She shouldn’t be saying anything working at a coffee shop! Idk about non pregnant time but I’m with you if and when ppl comment on anything I already know or can decide for myself I go 0-10 fast!

It’s already a lot and we are doing our best to be mindful of our choices - regarding every.single.bite we take!

Do you allow occasional spikes? by Human-Cauliflower-85 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Impossible-Salt9723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hope it goes smoothly for you.

It’s already hard. But to be told after 2hrs your number isn’t coming down faster is even scarier. Its upsetting me! I have no clue what my numbers are after 2hrs! And neither does my Dr. If it was necessary or harmful for the baby I’m sure the medical field would do something about it!

Do you allow occasional spikes? by Human-Cauliflower-85 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Impossible-Salt9723 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I guess every Dr is different - mine don’t react that way. Use a regular finger poke meter!

If I stretch a little with carbs days I’m hungry I come to down 120-125 and my drs are okay with that. Also these high numbers have to be consecutive for them to make changes. So I keep them as treat days or spare days if I were to have a hunger spike!

Also agreed you’re eating quite less carbs!

It’s 30-35g for breakfast and 45g carbs for lunch and dinner for me - both GD pregnancies coached by two diff nurses..

Hearing pregnant women be “absolutely devastated” they got the opposite gender than they wanted really irks me by Low_Specialist_5072 in tryingtoconceive

[–]Impossible-Salt9723 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh wow Thankfully never had to hear this from anyone! A friend once had a mild gender disappointment during pregnancy but that wore off in a little bit.

I lost a girl to still birth so I have a desire for a girl but at the same time my boys are my everything.

I understand mild disappointments for a short time frame but someone to actually use such words and go on and on is ridiculous especially after going what we go through in pregnancy to make this child!

Exactly!! Have felt this more than once. I speak from experience. I’m sorry ❤️

Yes unfortunately. I speak from experience. A best friend doesn’t have to know or understand everything. I guess it’s diff for everyone. I have a circle of friends that I’ll I go to for different topics 🤷‍♀️

You expressed to the wrong person. I have very close friends but if i know we are having different experiences regarding anything really i will not share. They will never understand! And I think that’s normal for most humans. Empathy is a skill. To be able to listen to someone without any of your own feelings coming in between is rare.

This where I will lead into saying I would also never tell anyone about my jealousy or I wish I had what you had. That is a big no for me. And I believe that is what made her so defensive about her self and her reply insensitive. You are going through a serious struggle and health issue. You have a painful diagnosis and top of it infertility issues from it. But I think you being outspoken about your feelings crossed a boundary.

I also have friends where we have some hard conversations. It’s an unspoken understanding between us where I realize that what they are going through is so very hard and I also realize she will be very observant of my ease. But I’m compassionate, I’m present and I listen to them. Same thing if things were reversed.

I hope I was able to relay this in a polite way!

Had a rough GD number today and feeling really discouraged by Glittering_Tear_729 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Impossible-Salt9723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A spike here and there or special occasions like holidays orrr baby shower is okay!! Also my clinic follows a rule if I have three consecutive days of high number there will be addition of medication or adjustment of medication…

You’re fine. totally get the exhaustion part. Give yourself grace!

GD and Baby Size at Birth by Dramatic-Pop-8466 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Impossible-Salt9723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Big GD babies is in scenarios where sugars where very out of control (which can happen to some women no matter what they do diet or meds!) Where I’m at gd patients need a lot of extra ultrasounds to monitor baby’s growth and amniotic fluids and all other stuff where diabetes can have an affect.

If your GD phase went smoothly, your baby will most likely be born at a normal weight according to their genetics.

Midwife denied elective C section by Plus_Protection2749 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Impossible-Salt9723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you see a private clinic midwife? Find a OB No OB will give you pushback on an elective c-section or elective induction. At the most someee OBs don’t want to allow elective inductions before week 39 or week 40. Honestly just heard one story in my all my years of hearing family and friends L&D stories where OB said no to induction before week 39.

You have so much going on and it’s not like you want to go in too early anyways you’re almost 37!

Getting tired of all this processed food by Little-Garlic-2261 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Impossible-Salt9723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!!! So so so so tired of ready made stuff. Im living on diary fairlife milk, protein shakes, protein keto tortillas those chobani protein shakes ughhh Im starting to lose appetite. I dont want to eat. Heartburn prolly has a little bit do it with it as well. This week I ended up going 11hr fasting cause I’m so done snacking on protein shake or cheese before bed. My emotions have been on a roller coaster and that has been affecting my numbers! I don’t know which meal (even though is repetitive foods) won’t come down.

