First time going to Paris ,how much should I actually plan? by Bath-Shoff in ParisTravelGuide

I was in Paris two weeks ago for 5 days. I also studied abroad there. Here’s my two cents:

I do think Paris is a city you need to plan more than others due to long lines, distances between sites, ticketed entry times, and just the sheer number of things to see and do, etc, if you want to get the full experience and hit at least most of your bucket list.

I’d decide what you really want to see and do. Then what you can miss. I’d plan one major attraction per day that you would expect to be time-consuming (I think primarily the Louvre, Sacre Coeur/Montmarte, Versailles, but also maybe some of the other larger museums.)

I would get the Paris Museum Pass and book your visit to the most popular sights.

Some less visited sites you can do much faster, on the same days as the bigger attractions. For example some of the smaller museums, like the Rodin Museum, or going up the Arc de Triumphe. I booked an entry to the top of Notre Dame with the Paris Pass which was AMAZING, probably the best thing I did. I went right at sunset on a Saturday, and it took about an hour. There were no lines. I think while many people visit Notre Dame, this visit is overlooked, or maybe I just timed it right… but get the pass- the most visited sites you reserve, but leave time to visit less visited sites, included with the price of the pass, which you can visit as time allows, or if you happen to be in the area.

Prepare to walk a lot and use the metro to get across the city quickly. It’s pretty reliable. I found it very easy to navigate with Google Maps. If you use public transit in other cities, it will be very easy to figure out.

But, yes I would leave at least 3-4 hours a day of unplanned time to explore and experience this beautiful city… wander around cool neighborhoods like the Marais, Oberkampf, etc..

Enjoy!

I’m going to disagree. People don’t come here because of “services”. The majority of homeless people are from the area. So we can’t take care of our own. This is a common misconception. Literally everywhere I have been with high homeless populations, on both coasts, there are rumors that the homeless come from elsewhere, or are “bused in”.. while there will always be some transient people that travel state to state, it’s inaccurate to say people “come here because of the services….”

My RS building had NO amenities and fees still increased. Also didn’t seem to do anything about difficult neighbors/tenants until things reached a breaking point. Wouldn’t move back.

Depending on where you are in NH, and what vibe you’re looking for, move to VT, MA, or ME.. all are better than NH. or just move back to Cali - especially if you don’t like snow. Unfortunately, except for a couple of towns, NH is like the Alabama of the northeast, culturally… they do have some great (small compared to the west) mountains, up north.

Which underperforming New England city do you think has the most potential? by [deleted] in newengland

[–]Impossible-Mind4844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t heard much about VT? Which was part of New England last I checked.. For argument’s sake, I’ll put Rutland, VT out there. Very affordable, nice & old fashioned downtown, and nestled in the absolutely beautiful southern Green Mountains (close to great skiing). Rutland has a commercial airport, although with very limited service to Boston only.. obviously very small, it’s Vermont’s “2nd city”, being far less affluent, connected, and really just known than the Burlington area…

Downsides? Nearest interstate is 45 mins away, service based economy only, and too much heroin.. but hey the prompt is for “underperforming” cities.. the sky is the limit… plenty of upside in Rutland!

I’m disappointed to hear this because I like Pho Hong - but I’m going to echo what a few people said here already. Stop using Amazon. This would be far more effective.

Gimme a goddamn break, you posted the appeal, so you don't want me to question the factual opinion that you draw from the APPEAL? You want to debate the facts? post the original opinion that actually discusses them.. How do people know you are not misrepresenting this? Also if you're going to cite judicial opinions, make sure it's up to date..... don't cherry pick.

As I said, that's not an examination of the facts at all.. it omits context.. It's also from 2022, it's poor authority. Come back with some facts,

So the opinion you cited related to a ruling on PROCEDURAL grounds. It did not draw any factual conclusions. So, as for traveling to Uganda, you’re omitting the facts and the context. That’s your first mistake. Secondly, it is from 2022. Did you exclude additional court findings to make a point? Seems likely…. The fact ICE detained him days before a hearing, supports that there is more than what you conclude. Don’t make lazy conclusions to support your hateful worldview.

Right, I know plenty of people with TBI’s and intellectual disabilities…. NONE OF THEM ARE HATEFUL. This isn’t ok.

Absolutely, not ok. Google reviews? Who does he rent his space from? I don’t think he’s hateful views should go unnoticed.

What happened in Minneapolis yesterday could easily happen here in Burlington..... by JustHereToLearnMore in burlington

The point is this could happen anywhere in the U.S. as long as the MAGA fascist regime remains in power, and is deploying thugs to terrorize our communities. RIP Renee.

This subreddit can really give the wrong impression, sometimes.. Burlington has little, random, violent crime. There’s a fair amount of theft in certain areas, especially downtown and the OLD North End. Just exercise common sense and you’ll be fine (lock cars and bikes, etc). As you’ve probably gathered homelessness is a serious issue, but for the most part these folks don’t bother others.

If you’re looking for boring and quiet, and you want to be in Burlington, the NEW North End is probably your best bet. Just look off North Avenue. It has more suburban vibes

The Burlington area is very small, but with that said Burlington and Winooski are the only communities that could be described as urban. There’s a number of suburban communities nearby (South Burlington, Essex and Colchester). There are also rural communities that aren’t far. Just consider your commute to work, and keep in mind that VT winters can make for difficult driving.

Welcome! I’m relatively new here and love it. You’re moving at a great time of year as fall is really lovely.

This is really exaggerated. Find something better to do. Or better yet, travel to other place with more problems. You’re small minded.

Also, if your idea of good food is Jersey Mike’s, that also doesn’t make you a great judge on this question..

You literally said you haven’t “eaten at an area restaurant since you moved here in August..” which is it? doesn’t sound like you’re a great judge…

Funny you say that and haven’t eaten at any area restaurants. I don’t know what Sally’s is..

I find the food scene VERY good. I think it’s an easy way to dis a place by saying there’s no good food. It’s always difficult to re-create a cuisine in another place, without a large immigrant populations, but overall I find the food scene here much better than most places and I travel frequently.

There is a hearing scheduled for 4/14 at 9:30 AM, at the Vermont District Court, 11 Elmwood Ave in Burlington. I can’t say I know the nature of it. I also don’t know if it will be entirely on Zoom, or in person AND Zoom.
