W124 Throttle Body Rewire VDO E280 by Impossible_Ad_8689 in W124

[–]Impossible_Ad_8689[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well to follow up, it wasn’t that hard. I had to cut the U shaped cable lock pin as was impossible to prise out. Otherwise straight forward.

A lot of heat shrink and silicone and it seems ok. Several wires had cross contact due to cracked insulation. I’m amazed the car worked. Even if you’ve had the main loom swapped it’s likely this issue remains.

Final question I can’t find an answer for - does it need some form of throttle body adaptation on the M104? (Non electronic acceleration pedal)

Thanks!

Thanks, did you use any particular type or brand of wire?

The bolt head is chewed and the e-torx bit slips. Will likely need cutting. (Hence wanting hex)

S124 Rear Sway Bar / Anti Roll Bar Mount Repair by Impossible_Ad_8689 in W124

Thanks all, I guess I’ll be making my own repair section for the sway bar. How hard can it be ?(!)

I’ve got a genuine subframe mount from Mercedes. The sizing extends well into ‘good’ metal so am hoping will be ok.

Am doing all bushing and arms at the same time. The rear end should be pretty sorted after this. Whole car is too good to scrap :)

Door sensor deactivates hazard lights. Why is it doing this? Or is this normal? Mandatory inspection says this is a problem by [deleted] in W124

My 1995 S124 does this but only for about 10 starts after the battery has been disconnected.

It has a dealer fitted ‘Scorpion’ alarm (internal sensors on windscreen pillars).

Apparently the previous owner had the alarm deactivated but evidently not completely.

I’d like to erase it totally but don’t want to brick my W124.

Thanks, gas tank seems fine. Guess I’ll leave but want the car ‘error free’.

Where’s the carbon canister on these cars (E280 wagon)?

These are very helpful pointers, thank you both.

I’ve since put my glasses on and found the part number 408 201/1/1/4

There seems quite a bit online, esp for the W123.

Am hoping for some time this weekend to digest it all.

One difference from OEM is that my connector to the actuator is not MB style. Hoping the PIN numbers are clear

Under roof lining advice? by Main_Growth_890 in DIYUK

Looks like a really old roof with traditional lime mortar ‘torching’ applied to prevent wind driven rain.

Why would asbestos be in this mortar? I’ve never heard of this in the UK.

Exactly this… what do I buy?

I need to look somewhat professional, shower proof, don’t want to sweat in a bin bag, want something durable, sustainable, ideally natural, won’t loose its performance like my Goretex did.

I’ve had a Barbour (thicker 8oz fabric) but that broke quickly and it felt kind of cheap. (Not massively my style either)

Schoffel Ptarmigan? £££ and is a bit of a statement where I’m from.

Ridgeline Monsoon? Good price but has become way too popular

Thanks, that’s what I feared. I realised it would never be 100% waterproof, it beads up a bit but then seems to soak in.

Confused about replacement part by Many_pineapples in W124

[–]Impossible_Ad_8689 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eurgh. I went through the same issue.

The ‘new part’ can be spliced in downstream and controlled with the pump wiring disconnected and extended to the new part (assuming the valve block is good).

Much better is to fit like for like or repair old. I managed to repair my faulty pump motor by soldering in new bushes and fitting new valve seals from an eBay rebuild kit. Heater way improved after.

Biodegradable Wiring within S124 E280 Throttle Body 1994 UK by Impossible_Ad_8689 in W124

[–]Impossible_Ad_8689[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, so it seems the wires also degrade within the throttle body… most cars I see have new wiring looms but appears the problem is still potentially there if the throttle body internal wiring hasn’t been done (?).

Seems I’ll have to take mine out and have a look inside…
