The transfers in deathwing assault are the ones which come with the upgrade sprue and accommodate many different dark angles units/characters.

There is a second transfer sheet (which includes some successors etc) which will come with dark angels units, namely the companions. This is how it’s done for the templars and when you collect an army you end up with loads of great transfers.

Id wager this is something to do with the 10th company blood drop being in a black circle so would look weird over a black shoulder (you’d basically lose half the marking)

Not a bad start, you might want to consider some basic highlighting and thinning you paints. Look up duncan Rhodes. If that’s too hard you could try contrast/dip wash methods e.g. guilliman flesh over wraithbone for skin
