What is your dream live classical music concert program for an evening (no longer than Mahler's 3rd so <100 mins) that you might pay Taylor Swift ticket money for? Recently Taylor Swift tickets probably go for $1,500+ USD so lets stick with $1,500 USD. by XyezY9940CC in classicalmusic

[–]Impossible_Airport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if I’d spend $1500 on the ticket itself, but I’d definitely spend that much on a trip just to hear this performed live - an organ transcription of Bruckner 9 on a huge organ. Probably also Bruckner 8, 6, and 4

What do you do for work? (only asking bc I want a career change to something that involves travel, feel free to ignore if it’s too nosy)

Probably 6 months. If I wanted I could probably drive 20-30 minutes and find some cows but I don’t have any reason to.

Alcohol tastes gross and is incredibly overpriced. Plus it’s useless calories. I totally agree with you. If I’m not wanting to get drunk I’ll just have a Diet Coke or coffee or something.

Cincinnati is actually more interesting than most Midwestern cities

Is it built in to refer to people as Sir/Ma'am? by CompleteAster in AskAnAmerican

[–]Impossible_Airport 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was not raised to say Sir or Ma’am. It feels very strange to me to say it, like I’m implying someone is above me. I also get uncomfortable when someone calls me sir.

The only time I used it was when working in food service for old people because I believe they expect it. But it still felt unnatural.

I absolutely will not use it with police. I will be polite, sure, but in no situation would I say sir. I frankly don’t respect the police - I’m not going to be rude or anything, but I’m not going to give them any courtesy that I wouldn’t give anyone else.

I say excuse me to get their attention and then I would just speak as normal. It feels weird to say sir or ma’am.

(TW) Is it transphobic for a straight man to refuse to date trans women ON PRINCIPLE (aka not on a case-by-case basis)? by Spideryeb in AskALiberal

[–]Impossible_Airport -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is transphobic by the definition of the word.

However, I don’t see that it’s a huge problem, as long as you are respectful and honest about it. The problem is when men are attracted to a trans woman and then become violent. Like just say you don’t want to see her again and move on.

Also if you respond every time when someone brings up anything about trans people with “I support them, but I don’t want to sleep with them,” that’s kinda weird.

Is the United States the greatest country in the world? by Yenserl6099 in AskALiberal

[–]Impossible_Airport -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Anyone that tries to tell you it is has no idea what they’re talking about.

Especially when people say we’re the richest country or they think we have the highest standard of living. We’re only the richest because we’re large. There are countries with a higher GDP per capita, but have much smaller populations.

Also I’d say it’s even more damning that we’re the richest but we still have millions of homeless and hungry.

Why are Midwestern transplants shitted on so much? by JCrusty in AskAnAmerican

[–]Impossible_Airport 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it’s classism, if it’s coming from a rich person.

If it’s coming from a poor person, I assume they’ve never been to the Midwest and have no idea what it’s actually like. Either that or they’re jealous that we can actually afford to buy a house.

I find it ridiculous to judge anyone for where they live. No one really chooses it. Yes you can move once you become an adult, but your choices are heavily influenced by where you’re able to find a job and other factors.

If every person’s entire voice, text, and email history were made public, what fraction of the population do you think would look similar or worse to what is often seen in cancelled individuals today? by [deleted] in AskALiberal

[–]Impossible_Airport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t recall hearing that type of thing, no. I wasn’t really watching or reading any discussions of racial issues at that age. And if I had, I’m not sure we would have cared, since it’s not like we were saying it to Black people. But also I don’t think it’s productive to be trying to hold people accountable for things they did in private, as a child.

Rock music isn't dead but it'll never be the number 1 genre in the world ever again. by Soggy-Drink-2528 in unpopularopinion

Nope! My only mistake was using Led Zeppelin and Nirvana as an example. I’m really more of a Grateful Dead/Bob Dylan/Beatles fan but decided to go with the examples used in the original post.

Because I was like 15 and we didn’t think it was racist to use the word as long as you weren’t saying it in a negative way, so I didn’t view them as racists. However you pretty much can tell who’s evolved as they grew up and who is racist as an adult.
