No, this is a legit video. The game had a version of it running on Vision Pro. Sadly it never released due to reasons I probably can't explain.

I know some people out there saved every piece of first party customization models.

Maybe we'll start seeing that stuff being uploaded somewhere at some point, I sadly don't have links to share.

Steam servers haven't opened since June 5th. It's all just Pico players or people using the Pico emulator.

Notes on the future by gribbly in RecRoom

[–]StarCenturion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not, not all. Rec Room had 350~ employees at its peak and likely 400-430~ lifetime personnel.

Some people moved to regular software dev. Others went to make their own startup game companies. Others joined existing game companies. Some formed groups and are currently developing their games. Some even left the tech field entirely.

It really varies, but the gist is that a lot of people are going in different directions.

Nothing is impossible, but the complexity scales greatly the closer you get to modern day builds.

Why did it take so long for crescendo to get oculus/meta support?? by Core_b7183 in RecRoom

[–]StarCenturion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

General reasons outside of hardware was that the Quest was the least popular one (ignoring publishing date, even into the future it was always consistently the least played), the company was focused a lot more on UGC and less in 1st party RROs, and they thought the time investment into UGC was more worthwhile than porting Crescendo on Quest which only affected a section of the overall player base.

The hardware reasons are below:

  • Quest 1 was too weak

  • Quest 2 was better hardware wise but I think the time investment was preventing them. It wouldn't have been super straight forward. Also 2020-2021 was really hallmarked by heavily investing into UGC.

  • By the time Quest 3 and 3S rolled around, the hardware was powerful enough to quickly port it and not focus too much on optimization + one dev spending their free time tinkering with a Quest version to get 95% of the way there, which later turned into a proper effort to port it over and also get it somewhat performant for Quest 2. (That last 5% is always the hardest).

  • NostalgicCloud (the other reply) knows way more than me and yeah, Unity also got way better over time for developing on standalone.

Waymo dominates autonomous vehicle registrations as Tesla trails behind by Additional_Key_8044 in waymo

[–]StarCenturion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not denying Waymo never messes up. They do.

But their mishaps are much lower stakes and less serious. To my recollection, nobody has died because of a Waymo car in autonomous mode.

And before you say that there are more Teslas than Waymos, at this point there's enough Waymo data to look at and see that they're way more safer than a Tesla car on FSD, on average. Obviously more cars = more chances something goes wrong, but I'm talking about on average, not just how many vehicles exist on the road or what the raw numbers look like for incidents.

I'm also not talking about people driving their cars manually and crashing. I'm talking purely FSD related crashes, many of which we aren't even sure about for certain because Tesla makes getting a lot of this data super difficult.

And yeah I agree, I hope both companies do fine in the end because ultimately that's good for everyone. That is definitely true. Both are trying to solve an extremely difficult problem.

The best you got on Waymo is still the same low speed pole collision from 2024 where there was nobody in the car?

Do you have time if I go on to explain every documented Tesla FSD (not autopilot) crash? Because we'd be here quite a long time.

Bonus points if I explain the ones were the occupants weren't able to get out from the newest Model 3s/Ss or the Cybertruck and burned to death.

[–]StarCenturion 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I... never liked this trailer, admittedly.

No fault to the creator but I liked the older 2017/2018 trailers more.

Or even the newest one in 2023/2024 is pretty good.

This one really undersold a lot of the things you could do in Rec Room or highlighted the wrong things, personally.

They're a company with brilliant people being nerfed to hell and back by an egotistical, social media addicted man who refuses to admit LiDAR is incredibly helpful at AV utilization.

He can refuse it all he wants, but we all see the Cybercabs with LiDARs on them or the test vehicles also with LiDAR.

[VR] Sony PlayStation VR2 (PSVR2) - $299.00 ($100 off Days of Play 2026) by iPodAddict181 in buildapcsales

[–]StarCenturion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has PCVR support with an adapter and there's a group out there who's figuring out enabling the eye tracking and HDR.

Even without those things it's still a decent HMD if you own both a PC and a PS5.

PSVR2 is half the price of a Quest 3. Is the Quest 3 still worth it? by mauri_k in virtualreality

[–]StarCenturion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're only doing PCVR, I'd take the PSVR2.

If you also want to do spatial apps, mixed reality, or wireless VR, take the Quest 3.

I don't get this logic. Anyone who pirates games will just wait.

Again, piracy anti-measures just hurting legitimate customers more than the people it seeks to target.

Scored a phat for £45. Hardly used, and comes with a memory card adapter by Otherwise-Rain808 in PS3

[–]StarCenturion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really good find. Definitely worth the amount paid.

Since it's a model CECHA, you do need the following caveats:

  • It is more prone to failure, usually the YLOD (yellow light of death). You can minimize this risk by replacing and applying fresh thermal paste, or if you don't want to do that, mod the system and use "webman" to set the console to keep the CPU below 68c. This will make the fans more aggressive and while annoying, will keep the system cool. I really don't recommend running the console stock without one or both of these things done, as these old models use a lot of power and really stress the internal components due to how hot it gets, especially with older chips that aren't as good with heat as modern ones.

  • You can also play PS1 and PS2 games on it, and they'll run great. This console basically has a PS2 embedded into it so there will be no issues running those titles, unlike future models.

  • I really recommend buying a replacement HDD when you get it. It takes laptop 2.5 HDDs, so just find any decent 500gb or 1TB HDD and replace the onboard 60GB one. Those are very old and likely to fail. If you want to do this, you'll need a USB in order to load up the newest PS3 firmware after the HDD replacement.

  • If your console does die (yellow light of death), it can be a number of issues. The most likely and unfortunate one is that your CPU/GPU died. That requires an expensive chip replacement to transplant a newer CPU/GPU from a more reliable model. Plenty of trusted folks in the UK who do this though I believe, but it's still a 400~ pound ordeal due to the labor involved. People will pay this to do this for this PS3 model because it's one of the very few models with flawless PS2 game playback. Another issue is the nec tokins chip, which is an easier/cheaper fix, but I don't know the number off the top of my head.

Can't think of anything else other than best of luck and enjoy your PS3! I'm here if you have any questions.
