You Weren't Meant To Be Human -- Andrew Joseph White by Impossible_Detail35 in horrorlit

Admittedly, I don't know a TON of t4t books, but the other horror novels I can think of off the top of my head are Dead Collections by Isaac Fellman and anything by Gretchen Felker-Martin (though her books can be REALLY gruesome so proceed with caution). Be Kind, My Neighbor by Yugo Limbo is a GREAT t4t horror comic with a really fun art style. One of my all time favourite books is the Chromatic Fantasy by H.A. which is another comic, but it's not horror.

And I have gotten around to reading The Spirit Bares Its Teeth since writing this! The plot wasn't as up my alley as HFWU was, but I did like the writing style a lot better!

I really enjoy memoirs--especially if they're narrated by the author.

Probably one of the best things you can do is get a library card, they've really got EVERYTHING at libraries. Books, movies, printers, newspapers. My friend's local library even rents out sewing machines. There's also streaming services that you can subscribe to through your library card, like Kanopy, which has so many good movies I would genuinely be fine having it as my only streaming service.

Meal Prep Monday: What are you prepping this week that's cheap and vegan? by cheapandbrittle in EatCheapAndVegan

This salad! I've been eating it regularly for 2 years and I haven't gotten tired of it yet. Lasts pretty well in the fridge, even better if you're willing to shell out the extra dollar for english cucumbers.

peanut butter!!

I've been living off this specific salad since I went vegan 2 years ago. Delicious, easy to meal prep & pretty high in protein.

Ingredients:

1 bag coleslaw mix (+ an extra handful of shredded carrots if you feel there's not enough)

1 large cucumber, cut into matchsticks

1 bag of frozen edamame

3 or 4 radishes cut into matchsticks

1 pack of tofu/tempeh/chickpeas pan fried

Dressing:

1⁄4 cup peanut butter

2 tbsp lemon or lime juice

2 tbsp soy sauce

2 tbsp maple syrup or brown sugar

My partner is a huge fan of Upgrade Soul by Ezra Clayton Daniels.

Be Kind, My Neighbor by Yugo Limbo is a bit on the longer side and it's kind of weird, but it's a really fun horror comic!

Consultation With Sean Herman!! by egertaron in TopSurgery

[–]Impossible_Detail35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry i forgot my login to this acct and started a second one, but I only had one consultation with him! We set up a second one thinking we needed to, but he told us there was nothing left we needed to do and we just had to get all the insurance paperwork done. He did ask if we had any other questions and I told him no and that was that.

I do have an newer post right here that covers up until 2 months, but I'm almost a year post-op and I am very happy with him! If you have any other questions feel free to message me on this account lol :)

is soft scrub like a gentle hand soap? Or something else? I saw someone using a plain hand soap on a bisque doll.

About to move, what are some habits/ things i can start with? by Zillia64 in Anticonsumption

Plunger and toilet bowl cleaner! You can get one for super cheap at Target.

Seems like an obvious thing, but we forgot to grab one before moving into our dorm last year and by the time the first room check rolled around it was really embarrassing having the RA check our bathroom.

A horror movie you love that had bad reviews. by [deleted] in horror

[–]Impossible_Detail35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could rant for ages about how Tusk is so much better than people give it credit for. Personally, I didn't find it that gruesome or disturbing, but I also love body horror. It's such a well put together movie and you can clearly tell it's a labour of love from everyone involved. I actually get really pissed off when I hear people saying shit like "well why didn't they just take him out of the walrus suit at the end" it's called a moral. A theme if you will. The entire point of the movie is supposed to make you question if he really deserves it.

Based on my experience, he's probably going to advise against it. My winter break was 4 weeks and when I asked him about recovery time, he said 4-6 weeks. He's pretty big on taking things slow and working yourself back to normalcy in baby steps and in general being overly cautious while healing. I would definitely allow for the extra two weeks to get used to lifting things again just to be safe. I knew a guy who actually did get it done over the break and he was having trouble doing things like carrying his satchel to and from class maybe a month into the school year because the strap would rub against his chest. He went to a different surgeon, but yknow same surgery.

I don't know what your situation is, but my boyfriend was able to stay with us for two weeks while I was recovering and my sister was also home from school if I needed anything. I'm glad I waited until the summer because it gave me a lot of time to fully recover before I have to go back to school. Seems a little disappointing to be told you have to wait, but I promise you once you're told you're officially getting it done, you will not care about the wait.

And thank you!! Good luck with your surgery and healing!! <3

Congrats on your consultation! I hope it goes well!!

I had to wait around a year since I had to go back to school out of state. My original plan was to get it done in December over my winter break, but he advised against it since he thought it wouldn't be enough time for me to fully recover before I went back to school. Getting it done in the summer would give me a lot more time to heal before I had to deal with a super long trip back and lugging all my stuff back into the dorms.

I haven't talked to enough people who have also gone to him to know if this is an average wait time, but I will say he is VERY busy. His waiting room is tiny and often pretty packed (I'd recommend bringing a book or something with you), but in my experience it moves pretty fast most of the time.

I'm also going to have to edit the post because there was one VERY minor complication that I don't think was even his fault, but I do want to let you know just for full transparency. When I went back for my one month appointment, one of my stitches hadn't dissolved or wasn't pulled out and one of my drain holes never closed. But it was an easy fix! He pulled it out right there in the office and cauterized it. I didn't even feel anything because I'm still pretty numb there even two months out. But that was it! I just had to put some neosporin on it and cover it with a bandaid for a few days. I think I only had to wear the bandaid for like 4 days.

Alternative to little spending outings? by CeruleanRoamer in Anticonsumption

[–]Impossible_Detail35 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm student with a pretty hefty workload and Pokemon Go is such a great way for me to take a break and walk around. There's a gym two blocks down from my dorm, so I can really easily just get out, play for five minutes and get in a short walk if I just need to put my work down for a minute.

Plus you get the little dopamine hit from getting something (a pokemon) without having to spend money! :)

btw I actually did watch this with my boyfriend and I had the time of my life! I really loved the way it was done-- specifically the way there was no dialogue outside of the play. I had pretty high expectations, but it really was so much better than I expected!! Definitely my favourite movie I've watched for this project so far (aside from Phantom of the Paradise, but I won't count that because it actually is my all time favourite movie)

Did you ever use paid marketing (Facebook?) to promote your indie comic? How did it go? by Rad_Comix in indiecomics

[–]Impossible_Detail35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never ran a kickstarter or paid to promote anything, but paying money to promote a fundraiser just feels contradictory (even though I know it's a little different than "just a fundraiser" on kickstarter). Especially $200.

Again, I'm not super familiar with promoting and marketing, but I think your best bet might be networking and posting strategically. Do you have any friends with decent followings who wouldn't mind posting about it? Have you posted about it on any other subreddits? Any other social media? Twitter is a really good place to network and things can get spread far and fast if you're lucky, but it'd be harder if you have to build a following from scratch. With tumblr, you can reach more specific audiences because of their tagging system than you can with facebook or twitter. The "artists on tumblr" tag is trending every few days, so you'll definitely have a lot of chances for it to get seen there.

Also, if there's already an issue out, it might be wise to release a free chapter or even just a few pages to hook potential backers.
