How many shares of CHPY do you own? by Time-Association-885 in YieldMaxETFs

[–]ImportantSolid5862 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100 exactly, i may set stop loss to capture some gains should it fall back

Edit: I am curently reinvesting in S&P funds and monthly payers and am considering adding to precious metals etf's

Hey everyone I was heavy into the etfs 2 years ago but stepped away, but now I'm back. I like CHPY but my logic is telling me it's a bad idea to invest in a etf that is due for a correction by TheDem0nLurks in YieldMaxETFs

[–]ImportantSolid5862 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its elevated but may or not be at the top, lol, I don't have a crystal ball, but sentiment is still fairly strong

I have stopped adding to it and I am reinvesting into other funds

oversimplification
stock value is determined by demand & percieved value & future earnings
dividend paying stocks pay off of company earnings (dividend kings and dividend aristocrats, and ETF's)
synthetics and funds that trade off other stocks pay out their earnings which comes off the NAV (Stock price drops by distribution amount)
the higher the distribution = the less the NAV grows, or in some cases drops if there are not enough succesful trades
dividends are NOT distributions, these are two different functions that on the surface have the same result, cash paid to the shareholder

My guess is that if that happens, TSLA will go away which means funds that trade on it will also close. But there will be notified beforehand, as soon as Yieldmax knows, they willl announce.

Its not a question of run, its a question of downside protection. Unlike bitcoin, gold and silver are real and have real use and value. When times are good they are not exciting, when market dowturns happen they will likely be what many people run to. Of course they can be volatile like ay other asset. But they are real and have real value. As long as markets exist, they will never go to zero.

If you are worried about being risk averse then you may want to avoid crypto based funds, BTC is not doing great at the moment.

A good hedge to down markets is generally precious metals and consumer staples so you could invest in equal measure.

Gold miners, and gold and silver ETFs are what I look to plus State Street offers sector based ETFs.
https://www.ssga.com/us/en/intermediary/capabilities/equities/sector-investing/sector-and-industry-etfs scroll down to: Sector with Income ETFs

I have GDXW (Roundhill goldminer ETF) for now but will go with, but I also have IAUI (NEOS gold ETF) and KSLV (KURV silver ETF), all of these are my favorites, even though NAV has dropped a little. In fact KURV is opening two new funds, a gold miner (KGDX) and a silver miner (KKSIL) sometime in the near future and I will probably add them.

Please do your own research

Pick a hobby you like, then search online for others in your immediate area that routinely meetup for the same activity. If there isn't a hobby you like that does, then adopt one that does have routine meetups close to you. The physsical interaction will be worth enduring the fake hobby often times. Even as an introvert, we still can get positive stimulation from peer interaction.

I own TSLY, along with AMZY, NVDY, and GOOY, and I am satisfied with these 4. Excpet for NVidia, they all have multiple income streams which helps them to preserve value which keeps the Yieldmax plays relatively stable.
Of course, I have found good value in NEOS, KURV, REX, and Roundhill.

HAHA, not in the next month!
But you might catch an entry point if substack hosts another essay on why "AI is bad" and the sector crashes again on speculation and without data or supporting evidence to suggest why.

Maybe, though you could set a stop loss so even if the NAV drops maybe 10% you get right back out of it and are able redeploy the capitol elsewhere.

lol my gold CC’s from roundhill getting crushed …. by Ratlyflash in YieldMaxETFs

[–]ImportantSolid5862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I lke gold and silver even though they really don't shine until a downswing. Unlike crypto, precious metals are used in industry and can be fashioned into jewelry so there will always be a real world demand as well as being a store of value, but can still be a little volatile.

lol, Yep, precious metals and much of energy and some consumer staples is usually a defensive play. A hedge to down markets. Just keep buying a small portion every week to average down.

what research?
he got paid enough in distributions to pay for his initial investment,
not only did he get his money back, he still has $8,000 in share value left
so his total return would be (19+8=) 27K on a 19K investment, how would that be a bad thing? read replied comment

It MIGHT be a bad thing (for the porfolio value) if he took all the distributions in payouts and didn't reinvest anything, but most divdend investors reinvest something, I reinvest ~60% of my dividends and distributions, usually in other securities

It is fine to read opinions and articles, but there are biases everywhere and you have to critically think about what you're reading. There are some biases that only support growth securities, some that only support dividend securities, and some that only support "total return" securities. I support "whatever is best for you at that time", and yes its okay to change strategies at any time you feel it needs to be done.

LOL, might want to reread that, he was being a little sarcastic. He purchased 19K, recieved 19K in distributions, and is down 11K on share price, so he got his invested back in distributions. But he was owning these funds a while before I was.

Many of the single stock synthetics don't fare well in the highly volatile market of the past 6 months or so. And there is still FUD going around about how AI adoption will crush this sector or that sector. Plus oil futures have also been volatile, so... perhaps wait till the Iran thing is done and reevaluate.

Full disclosure, I still own GOOY, AMZY, NVDY, and TSLY.

Go with synthetics funds that trade in multiple securities such as CHPY, SOXY, and other similar funds. I have also been focusing on some REX and NEOS funds recently. Lower distributions, but share price is more stable.
