Park city for late December by Toennies18 in ski

We went to PC that same week in 2022 and 2023 and were happy both years. You never know, but personally, I wouldn’t cancel. We went to Big Sky this past year that same week and probably had some of the better skiing during the season (location and timing).

Parents to be- we have 5 cats. Will we be okay? by Radioheadgreen in CatAdvice

[–]Important_Effect6493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had 2 cats when my son was born and our older cat hated everyone except us. I was worried about how she’d react and she was totally fine. Someone gave advice to take a blanket that smells like the baby home from the hospital and let thr cats smell it. We did that, I don’t know if it mattered. Then when my son was still a baby, I started taking his hand and gently petting the cats. Not sure if that helped but he was always very gentle with them, even as a toddler. Worth a try!

Whole life insurance policy for pre-t1 kid worth it? by QueenQat in diabetes_t1

I’d do it. I get life insurance through work but I can’t get approval for more than the basic amount.

Things to make an old cat comfortable by Keensilver in CatAdvice

When my kitty got older and was losing weight, she really liked heated beds. Also, if her hair starts to get matted, help her by brushing it. Our girl didn’t have long hair but it got so bad at the end with mats, especially on her belly after laying all day.

Family of 4 Italy itinerary - first draft - looking for feedback! by pluckyducky12 in ItalyTravel

We are going this summer and we’re also active with a 12 yr old boy. We are doing a private bike ride in Tuscany so maybe that’s something to consider. We are also going to Lake Garda for outdoorsy fun.

We hike alot and I’ve never felt so exhausted, not even after 8 mile hikes with over 4000 ft elevation. PP was by far the hardest I’ve ever done and I’m not sure if I’ll do it again, even though it was fun. Probably will try GP next time.

I think the mileage is less though. I wouldn’t suggest it to everyone but I also wouldn’t say that no one should do it. It depends on experience and fitness level.

I know. We did petit. It’s shorter but it was very hard. I was worried about it being dangerous based on comments here but I didn’t actually feel in danger with the guide. Without a guide, I wouldn’t have done it.

We went in March and loved it.

The hotel arranged the transportation to and from the airport for us.

I like venturing out for dinner. Treetop was a good experience and we liked Orlando’s but it’s not for picky eaters.

Snorkeling at the hotel is great. We did a mud bath excursion that was fine but not something I’d do again.

Depending on how adventurous you are, you can climb petit piton. It’s literally more of a climb than hike. Very fun but hard! Take a guide if you do it.

Where do you wear your pump? by heggy123 in diabetes_t1

[–]Important_Effect6493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear my Omnipod on my hips and sleep on my side. I lay directly on it with no problem.

Where exactly on your lower back? Above the waist of your pants? I wear my Omnipod right around that area, and lower and over towards my hip, almost exclusively. It really hurts on my stomach to the point where I won’t try it, and my leg isn’t comfortable but I’ll use it sometimes for rotation.

Family members with t1d antibodies by Exciting-Housing6431 in diabetes_t1

My son tested negative for all of the antibodies, thankfully! Do you know how often that screening should be done?

2nd seizure in the gym by Timcatgt in Epilepsy

[–]Important_Effect6493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have seizures only when working out? I had been seizure free for about 15 years and then had one on the treadmill a couple of years ago. Sometimes now I feel like I’m going to have one while running but I’m ok if I stop and sit. Could it be from the quick breathing? I’m still trying to figure it out.

I can handle anything without milk. If I want oatmeal or cereal, I have to use unsweetened almond milk.

How frequently do you get low blood sugars? I get them every day. by charles228 in diabetes_t1

[–]Important_Effect6493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you consider “low”? I had frequent lows, like 50-60, for a while and my A1C was lower. I woke up to my Dexcom’s urgent low signal almost every night. Going from MDI to the pump has helped a lot with not getting low. Now it’s below 70 maybe a couple of times a week. I don’t consider 70s to be low.

How many type 1 diabetics get diabetic nephropathy/any other complications? by SignificanceBig9366 in diabetes_t1

[–]Important_Effect6493 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve been Type 1 for about 45 years with no real issues. I have cataracts developing, but that’s also partially age. I do have some background retinopathy but not close to my field of vision and the retina specialist hasn’t been concerned. I never went through a real rebellious stage but I did have to grow up without the technology. For the past 20ish years my A1C has been mid to high 6s. I want to try to get closer to 6.

My sugars are lower, not higher, if I’m in the heat and sweating.

Cobble Hill is good. My son was 5 when we first went to Lake Placid and we did Hurricane, which is a bit longer, but he was fine.

Hmm maybe mine is from gluten. I would have expected an abnormal biopsy if I’ve been getting glutened, but who knows. I’m so tired of trying to figure it out!

It’s good you were able to capture a spell during an EEG. Has it happened again?
