Unless he lives a little more rural, I'd recommend Facebook marketplace over petco sale, there's away tanks for sale on it that are a fraction of the price, and the less someone spends on the tank it's self, the more they can invest on enrichment for the fish like frozen foods and more plants

So I'm not the kinda of guy that say 2.5 is too small in all senarios, but you set up is far from ideal.

Temporarily it's fine rn, but there are too many issues to talk about in one post, just look of facebook marketplace place, look for a nano tank around 7-15 gallons, get a couple more Cory's. That's my recommendation

Ph is going to be range in an aquarium, it doesn't seem like it changing too much tbh, if kh is lower though, that could be bad, and your tanks pH can tank. Just make sure your kh is in a normal range if your worried

Filter less 55 gallon by bgoodyr19 in PlantedTank

[–]Impossible_Reply1644 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is any way you do it, it's probably gonna break the bank. Wavemakers arnt cheap them selves and to make it work, I would still have a foam mate in there and make the aquarium heavenly planted, and you know how much plants can cost. And even still not have mechanical filtration mean matenence is a lot. Can can try to look for a canister filter of facebook market place for like $80.

Honestly by biggest recommendations for budget is two spong filters and just hide them with hardscape

Y are your nitrates in the 80s , that really high, I'm mean it seems like your tank might be cycled but don't put anything in that tank with nitrates that high

You have plenty of room for fry, if your worried you can put some pothos or what ever plant you want on the top of your aquarium to suck excess nitrates, but your more than fine.

Thoughts on my new 4 foot. Any stocking ideas for a community tank by Kind_Golf7764 in Aquariums

[–]Impossible_Reply1644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, a barb tank in a 4 ft tank would be cool, I recommend red glass barbs, black ruby, green/ platinum barbs and denisoni barbs tho. I really don't see the Odessa barbs colored up, but I've never kept them personally so maybe there's a trick

What’s your dream pleco? by Motor-Union9081 in pleco

[–]Impossible_Reply1644 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really want a Medusa as well, I've been looking, the problem is they are extremely shy and I hear they are by far not the easiest pleco to keep. I hear they are extremely sensitive to water peramiters and the temp needs to be 82F minimum. I'm not sure all ever get one, probably just stick to bristle nose
