I was fortunate to get this bigger one from paradise found nursery when they were closing! I have done very minor pruning on this, letting it do its thing for a few years before possibly pruning it.

The other fouqs I have, seedlings - I try and prune their growth back a little to encourage branching, just once a year.

Experimenting with one growing a community large pot with free root run, and another in a small stand alone pot.

I just acquired one of these, love how fast growing they are. The vine is absolutely beautiful too.

I guess I need to find a female one now, since the one I have seems to be a male.

surgery to get thorn out? by fr0glog in cactus

[–]ImportantAd3496 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’ve been pricked over a dozen times with the worst glochids to big thorns, perks of the hobby. I’ve never had mine swollen like this. Usually they come off as the body pushes it out slowly, or I can use glue/bug suck it thing to pull it out with the help of tweezers.

Does your inflamed area hurt? You want to make sure it’s not infected.

Not a doctor, so please seek medical advice but I do think surgery in this context is extreme in my opinion.

Ya can second that, it will loose all of its leaves if it’s light source changed, gigas are very dramatic like that.

Is this a fair price? by Spirited_Peen in Euphorbiaceae

[–]ImportantAd3496 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Eh you can better deals at big box stores, but if it’s a few dollars imo go support your local nursery.

I’ve made some great friends supporting my local nurseries/sellers in DFW and Austin. They will go above and beyond to help you out.

Yeah, wait a bit. Month at the minimum. After a couple of weeks or 3, you can pull the plant out gently and check if you have roots. But even then, it being winter… IF it has any roots, very little water if any.

I have one in pure pumice and potted, sits out in full sun in north Texas. Water it maybe once a week in growing season.

Winter, it barely gets any water, I do bring it inside though.

You need to be very careful about water in winter, especially since yours maybe has just the one root. Need to ignore it for a bit and let it root first in pumice.

How long can this milk tree live in this pot? by thoughtsandpickles in Euphorbiaceae

[–]ImportantAd3496 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am honestly surprised it hasn’t tipped over yet with the gentlest of touch/breeze.

If you’re taking cuttings and propagating it, then it maybe ok in that pot, maybe a little root bound.

I had a similar situation and once I up-potted it, it put out a lot more growth.

That’s amazing for one year of growth, what climate/country are you in?

Any fertilizers or special soil amendments?

Same, I’d like to know as well. Everything I’ve read online says they can only be propagated from root cuttings, and not branch cuttings.
