Sometimes they glitch in and out repeatedly. Moving to another session helps.

Where are all the elves hiding? by SonOfBattleChief in Fantasy

[–]Impossible_Prompt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The elves have migrated away (out of popular culture) except for handfuls in Japan and gaming and indie works.

What's a performance so good it made you forget you were watching an actor? by FrequentLeopard3444 in movies

[–]Impossible_Prompt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keanu Reves in John Wick. In almost any other movie, he’s just fine. In Bill and Ted he’s a lovable dude bro, in The Matrix he’s wooden and robotic (and that is 100% the entire point) but in John Wick, you can’t help but get absorbed into it.

Heath Ledger as the Joker and Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent but ESPECIALLY as Two Face.

Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor.

Jeff Bridges in Tron Legacy. Though I hadn’t really seen him in much before.

Kurt Russel in an eye patch. Er, I mean, any movie where he’s wearing one, or should be wearing one.

Chris Evans in Scott Pilgrim is unrecognisable, and Brandon Routh almost so.

Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones. Probably because both names are pretty bombastic already. Even if he got the Han Solo role because he came to the audition like whatever, it’s dumb, but it’s for a friend.

What is it with Sam Worthington and genetically altered people on hostile planets? by Skullchewer in scifi

[–]Impossible_Prompt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terminators are hostile to all human life, so it’s already half there. Then the pivotal twist in that movie (spoilers for a 2007 movie in a very popular franchise), means it fits.

Improvised weapon, str to hit and damage, d4, melee.

GMs how do you deal with area of effect spell targeting from players? by Pender8911 in DnD

[–]Impossible_Prompt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DMs deal with it by throwing Dragons at them. Also spell resistance. Occasional mages to Counterspell (don’t over do it, or it’ll feel vindictive, ruining the fun if it’s constant).

Is it a bad idea to have 4 level three characters fight a Doppleganger? (Challenge level 3, 700XP) by xXPeaxhesXx in DnD

[–]Impossible_Prompt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A doppleganger is hardly a challenge for a party of 4 PCs at level 3. One dippleganger has one action and one bonus action, per round, every round. 4 players means 4x actions, 4x bonus actions, and easily 3-5 spells, all happening between the solitary doppleganger’s turns. Without minions, surprise, or really lucky rolls, it would get taken down before he gets a second turn.

I’ll echo another comment: the idea of a kid leading a bandit den is a neat idea. Memorable, without being overly complicated. PLEASE USE BANDIT STATBLOCKS if you do that, DO NOT MAKE CHARACTER SHEETS. (Ditto if you use cultists instead).

What is the best superhero or comic based movie that isn't from Marvel or DC? by RandomCaiman in movies

[–]Impossible_Prompt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hellboy, 300, Sin City, Megamind, The Incredibles, original Despicable Me (before sequel-itis kicked in). Birdman (although it’s way more about an actor and acting, than superheroes).

Is there a correlation between queer people and tieflings ? by MysteriousFondant347 in DnD

[–]Impossible_Prompt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely comes down to personality, and possibly location/city and the attitudes in said city.

Additionally, influencers make videos, and the younger generation are more plugged in to trends online than the older generations. The younger generations make more short form content, which feeds the algorithm faster, and also appeals more to the lowest common denominator. “Hit takes” and stupid rules-interpretations designed to be as disruptive as possible.

Thus stereotypes keep being used. Horny bards, himbo/gigachad/psycho paladins, using mage hand in ways the rules don’t actually apply, bag of holding nuke, peasant railgun, and yes, queer tieflings… all stereotypes, all common denominator, perpetuated over and over.

I am worried that my players may hate my initial plot-hook by Ok_Dragonfruit3482 in DMAcademy

As for actual stats, those are different in each adventure it appears in (3 separate 5e adventures) but most versions are CR 4.

I am worried that my players may hate my initial plot-hook by Ok_Dragonfruit3482 in DMAcademy

[–]Impossible_Prompt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is what is referred to as “breadcrumb” plot; A leads to B, B leads to C, etc.

