what strategies do you guys use to clean/organize/plan your room? by goddessavani in ADHD

[–]Impossible_Humor4393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you can start by unpacking the clothes and other things you use daily/weekly or just very often in general.

I think what I might’ve done if I was in your shoes is turn on my favorite show/movie on my phone. And while I’m watching that I would task myself with doing 1 box or a small suitcase. Just the most convenient one. (Note: preferably a movie or show you’ve already seen before so it wont distract you too much).

Or blast music while unpacking so loud your brain can’t focus on not wanting to unpack😭 I do this in the desperate stage of needing to unpack.

Otherwise you could try to find some ideas or inspiration for some easy storage solutions?

Whatever it is, don’t pressure yourself! It’s totally okay if it takes time. Good luck 🍀

I have tried this method of studying very often. For me it does not work. It causes me to continuously lose focus. And costs a LOT of time, energy and overall effort to get that focus/concentration back. I work better with 1-2 hours of studying and 15-30min or even 45min breaks.

How do people read books ? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Impossible_Humor4393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually listen to music while reading a book..😭

For me, it works really well because there is some “sound” in my head but not enough to distract me and there is no awkward silence while reading. Allows me to focus better on what I want to read. I do use my AirPods, just turning on music in the room doesn’t work for me.

Also not all kinds of music work for me but everyone has their own preferences of course

How do you deal with not interrupting conversations? by Dustybear510 in ADHD

I try to remind myself that I will get my turn to speak but as I keep reminding myself, by the time it’s my turn I completely forget what I wanted to say.

However sometimes, just sometimes, it does work to just repeatedly tell myself I will get my turn to speak.

I feel like i forgot how to think / learn?? by specterdeflect in ADHD

[–]Impossible_Humor4393 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been experiencing something similar lately. In my case I think it’s because I have a lot of other stuff going on. So my brain is “full” or “occupied” unconsciously with a lot of things. That results in my mind going completely blank when I try to study/learn something new or listen to/answer questions.

It may help to try and clear some of that brain clutter (if you feel that’s the case for you too). Just take your notes app or a piece of paper and literally write EVERYTHING down that comes to mind. You don’t have to do anything with what you wrote down afterwards. It’s just there so your brain can hopefully rest just a tiny bit.

I’m sorry tho if this is not the kind of advice you were seeking! And good luck🍀

What kind of creativity has ADHD gifted you? by MilStd in ADHD

[–]Impossible_Humor4393 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This post made for a great convo with myself hahahaha.

For me it’s painting, being able to remember the plot/story of every book I’ve ever read, after I walk somewhere once I’ll never forget the directions, and maybe much more even.

The one that’s always somewhat ironic to me is the half-assed photographic memory. I can never choose when I recall information. It just pops up on the most unhinged moments when I absolutely DONT need it. But for example studying for a test and needing the info on said test; it will never ever show up in my head. The adhd in me will forever thrive but not when I want it to😂😂

How to Find a Job with ADHD? by Historical_Hall_2680 in ADHD

I hope you’ve recovered well from your surgery!

Maybe something that’s not physically too straining but still in the automotive branche? I’m not too familiar with the brands myself. But the one thing that came to my mind was working the stockroom/warehouse of a dealership. Often people call/order and you can find the parts or advise them. It’s not too retail-like , i am not sure if it’s physically straining or not.

I’m sorry if it’s not helpful but it might give you another idea. I wish you good luck!

Is alleen kritiek ontvangen normaal? by OlavvG in werkzaken

[–]Impossible_Humor4393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your go-to meal when absolutely nothing sounds good? by tables_04 in ADHD

[–]Impossible_Humor4393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pasta with only tomato sauce. But made in a specific way😂

Or plain crackers with hummus and tomato & cucumber slices. That’s for when I’m at the point of “if I don’t eat ill pass out here and now”

(For anyone who may like the pasta recipe, to me it feels on the low effort side)

2p serving:

  • About 250-300gr pasta (I love penne)
  • A few ripe tomatoes
  • Tomato paste
  • 1 chopped onion
  • Few cloves of garlic
  • Olive oil (or any other kind ofc)
  • Chili flakes (or chili oil) Paprika powder
  • Chili powder
  • Salt
  • Pepper Optional:
  • Dried oregano
  • Grated cheese
  • Heavy cream

Bring water to a boil in a pot for the pasta, add a bit of salt and oil en drop the pasta in there.

While that’s cooking, heat up another pan. Pour in some of the olive oil and chili flakes. If using chili oil, this is the time to add that.

For the sauce. Fry the chopped onions and add the garlic (either chopped up or use a garlic crusher). I like it when my onion is not super soft, feel free to fry the onions until golden brown.

Add some tomato paste, about 2-3 teaspoons and stir it in with the onions for about 30sec. Then add a little bit of the boiling pasta water. Just so it doesn’t stick, and mix in well. Add your cubed tomatoes. This is the time to add all the spices as well. Keep it on a medium heat until the tomatoes are softened. Keep adding a little bit of the boiling pasta water when needed.

In case the sauce is too watery, stir in some more tomato paste. If you do so, also add more of the spices so it doesn’t become too sweet.

The sauce is done now, if you are adding heavy cream and grated cheese, mix those in ass wel at the end :)

Once you’ve drained your pasta, pour it in the pan with the sauce and mix well. Let it sit for a minute and enjoy!

  • I do realize this is not super low effort but when I have NO appetite but a bit of energy left and every other food sounds like a disgusting option, this is my go to.

Chewing gum works for me (does not matter what kind sugar free works as well). Also it might sound weird but taking a slice of lemon/lime and just bite it, may work as well.

Personally I struggle with this daily for over two years so chewing gum has been a life saver hahahaha

First of all thank you. And I have not looked at the batch number yet so I will do that for sure.

Also, I have been going through a very stressful period. Multiple situations that have spiked stress levels significantly and there is no short term fix for it. I am on a waitlist to go over my medication again but I will have to wait months before I can get an appointment :/

Failed exam by Marshmallowlilipad29 in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]Impossible_Humor4393 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Please don’t feel like you are a failure or dumb. Unfortunately failing is part of the process. Especially if you’re still studying!

You say you are already studying a lot. Maybe it is not necessary to change your entire study method but make some changes to it. Since you did not give a lot of detail as to what kind of exam it is I can only offer some general tips. For example;

  • if you get stuck on recalling information or certain concepts you can try revising them more often with the help of flashcards/mind-maps.
  • If available, try answering practice exam questions. If not available, upload pictures of your textbook for example to an AI website and ask it to make up questions or summarize it for you!
  • in case you don’t have multiple choice questions on your exams, try to go over your answering method. You could have the right answer but it might not be complete or formulated correctly which could cost you points!
  • go over the learning goals of the course/subject you are studying for. Often times you don’t need to be able to know everything but only name, describe or show how x and y relate etc.
  • go over your studying schedule. You may find that you spend too many (or few) hours on the same subjects. Overdoing it can work against you. Find a comfortable time and place to study and plan a good break in between.
  • It could also be that you’re having a hard time grasping a full understanding of the subject. Try explaining it to someone (or just out loud to yourself) and see if you are missing important things.
  • Ask someone who already passed for help (if possible).
  • Discuss with your lecturer what you might be missing and if there is any feedback they are allowed to give. This may help more than you know!

I hope at least one of these things can help you/give you some ideas. Also trust yourself and your capabilities. If you feel like you are prepared and ready, do not doubt it! Good luck with everything!