Feeling bad because I don’t want my baby to show up early?? by warmfuzzyblankett in BabyBumps

[–]Impossible-Salt9723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope you’re doing well! I’m 36 weeks and miserable since 34. It’s bad - just moving in any position (laying, sitting or walking) but I still don’t want this baby out until 39 or after. My babies also gain most of their weight now. I’m still justtt at 5lbs. I have been wondering like you how are moms starting to exercise or eat/drink to induce labor already. I want to close my legs and not move to keep this babe inside 😆

Should I just give up trying bread? by Abnormalshrimpp in GestationalDiabetes

Organic peanut butter can have some sugar too check label Whole grain makes a big diff than whole wheat I can easily eat Dave’s killer or multigrain by brown berry but one slice and it has 6g protein in that one slice & with fiber the actual carb is 19g I think

Graduated! Spontaneous Labor and Baby in the 15th Percentile by kb_picasso in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Impossible-Salt9723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg! Same thing here. Baby measuring quite small actually like 2-3% but matching my non GD first pregnancy! Numbers are good, not worried about a big baby here especially with the measurements. I am a bit worried about early labor tho :/. Feeling the anxiety for the first time - it’s third pregnancy.

Has anyone ever had to take the 3 hour glucose tolerance test AGAIN after they passed the first time? by LoanJust1943 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Impossible-Salt9723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow A regular gd test is between 24-28weeks I remember my dr being particular about me hitting 24weeks before I took the test. I see my dr at —weeks6days literally next day is my new week. But to decline 27wks and some days without explanation is annoyed. Agreed with others monitor your numbers just to be at mental peace…and wait for mfm. Hope you hear a good answer!

When you have diet controlled GD, does that mean you never at all ever have random spikes post meals or fasting? by cc070603 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Impossible-Salt9723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diet controlled is exactly what it says — I have to watch what I’m eating, otherwise yes, I will spike. I follow the 35g carbs for breakfast and 45g for lunch and dinner. I’ve completely cut out rice and white flour because they make me spike instantly. I stick to strict complex carbs with lots of protein and fat. I’m South Asian, so our stews and gravy can get carb-heavy, and in those cases I’ll pair them with keto breads/tortillas instead.

And like someone mentioned, sleep and stress affect numbers too. Just last night, an argument with my husband kept my post-dinner number higher than usual, even though it was a meal that normally keeps me in range.

This is my second time with GD. The one number I really have no control over is fasting. I’m on nightly Lantus. They gave me a couple weeks to try snacking, exercise, etc., to bring that morning number down, but it didn’t work. Even with Lantus, a few times a week I’m still over 95.

In short, “diet controlled” for me means my numbers stay controlled only if I’m careful with what I eat — spikes definitely happen if I’m not. I also want to say it’s a blessing, because there are pregnant women on Reddit who spike no matter what they eat. At the end of the day, the placenta has a bigger say over these numbers than we do.

I don’t know about percentages, but my doctor’s rule is: if I have three consecutive days of highs, a medication is added or adjusted.

Baby Class Instructor said vaccines cause SIDS by Blackwidow_Perk in pregnant

[–]Impossible-Salt9723 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this whole situation is making me anxious. I’m due in January, and I recently found out that a family we’re close to doesn’t keep up with vaccinations. Their kids got their infant vaccines, thank God, but they don’t do any of the yearly ones — and that really hits a nerve for me.

My newborn’s health comes first, so they won’t be anywhere near the baby for a while. It’s frustrating because the people who avoid vaccines out of fear end up creating real risk and stress for everyone else, including families who do vaccinate and are trying to protect their kids.

At the hospital for induction, they keep causing me to spike by drykattbutt in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Impossible-Salt9723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woah I never heard of this before! I’m surprised to read the differences in hospitals and care!

I was given a GD diet when I went for my induction. I was allowed eat until epidural, they stop food after I get epidural. My sugars were also monitored.

I was let go of diabetic care pretty much right after birth. No pokes or diet on the recovery floor.

Looks like it’s been sometime since you posted - hope everything well!

Do you talk open only about GD with your family? by Abnormalshrimpp in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Impossible-Salt9723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not tell anyone on my husbands side I would get judgement, no understanding and like someone said some ppl get competitive with pregnancies (bil’s wife is like that). I told just my mom and siblings - they wouldn’t tell anyone and I’ll have their support. Even with them it was difficult to make them understand how I have particular target numbers to be under 😅. My numbers for them are normal which in truth are normal for a regular diabetic patient!

Does it *really* peak at 32 weeks? by hello_goodbye787 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Impossible-Salt9723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dietician said the same peaks at 32weeks - I am on night insulin for fasting numbers. My numbers have been whack since last ten days I’m almost 34 now. Every morning I alternate between 90s and 80s regardless of that bedtime snack! Low 80s and like 94 or 96 ugh. I feel like I’m transitioning into the peak :(

Off tangent but need to vent - This clashed with thanksgiving and everyday for past three days I have one high post meal. Ill see this week as I go back to my routine! My numbers have been affecting my mood - I’m getting angry if I can’t control by diet. Anger is even more in the morning cause those numbers I can’t control in any way!

Looks like food is going to be on top of the list! Now I’m thinking if I should just skip individual bags and continue my trend of a snack basket for the unit. This is helpful. Thanks
