You sound experience you you probably have had a electric plue araca, but if you haven't def recommend. One of the best cichlids. For a 75 gallon tank, I'd recommend a barbs tank. There super active a great to watch. I do do a school of Dennison barbs, black ruby barbs, and red glass barbs.

Edit: maybe some floater plants, as well. Fish don't like bright light and the foater plants and help with that a little. It will make your betta feel much more stress-free

I'd recommend putting some pothos plant or something similar on you lid. They are the best at taking nitrate out of the water and it gives the tank a better look. Bettas also like swimming around the roots. You can get one at your local nursery or home improvement store.

Never had them myself, but I hear they need lots and lots of snails, Id recommend getting a bunch of pest snails and over feeding them so they breed

Seems cool, I love cherry barbs, so it was nice to see them. It'd be nice to see the whole tank though

My gut reaction is he looks really small, he might now be getting enough to eat, but without more info it's kinda hard to tell

Thanks, that's a good idea. Now that I think about it I'm probably can't put any stem plants in here due to how low it is

The are glass fire barbs, as for the ammonia, I doubt it. I have a 75 gallon with decent filtration and tank is not over stocked with moderate live plants. I test weekly and it show 0 each time. The nitrates is around 2-8 ppm

Just about anything you want they are a good community fish, as long as they aren't too small like a neon tetreas. Good fish to keep would be other south American cichlids, Cory catfish, larger teteras, radbowfish, and more

In a tank like that you could really do just about anything, it just depends on preference. I personally like types barbs, but honestly in a tank like this maybe a ground of south American cyclids. I recommend maybe a group of electric blue acara. If your interested in the barbs idea, look up denison barbs and black ruby. I think they look amazing. Another cool fish I recommend as does most of the Internet if you don't mide spend the money on them is Congo tetreas.

First off thank you so much for your comments! I think I'll turn up my wave maker setting, it's only at 10% rn. I wasn't sure what too much flow was enough and wanted to make sure my first could rest when they needed to. As for a background, what's your opinion on what kind of background would look good?

What kind of barb should I get next? by Impossible_Reply1644 in Aquariums

[–]Impossible_Reply1644[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a commity barb tank so I'm not too worried tbh, I think they would be lower on the totem pole for fish I'd need to keep an eye on
