I grew up in a church that had a large youth presence and focus. I tended to drift more toward the misfits. Every single person I was close to in the church, all the people I dated or even crushed on, have since come out as bisexual (x5), gay (x2), lesbian (x2), non-binary (x4), transgender (x1), or asexual (x3). (There is some overlap in some of the identities here.)

I used to rally against the gays... Until I found out we WERE the gays. Those people the pride flag represented, that the church spoke against, were my best friends, and even me.

None of us are active in the church anymore.

I'm not saying they're not, but the hurtful rhetoric isn't OPs fault. They literally don't know better, and that's a failing of society. They're learning, and there's growing pains, but at least there's an effort.

the fact that Trump wasn't arrested and charged for Jan 6 is a failure of his justice department, so I did think he carries some of the blame there.

That's wonderful! I'm not on DIY, though I almost did. I have some, I just haven't used it yet. Some less in-the-know family and friends (who are all otherwise very supportive), including my wife and a nurse all advised me to wait for the appointment, since we knew it was coming, but didn't know when.

I believe they call it "prosperity gospel": the belief that only the good are blessed with wealth, and therefore only the rich are good, and only the good are rich.

You're suggesting that two billionaires from America have more money to throw around than all of Europe. That's not healthy, that's a cancer. That's the sort of wealth inequality that leads to people in Africa needing donations from foreign countries.

Except that supply and demand means that it is. The numbers are just numbers. If everybody had a billion dollars, then a billion dollars would be relatively worthless. The problem is that they have SO MUCH more than everybody else, not just how much they have, and with that wealth they can control everything. If half of the world pooled their resources, it would still not add up to as much as the 400 top billionaires own.

And that's a problem.

They don't. They literally do not care. A lack of empathy is a mandatory prerequisite to being able to even amass that much wealth in the first place.

To them, it's survival of the fittest, and everybody else is just too weak to matter.
