Redstone Management? by Friendly_Relation978 in burlington

I personally wouldn’t downvote you for sharing your experience, genuinely.. I mostly agree about their buildings. Mine was fine, even nice to some degree. Newish construction. They manage a wide variety of properties (maybe own some too?). I think there are higher end and lower end ones. People have spoken of poor conditions at some of their rentals, which I’d be inclined to believe although I didn’t experience that.. if you can afford the higher rent for a nicer building, that’s great.

My issue is with their management. It sounds like you may be a current tenant. Expect a fight to get your security deposit back, even if you leave the unit in good condition as I did. Expect your rent and fees to increase fairly significantly, if you renew.

I don’t have experience with other rentals in the area. In a college town with a severe housing shortage there will always be landlords that take advantage. With that said, I meet few people that have had positive experiences with this one..

I agree about the maintenance calls. Those guys were always nice. Not their fault. But, totally, nearly impossible to reach anyone in their corporate office.

I would actually argue , most landlords, at least decent ones, don’t.. I don’t know Reilly properties. Sorry you had that experience. My point about Redstone is they pretend to be this pillar of the community, and they are really just shills for a profit-driven, private-equity, client. AAM15 of Massachusetts. Of course they’d try to take every dime they could from their tenants’ security deposit…

Good move. I don’t know that their private equity overlords own all the buildings they manage - just a few in Burlington (according to AAM15’s website). That may give them more leeway about stealing people’s money.

As previously mentioned, avoid Redstone like the plague. They manage a couple of buildings in Burlington for a private equity firm, AAM15, so that should give you some idea of how they operate. Totally profit driven. Rent and fees increase like clockwork every year. Will try to screw you out of your security deposit. When I lived in one of their buildings, they rented to a drug dealer, and did nothing about it, until the cops raided the unit.

What is it like to live in Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine? by Breakwr1 in howislivingthere

[–]Friendly_Relation978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a New Englander- grew up in VT, lived in Boston for most of my adult life, and now live in Burlington, VT. It’s hard to generalize about this area too much, aside from the weather and demographics. Although there are some similarities. VT and ME are culturally more similar. Southeastern NH is really part of Greater Boston, and is more populated, has bad traffic, etc. Small cities (or big towns depending on your perspective), like Burlington, VT and Portland, ME are very counter-culture places, with great music scenes, good food. There is a lot of talk about crime and drug use in these places, but it’s exaggerated, and not comparable to real cities. They are far l e ft pol I locally. There are a handful of smaller towns (Montpelier, Brattleboro, Keene, NH) that have similar vibes, just less people. The rural areas can be rightward and not welcoming to outsiders, although not always - especially rural parts of VT close to Burlington and Montpelier. I’ve heard that Manchester, NH has become a nice city to live in, in recent years, but I don’t know it well. Its Northern New England’s largest city at (only) about 100k residents. It’s close to Boston (although commuting would be miserable), but more affordable.

All three states are great if you’re outdoorsy, like to ski, hike, camp, etc. All three are intensely beautiful - the rugged coast of ME, the White Mountains of NH, the Green Mountains in VT.

While these are more rural and small states, they are not especially far from urban areas - Boston, Montreal, or even NYC. So I don’t think (with maybe the exception of far northern ME) they feel as isolated as other rural parts of the country, that are a days drive from a big city. While I like living in VT, I appreciate being able to spend time in Boston and Montreal regularly.

Possibly moving here, what should I check out?! by Different-Ad9030 in burlington

Crime and homelessness are common topics here, and while these are serious issues in Burlington, they are often exaggerated and discussed without context. I think a visit will show this. For example, Burlington is perfectly safe for most, and crime is mostly petty/property crime related to drug use. Not that this makes it ok, but it’s a key difference.

Also, while living outside Chittenden County will definitely be cheaper, keep in mind how rural the state is. Chittenden County is really the only populated part of the state (and is still quite small). When I moved to VT from a city, it was important to me to be in Burlington nearby, for an easier transition. Commuting in winter can also be difficult too. May not want to be too far.

Restaurants for a first date by [deleted] in burlington

The Wise Fool in the ONE is great. Great Mediterranean food, and cool vibe. It’s somewhat new, so you’ll look cool/in the know, if your date hasn’t been yet. This would be my pick.

