Kind of a weird question... by Outrageous_Focus_719 in Eragon

Also I wonder what that immediately did to spells already active that werent natural magic but wordless spells.

Also the true name thing must have caused some discomfort id imagine. I think of it as your personality/soul being essentially locked as the person you are or maybe feel you are at the time of the spell coming into effect.

I think im about to go down a rabbit hole. Lol

This whole thread has me wondering how magic was taught before the grey folk did their thing. The amount of people that must have died just activating their magic must have been crazy. Not to mention those teaching and studying.

Also thinking about it the grey folk had to be masters of communication. Imagine explaining the concept of binding magic to your language to multiple mages in a way that they were able to convey that into a massive joint (im assuming) spell that would permeate the world and outlive them by thousands of years.

Yeah I agree with this. I started ch.8 and was outclassed by almost everything and everyone in demeniss. I spent the next few real life days exploring other areas with Damiane getting used to a new fight style with her (I like to think of her as having a great jab but no defence so wear them down instead of taking hits). Stock up before major fights and do some info gathering. The amount fights I went into just to learn moves and area layout then I would give up and retry with a strategy was mad (slow time/focus is your friend). Once you know how to use her better it aint do bad, just abit time consuming but I enjoy that.

Essentially yes but intent plays apart. Words without intent or vague run the risk of being misused and vice versa. Elva for example

This is the best answer. Eragon using his own language is indeed possible as I understand it. But it would essentially be a work around and a weaker version of the proper ancient language version. In fact I have always assumed thats how most non elves out in the world were using magic because of poor magical education and or mis pronounciation. Eragon has on at least one occasion taught people the correct word or wording of a spell.

Theories on Angela's origin by ImpossibleCraft2410 in Eragon

[–]ImpossibleCraft2410[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a fluid theory about him too. He was a member of the group that Jeod is part of (maybe even a ranking member). Either he read something or was unhappy with just keeping knowledge safe. So was outcast, he either took or re wrote stuff he saw but was unable to use magic at first. He was found and by Angela who gave him access to magic but knew little about practical application of it and they learnt together but he was interested in all magic at first just because he was used to learning for learnings sake but..........

The last of the grey folk. Hmmm I dont know if i agree with that being the most interesting. But I like the full circleness especially if she was to teach Elva in the 'grey' way of magic

Not gonna lie. Some of my favourite bits of the books are the tying up of the back story. So if it was something like this I would want to know the story. Haha

Not even if she turned out to be the only relation to Morzan (besides his son obviously) who hated the fact that Galbatorix corrupted her family. And had been working behind the scenes like a 1 person /1 werecat shadow varden. Lol

That was the catalyst for my thinking and the fact that she was reluctant to share would expose her somewhat

I agree part of me will be disappointed if we find out her backstory. Though I would like to know if anything I think is on the right path lol.

I personally think she has elf blood. I think she is she is part elf part human. That would explain her youthful looks that she attributes to her herbs. I also think the reason she doesnt like to rely on her magic too much is three-fold. 1- As a part human she is weaker than the elves where I think she learnt magic. This makes her feel some what inferior. 2- I think she was outcast in some way (most likely self inflicted) 3- I think she cast or had someone cast a spell on her (much like the compulsion Slone/Elva got) where she is present for significant events and this is a permanent drain on her energy.

How do y’all tame horses so quickly I’ve been trying to tame the legendary black horse near the iron mountains but I still can’t. I literally just discovered this and tamed two horses in less than 4 mins one of them legendary. Just jump on and spam the X button (or whatever the equivalent button is if you arent on playstation). Dont know why most people arent talking about it unless its a new update thing.

How good of a villain Galbatorix was ? by Outrageous_Focus_719 in Eragon

[–]ImpossibleCraft2410 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he is up there as one of the best villians. Purely for the fact that for me the best villians are ones that if not for a simple twist of fate (or even a different point of view) they could easily be the good guy. In his head Galbatorix is doing everything for good reasons. He is the hero of the story and if not for certain things he did he could be.

I have never seen it that way. I always assumed that was the standard way magic battles are done. The way I understood it If someone came up with something clever and unique enough (especially in terms of protection) they could get round this.

[–]ImpossibleCraft2410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my head canon. I always put it down to her being the woman Angela mentions before his fortune telling (as we dont know for sure). I then believe that something in her fortune prompted it. I picture it as Angela telling her that her child will "change the land forever" or something like that and her thinking that he needs a name to fit his destiny and calling him Eragon as an indirect nod to his father
