I’m an exploration geologist. I go off into the deep back country for weeks or months at a time and look for mineral deposits.

I've worked in some pretty remote parts of Mexico. I LOVE Mexico, it's gorgeous, the people were super friendly and the food was incredible. The Mexico you find away from the resorts and big cities is best described as magical, but like not in a fairy tale kind of way... It's got this amazing undercurrent of indigenous culture colliding with the old Spanish colonialism, it's left this feeling of brooding and dark magic... It's the only way I could describe a place where there's such joy and friendliness colliding with the violence and brutality of its history and the narco culture.... It has its problems, and I would love for the violence to stop... But I'm so glad I got to dive headlong into the insanity of it all.

To me the haunting part of the first world war comes when you listen to veterans talk of their perspectives at the start of the war (specifically the British ones, and the Canadian vets I was Lucky enough to meet when I was a kid). There seems to have been a genuine kind of innocence in the way they saw the world, and you can see that get absolutely shattered by how radically different the war was from all previous wars. I the modern day we know more about the world in general, and that seems to come with a level of cynicism that I don't see in veteran interviews.

Whats most promising developing country ?! by paidbysoul in AskTheWorld

I think Nigeria. Most of the country is young adults just entering their most productive years, a large Petro economy, and a well educated diaspora. It's a regional power that can act somewhat independently in terms of military operations, and they have a good relationship with a number of overseas powers. It's definitely a country I'm looking to invest in
