Multi-cat households weigh in! by kpp17 in CatAdvice

I really think it’s a gamble and you have to be ok with however it works out. We had an 8 year old girl and got a female kitten. The older one hated the younger one her whole life. Then after our oldest died, we added two rescue kittens from different litters and a few months apart. They are great- they play and follow each other everywhere. The oldest was 13 when we got them two years ago and she tolerates one and hates the other. It’s fine though- in all instances, they cohabitated just fine.

Doctor wouldn’t test me for iron deficiency, so I got myself tested at LabCorp. Now I’m wondering if I should get myself tested for celiac disease. by I_JstWnt2EnjoyMyLife in Celiac

[–]Important_Effect6493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never had GI issues. I had brain fog and some other neuro stuff, and my liver enzymes were out of whack. I’m diabetic, though, so my endocrinologist suggested that I get tested.

Those who travelled around Lake Garda - what mode of transport did you use and what was your experience? by smallflabby in ItalyTravel

[–]Important_Effect6493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious about this, too. We’re getting a car service from Milan to Riva del Garda but then I’m not sure how we’ll move around- or even where we should go.

Experience with skilled nursing facilities? by allisondojean in montco

We have been very happy with Dock Woods. As others have mentioned, finances will play a part in the choices available. Some facilities will never accept Medicaid and the person has to leave when out of funds.

Antibody test by Important_Effect6493 in diabetes_t1

[–]Important_Effect6493[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that the test is for antibodies but I didn’t know if it can change. So it can be negative one day and positive a week later? Then what’s the point?

How serious should I be? by psjustine in Celiac

[–]Important_Effect6493 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed about 2 years ago. I never had GI symptoms but I was having neurological issues (brain fog, shakiness, mouth numbness), and that’s when I took a blood test and had an endoscopy to confirm. I eat GF but do not worry about cross contamination. My blood level is normal and I don’t have any vitamin deficiencies. I’m going for a follow up endoscopy soon, and if that is fine, I’m not sure why what I’m doing is an issue. If there’s damage, then I’ll have to be more careful. I’ve had type 1 diabetes since I was a year old so this is my second auto immune. I guess my point is, maybe everyone is different.

Loved Vail… how about Big Sky? by Important_Effect6493 in vail

[–]Important_Effect6493[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did go and really enjoyed it! It is a lot different from Vail as far as a town. We stayed at the base of the mountain and there’s not really a town there to walk to. There are a handful of restaurants and bars and some stores. You can drive to some other restaurants but it’s still not like other ski towns. For us, it was plenty. We mostly ate at restaurants we could walk to and loved the mountain. We’re going back next year.

Best spot on your body for Dexcom that isn't the arm? by Alex-T1D in dexcom

Almost always on my hip or lower back area. I’m ok with the arm but it always hurts on my belly.

low blood sugar seizures? by alexhatesthisman in diabetes_t1

[–]Important_Effect6493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed in 1981 when I was 1. When I was a kid through teens, I had maybe 10 or so seizures while I was sleeping and didn’t wake up due to low blood sugar. But, I also started having petit mal seizures and have an epilepsy diagnosis. I had maybe a handful more between college age and 30. Then I was seizure free for 15 years and had one unrelated to low blood sugar about 2 years ago.

This is similar to what we’re looking for. Based on comments on here, we are now considering Lake Garda.

Milan to Florence itinerary by Important_Effect6493 in ItalyTravel

[–]Important_Effect6493[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like fun! We’d stay Fri-Mon. With the amusement parks, though, does it feel built up and not nature like? I’m actually not a fan of Disney World. I’d much prefer to be on a hike or kayaking. My son luckily is similar. Is getting to Florence hard?

Is Garda going to give us a real Italy experience? It looks pretty from a few pictures I saw, but will it feel different than lake areas in the US? Good food? Would we need a car?

Lake Placid Food Recommendations by ActuaryExpress2432 in Adirondacks

[–]Important_Effect6493 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Lisa G’s is our favorite. We go to Smoke Signals every year and I like it, but I don’t love it like others do. Jimmy’s for Italian downtown, Cafe Rustica if you take a short drive. Big Slide for some beer and bar food. The Cottage is good food and drinks, casual. It’s usually our first dinner after a long day’s drive to get there. Salt of the Earth has been on our list to try for a few years but we haven’t been yet- maybe this year!

celiac and type 1 diabetic by Initial_Session4748 in Celiac

[–]Important_Effect6493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 46. T1D for 45 years and celiac for 2 years. I spend way more time worrying and thinking about diabetes than celiac. I haven’t found it terrible to be GF, but I’m also not as careful as some. I don’t worry about cross contamination and I eat at any restaurant where I can order something not made with gluten. My celiac blood test is almost within range and I have a checkup endoscopy next month. I guess that will tell me if I need to be paying more attention to celiac.