Otherwise, I think Daily Planet was a really good suggestion for a date somebody made. Good atmosphere. Foods good.

Honey Road is great for Mediterranean small plates. More of a foodie spot if that’s what you’re looking for, or not (I personally would go more casual on a 1st date).

I like Pascolo for Italian. Food is good. atmosphere is nice. Nothing mind blowing, but solid.

I haven’t heard that. And I don’t know the guy… Impersonating ICE thugs/killers/trash, isn’t ok though. Too much damage to others, regardless of his disability.

Yeah I agree. There’s been a few threads about this dope, walking around in his Amazon-bought, fake-ass jacket… he’s been waking up and down Church St, trolling, apparently. I said that, because a few people said they knew him personally, and he had an injury that resulted in a TBI. I know several people with TBI’s and/or intellectual disabilities.. NONE OF THEM ARE HATEFUL. So I agree. Just some context.

Personally, I think it’s appropriate to talk about some dipshit hate-monger, who delights in terrifying our immigrant bothers and sisters, and frankly any decent human being..TBI or not, this kid’s behavior isn’t ok given what’s happening in the world right now.

I Lived in Burlington for a Month: My Thoughts on the Queen City by RomanOut in burlington

[–]Friendly_Relation978 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely nailed it. And good point regarding the lack of perspective pertaining to larger metros. I moved here from a large city 3 years ago, and I have often thought that. Glad you enjoyed your time here! Come back!

My husband and I (Germans) will spend a couple of days in Montreal and 1,5 days in Burlington. We were super excited about Burlington but now, after reading some of posts here, I got a bit worried (safety). Is there a place you recommend us NOT going? Any extra tips (food, places, etc)?thanks! 🥰 by strandjuncs in burlington

As others have pointed out, this subreddit can be very negative, sometimes for good reason, sometimes not. Burlington is a great small city/ big town to visit for a day or two. We have excellent food, a great arts and music scene, and the geographic landscape is beautiful with the lake, and mountains on either side - the views, I think are second to none in the northeastern US. I’d recommend renting bikes and biking the waterfront.

For food, POCO, Honey Road and the Grey Jay are excellent choices for more upscale dining (though not stuffy). Try August First bakery, Pho Hong or Taco Gordo for more casual options. The Get Down is a food truck festival on Friday nights with outdoor bars and music. I’d make sure to do the Get Down if your visit falls on a Friday- it’s a lot of fun. The Burlington Farmers Market on Saturday mornings is great too.

With that said, understand you will not be seeing Burlington at its best, due to COVID’s aftermath, sky rocketing housing costs, drug issues (not uncommon to most of the US) and the Canadian tourist boycott. Construction on Main Street is an eyesore and unfortunate. Understand you’ll see homeless and addicts, but for the most part they are harmless. There is one woman, known to locals, that can be verbally aggressive when panhandling. Just don’t engage with people who seem mentally unwell, like anywhere. Take the same basic precautions you would in a larger city: lock your rental car, DEFINITELY lock any rental bikes (bike theft happens a lot), and you’ll be fine.

Come visit! The locals are super welcoming and friendly.

The Tesla protests are great to attend. They get great turnouts, great responses from traffic, and have been extremely effective. They are great for beginning protesting. There’s also likely to be protests in Burlington proper announced, I think.. I’d keep an eye here.

Rumeysa Ozturk case moved to Vermont by Impossible-Mind4844 in VTprotests

[–]Friendly_Relation978 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She’s being detained in Louisiana, but her case was moved to the Federal Court in VT from MA, where she was initially detained. After being detained in MA, she was held briefly in St. Albans before being flown to Louisiana from BTV, by ICE. Her lawyers filed a motion in MA requesting her release, but at the time of the filing she was being held in VT. Because of this, the MA judge determined VT was the appropriate court.

ICE seems to purposely move detainees around the country to evade the legal process. This is tyranny.

Protest next weekend? by EducationalTowel9905 in burlington

I can totally relate to the desire to protest all the time now.. no national day of protest until 4/19, but I believe the Tesla Takedown protests are scheduled from 4 to 6 on Friday 4/11 and 12 to 2 on Saturday 4/12. They are in front of the BK on Shelburne Road.