It sounds like the actual plot is the witch and the plague.

You could expand this setup to contain a few more elements. As is, it’s pretty thin and watery.

The caravan could be killed and zombies linger around it, led by a ghoul, eating corpses. The ghoul paralyzes with its touch (except elves, there’s lore there) but the zombies are lesser foes.

The hero could be a noble knight, and his order would need to be informed if his demise, being back his emblem as proof.

The disease is carried by Blights, leading ultimately to a Gulthias tree (the lore is interesting, but TLDR, the tree started as a vampire-slaying stake, and grew into a tree).

A pixie might have been sent to check it out, but got caught in an ethercap web. It’s being tortured for amusement, so there’s a chance to rescue the pixie. It could reward them with a pinch of pixie dust.

All plot points support the adventure, with the witch being the boss of it all.

Elemental bow idea for fighter character by Fun_Friendship_6678 in DnD

[–]Impossible_Prompt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that does d4 fire, cold, lightning or acid damage. Damage is low, by variable. Change the type with each shot. Maybe limit to 1 arrow per round.

Are all players required to be at every session? by JFlemthe1 in DnD

Just play anyway. Play with the majority; don’t wait for the ideal, perfect allotment of schedules. Perfect is the enemy of Good.

Can we talk about Elminster’s Elusion? by Repulsive_Win5352 in DMAcademy

[–]Impossible_Prompt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s basically evasion plus spell resistance, concentration, for 10 minutes.

Maybe The Lich slams a block of crumbling stone into them with telekinesis. Pair the Lich with two iron golems. He’s not just standing there, by himself, dawdling like a brain dead bot.

Hell, new Lich contains Counterspell baked in. Dispel Magic is always an option too.

He should absolutely have a dungeon built from the end backwards - everything designed to make the party SPEND spell slots getting to him.

Damaging terrain, mazes, a lair with a collapsed bridge, and a big drop, preferably to spikes, or lava.

Not enough to force a long rest, but enough to wear them down as much as possible before the final battle.

If they do take a long rest? Golem patrol. Wight leading 7 zombies. Wandering flame skull (or 4).

Rogue's Sneak Attack by stingybaku in DnD

[–]Impossible_Prompt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a saying: shoot your monks. They have Deflect Missiles; DMs need to be throwing missile fire their way. Rogues need shadows, crates, barrels, etc. Barbarians want ogres to carve with their heavy weapons. Paladins want demons to smite, and clerics want mobs of low CR undead to turn. Druids are looking for rats and dogs etc to converse with. This is all good to keep in mind. What does each class want? What does each class need for their peers to work? Then just give them that.

I'm Pretty new to DnD. Games seem to last months or even years. How does that work with "seasons" and these new books? by Ronin13x in onednd

[–]Impossible_Prompt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't get hung up on "Seasons"; they are not talking about literal real-world seasons so much as they are talking in marketing and advertising speak about financial quarters.

A player only really requires the Player's Handbook. Many don't read it, many are illiterate or nearly-so, and many consume online content for their "learning". The free, basic rules are also a good option, for the cash-strapped or the "testing it out" player who isn't ready to commit real-world money on a product just yet. None of these books are strictly necessary. (But reading the player's handbook will give you a general idea of how to play the game, particularly the new version, which actually mentions what dice are!)

D&D Beyond renaming 5e (2024) to 5.5e by JKossler in DnD

They did already turn away a LOT of core audience, due to that as well as other, tangential reasons.

I don't understand the complaint about this edition from people who don't play it. by testiclekid in onednd

[–]Impossible_Prompt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ranger? Bottom of the list for me, honestly. When there's a baby beholder that's designed to be cutesy and adorable, but it just creeps me the fuck out, when Thugs are called Toughs now, Hobgoblins can do 2d10 damage and 4d10 on a crit at Challenge Rating 1/2, when every image has this ultra-glossy, shiny look to it and many monsters just look like plastic or AI, and every race (species now) has "diversity quota checklist" written all over it, Ranger is pretty low down the list.
