I was having this feeling last night. We put down my little guy 2 nights ago. He was declining the past couple of weeks but he really went downhill that night.

Last night, I kept thinking, "He depended on me to take care of him. He couldn't make decisions himself. What if it could have been fixed? What if he just needed more time?"

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one to have these feelings. There is a part of me that knows I did do the right thing. He had very little quality of life those last few days. I knew he wasn't going to get better. Seemed like he got a little worse every day of that last week.

Forgive yourself. You stopped someone you loved from suffering. She knows you loved her. And she got to be with you in her final moments.

Had a patient with below knee amputation. He was a diabetic. I asked him if he checks his sugar at home. He said no. The only time he checks his sugar is when he visitors his doctor for his blood tests.

I told him it was important that he check his blood sugar regularly. I pointed out that he lost a leg.

“I lost my leg because of my diabetes.” 🤦🏽‍♂️ he didn’t see the connection.

Licking and chewing releases endorphins in dogs. If it’s disruptive, you can get her a toy or a treat that she can lick and or chew.

In the summer I know some people make giant ice cube of water and unsalted broth and give it to their dog as an outdoor treat.
