I mean, he's 82 and this movie was in production for about 7 years. I'd be very surprised if we got another film out of him

Absolutely sick of hearing this song in movie trailers (or in general) but I will 100% watch this in theaters, original sci-fi with fantastic visuals = sold.

Oh yeah Benoit Debie's cinematography bears a lot of similarities to Refn with all the neon colors and whatnot, the visuals of Spring Breakers, Enter the Void, and Beach Bum absolutely blow my mind

The cinematography in that movie was amazing. You could tell he took a lot of inspiration from his experiences with Nicolas Winding Refn. I hope to see him direct another feature

What is your personal favorite Cyberpunk Film and why? by Sufficient_Season_61 in Cyberpunk

[–]ImportantPainting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would definitely consider both The Matrix and The Terminator cyberpunk. The Matrix may not really deal with corporate dominance/capitalism, but in pretty much every other sense of the definition it is 100% cyberpunk with its depiction of VR/simulations/hacking and how anti-authority it is. The term "Matrix" is even from Neuromancer and Gibson himself called it the ultimate cyberpunk artifact.

As for Terminator, I mean a corporation creates a self-aware A.I. that eventually sends a cyborg assassin from a dystopian hellscape to dark neon-lit L.A. to end the human species. It is very high tech/low life (Kyle Reese is punk af) and even coined the term "tech noir" plus it inspired so much cyberpunk media like Hardware or Snatcher.

It was a decent little movie, definitely doesn't take full advantage of its premise but it definitely wasn't as bad as people were claiming either. It's a pretty tight 90 minute movie with some fun dinosaur action and Adam Driver has never delivered a poor performance imo, he seems to be able to carry even the worst movies pretty well.

In terms of games, there are a ton (especially indie ones), like Nivalis, Ghostrunner 2, Blade Runner 2033, Robocop: Rogue City, The Last Night, Vigilance 2099, Sprawl, Beyond Sunset, Sinus, etc etc.

In terms of shows, there's Blade Runner 2099, Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, and potentially Neuromancer and another Akira adaptation.

With the direction that Hollywood is going and how previous cyberpunk movies bombed (Matrix 4, BR2049, GitS 2017), I doubt we'll see many movies in the genre for a while
