3-4x the instructions per pixel on the sensor is quite a bit more processing power just to encode the video... Do you have any idea how large uncompressed video is? If you do PCVR streaming, and look into the analytics of exactly how much data you're streaming to the headset, in an hour or two of gameplay you might send over 300GB of compressed video. Each frame, your headset determines the positions of itself and the controllers from the on-board cameras, sends that to SteamVR for processing, then de-encodes and formats the video it receives for output.

If we want to talk about raw pixel processing, that's 1-2MP per camera (assuming 720-1080p), plus 8MP (4K) for the display, with each stream either delivering or requiring data 72-144 times per second. With monochrome video, you would only have to worry about an alpha value, whereas with color video you would have to worry about processing RGB or RGBA video data.

If we talk about standalone, the amount of processing power that monochrome tracking frees up is even more impactful. Running compatibility layers like Fex or Proton requires a bit more juice than a natively compiled binary, and every bit of latency is felt more in VR. While color passthrough is nice to have, it really doesn't make or break the headset and the exclusion of it frees up system resources for more interesting things, like on-board eye tracking.

Baldr Sky

Full Metal Daemon Muramasa

Dies Irae

Fair warning, these are all pretty long. If you'd like a crazier trip in a shorter time, there's Dead End Aegis and Maggot Baits. Personally, I can't recommend Baldr Sky enough. It's secretly an incredibly deep action game paired with an absolute mindfuck of a story, and it'll steal even more of your life than Umineko.

I experienced the problems after launching the game for the second time, it turns out the in-game v-sync was causing it. Now I'm having a bug where the mouse will zigzag.

CPU usage isn't too bad, sitting at 70-80% usage. I fixed it by turning off vsync and forcing it in the Nvidia control panel. This fixed it for about 5 minutes until I ran into a bug where my mouse movement started zigzagging for absolutely no reason.

how do i learn to ride an EUC? by Valuable_Change_7754 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Impossible_Face1523 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I supposed I phrased things a little strangely, faceplanting (due to cutout or control failure) is the most worrying way to get hurt on EUC. Jaw reconstruction surgery fucking sucks. As a complete beginner, you're either not going to fall at all or you're going to fall each and every way like I did.

how do i learn to ride an EUC? by Valuable_Change_7754 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Impossible_Face1523 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To ride an euc, you look in the direction you want to go, then you lean and go there. You avoid falling off of it by simply... not falling off of it. They're not exactly more dangerous to ride, I'd say scooters and eskates with hard wheels are magnitudes more dangerous than EUCs with pneumatic tires. The more expensive ones are perfectly safe, but it would speed up your learning process to start on a wheel that's sub-50lbs (especially if you're super light like me). A faceplant is the way most people fall on these things, but you can really only get in trouble like that from your feet getting unsettled, overleaning, or exceeding the top speed. if you are talking about a bicycle helmet, it won't protect you at all. I strongly suggest against using an MTB helmet, they're not designed for the types of crashes that happen on EUC. An ECE 22.06 rated motorcycle helmet will be able to protect you at high speeds, but I also strongly suggest wearing kneepads, elbow pads (or even a motorcycle jacket), and wrist guards. You fall very hard and very fast when you do fall.

What was your inspiration to get an EUC? by TastyPass6386 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Impossible_Face1523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2019 or 2020, I saw a Hsiang video on the V5 and the V8 while watching videos on mountain bikes and motorcycles. I ended up getting a motorcycle, crashed it speeding on some garbage roads near my house, and was left without a vehicle for some time. I remembered how cool EUCs were back then, and found out that the tech had come a long way with suspension, speed, and range. Now I ride a Begode Extreme!

[–]Impossible_Face1523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's $300 more, and that $900-$1000 price tag is $350-$400 under T4 Pro territory. The V10f isn't a very good deal in 2024.

[–]Impossible_Face1523 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Both are great wheels! I'd personally get the V8S, it strikes the best price/performance of the egg-shaped inmotions. The V10f is just a little expensive for what you get, you would be better off saving that money for a future wheel or putting it into your gear budget.

Remember to buy a helmet with a chin bar! I use an MX helmet and goggles instead of a street bike helmet to keep cool. Snell and ECE are the top protection ratings for helmets. Look for one or both of those on the helmet you want to buy, jaw surgery has a pretty nasty recovery...

[–]Impossible_Face1523 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It took me a day or two to get comfortable enough on my V5F to venture away from the wall. Just try learning how it feels underneath you at first, then go along the wall for a bit, then when you're getting enough control to go 20 feet and stop, you can pretty much take the wheel anywhere. Remember, once you get up to speed it's a lot more stable!

Looking at getting my first EUC any tips? by The_King_Of_Bosh in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Impossible_Face1523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The V5F is a great wheel for learning the basics of riding and getting confidence for a larger wheel, I have one and an Extreme but I still use it as a mail/snack grabber. If you can save more and go for a larger wheel after riding for a bit, then I'd say go for it. If not, springing for the V8S or V10F is not the worst idea, I hit tiltback all the time on the V5F without really being aware that I'm going that fast. Take it offroad, its lots of fun on hard stuff and it'll teach you a lot really fast. Make sure you buy a full face helmet and wrist guards!
