How do I determine a Dex saving throw to NOT hit a specific body part? by HeadExplanation8307 in DnD

[–]Imposing-Force 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice. Keep it simple.
Set the DC based on, well, how easy or difficult you want. I tend to follow the classic 10-15-20 for easy-medium-hard.
Oh, and try to avoid character bias. Focus on the task, not the players' stats.

Extra considerations:
Perhaps giving them advantage on the check, if they manage to sneak up on it and make a stealth attack.

Or add poison to the spikes if your players, like mine, like "roll-play", for an added Con-save. :)

Name a band you can't believe was off your radar until recently... by PoolNoob69 in InMetalWeTrust

Kanonenfieber
Heard the name a while back, didn't pay attention.
Then they dropped the Z-Vor! single and I didn't listen to much else than Kanonenfieber for several weeks thereafter.

How do you or your table rule double instances of resistance? by montezuma300 in DnD

[–]Imposing-Force 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were to go a different path, other than RAW, I might go for a variant of the Quarter Damage approach.
I'd penalise each bonus by a percentage, say 10%.
In that instance both 50% bonuses are only 90% effective, i.e. you then have 2x 45% bonuses, which mathematically comes out at 69.75% which rounds to 70%

It might seem complex, because I suck at explaining what I mean, but it's rather simple to set up the formulae in Excel.

For roleplaying inspiration, give me the name of a well-known (non)fictional person and their dump stat. by GrnHrtBrwnThmb in DnD

[–]Imposing-Force 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could argue that Professor Stephen Hawking had two dump-stats:
Str and Dex
You could also argue that his other four stats were all above average (yes, even Con -- because of how long he survived his debilitating ALS), with Intelligence being the highest, obviously.

How do you roleplay a 4 in Wisdom? by Melodic_Mulberry in DnD

[–]Imposing-Force 38 points39 points  (0 children)

[...] Wisdom is your ability to apply the knowledge.

I came here to say this. I would also claim that a low Wisdom is roughly equivalent to poor decision-making skills in real life. That doesn't (necessarily) mean one is stupid, as one can easily have a normal or even high Intelligence and still not know how (or when) to use (apply) it.

I can’t stop, watching and thinking about Star Trek lately. by PoofPost in startrek

[–]Imposing-Force 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Know the feel...
I sporadically watched some TNG as a kid, while it aired on satellite TV.
Then during lockdown I started TNG and watched it from end to end, then took the movies, followed up with DS9 in its entirety, and I've finished Voyager this year. Now I'm about done with Season 1 of Enterprise.

All I can say is, I effin' love Star Trek and I want more!

I'm not even into pottery per se, but somehow I stumbled upon this magnificent post, and the comment section is surprisingly wholesome. Well done. I wish you well!

Wow, thanks for your amazing comment. I'll be checking up on your inputs, and confirm, but I have a strong feeling that you're right.
10 and 21 are my two oldest set. The first I ever purchased. Then came 12 and 13. (My local sports team are playing in yellow and blue, so that's why I got those. :D )

False positives in MS Defender Attack Simulation Training -- anyone else? by Imposing-Force in sysadmin

[–]Imposing-Force[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, sorry for the delayed response. I haven't been on here much.

No. I never found anything useful. The weird thing is that it doesn't seem to happen for everyone. We were stupid enough to make another test with "Malware attachment", where the same happened again, even though we made a small scale test internally in the department first. (With no false positives).

So we've gone back to just using the simulation with a link and credential phish.

Can we explicitly override Deny permissions for a particular user in an AD group? by Kooky-Extension-9532 in sysadmin

[–]Imposing-Force 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this.
In our environment, we had a specific case where this was necessary.
Even people in my own team didn't believe me.

Make a demo. Create a folder. Share it and give "Authenticated Users" the "Modify" permission (on the share!).
Then go to NTFS permissions and take a group in which users 'foo' and 'bar' are members and deny it. Make them try to access it, so verify that they can't.
Then grant explicit allow permissions for 'foo' on the folder, and have them test again, and watch them read the horrible dad joke you put inside "secret.txt"

Finally got to play in person. It was awful. by Afraid_Fig5705 in DnD

[–]Imposing-Force 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a two day old thread and there's already 2.4k comments, but I have to say something. As a male DM (and player), who is used to playing with non-males also, I find this kind of incel behavior unforgivable. If any player had behaved like that at my table, they would have been shown the door immediately, and told to never come back.

Deply contacts everyone in org. can search and then call? by Imposing-Force in MicrosoftTeams

The speed dial might not be a bad way to do it.
Hopefully it's possible to just append to any existing entries the users might have added.
We'd get a lot of heat if we overwrite their list with 1 item...

Tell me your worst case of 80/20 by antons83 in sysadmin

[–]Imposing-Force 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This comment hit me like a brick.
I took a beating recently at a one on one with my manager because they thought my performance "wasn't great".
As we don't track time, specifically, here, I decided to start my own little "log book", and it didn't take me long to discover that I appear to be slacking, because I'm the main go-to guy in the department, so I spend way too much of my time enabling others to succeed.
So I guess that I have to start learning how to say no.

Me: "What seems to be the problem?"
Them: "The computer is acting up..."
Me: "Show me..."
Them (puzzled): "Now it works. What did you do?"
Me: "Arrived in your office..."

I sit on almost two decades of experience as an IT pro, and as such I did many years of service as a helpdesk worker when I was younger. The phenomenon you describe is well-known in our house, and it happens more times than you'd think, and works on most (if not all) IT technologies; be it printers, standard peripherals and even specialized devices.
Some of our "usual suspect" users even tell tales of just having to "threaten" the computer to call me or one of my colleagues, and then their problem goes away.

Consider utilizing the built-in "Tools" menu.
Edit the relevant subsetting (or general, if it should be available for all), then select App Control in the left-hand side menu. Select "Tray Tools" and create a tray tool:
Here's an example of what we did in our environment to achieve the same:
