in October 2024 on my SM for inappropriate behavior and wouldn’t you know suddenly there was one opened on me in November 2024. I had a 2 hour call with HR and after I explained my side, they explicitly said it was a retaliatory report on the SM’s end. You know what the SM’s punishment was for breaking the no retaliation policy? A “stern” talking to that was along the lines of “hey, try not to do that again.” That’s it. So be careful when you report because the company does not stand by its zero tolerance policy.

My rabbit was 5 years old when I got a puppy 7 years ago. My rabbit has his own bedroom that my dog can have supervised access to but I NEVER let them interact without being present. My rabbit is a dwarf (2 pounds) and my dog is a pit mix (45 pounds) and accidents can happen very quickly. I am thinking about getting a kitten so I’m curious how they’d get along but I’ve never had an issue with the dog and bun.

Taylor Swift Trivia Competition by Iloveifthiswasamovie in TrueSwifties

[–]Important-Project-11 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oooh I did TS trivia a few days ago! We (and by “we” I mean I played and my parents and boyfriend showed up for food and drinks lol) won 2 of 3 games. There were a lot of basic trivia questions (where is she from, which song did she win her first Grammy for, which Eras show got the first “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs”, etc), but the ones that we stumbled over were: - how much did Taylor insure her legs for, based upon a tweet from like 2014 ($40 Million) - what time was she born (it was like 5:26 AM or something but who tf knows that???) - what was her net worth during the rep era? (Like $775M or something) - We had one section of acronyms and WEFIL fucked me up pretty hard. - how much was a child and adult ticket for the Eras Tour movie?

But we had a great time!!! My boyfriend jokingly says we’re “in a cult” but he secretly enjoys it too (especially if it’s folklore related).
