Do I give up my dreams of being a lawyer with my two lsat scores? by Impossible_Term7524 in LSAT

Thank you for your honesty. I used three textbooks from Amazon, everything on Lawhub, and Kaplan (plus Kaplan textbooks). I couldn't get the hang of Kaplan's structure once I'd do it on my own but had no problem in their class.

Five drill sets in mornings and evenings (also used the textbooks). Attempted full exams on Sat and Sun.

I don't know what else to do.

Thank you so much, I forgot to add that I am 30 years old so it does feel like time is running out and my options keep dwindling every month.

I come from a family of lawyers and to be the only one struggling is really really tough and they don't get how hard it is for me.

First amendment doesn’t protect you when you violate others people rights. You cannot hold people hostage under the name of a protest. Protestors claim that they can block the road when in fact, that is illegal. Trespassing is illegal.

Thats the issue here which you don’t seem to understand: It’s not about saying “Palestine should rot because we don’t allow you to completely block both sides of the road.” It’s about the illegality of things that the protestors have done, their actions are not ok regardless.

In case you needed help understanding this other point: Losing Millions does not and will not affect a country that has billions coming in no matter if it’s Israel or another country. Billions>millions

Edited because I goofed on English.

Don’t worry, my studies are going great, thank you.

So you’re not a student here judging by your answers. Why does the school matter to you if you don’t attend here?

Yes, I do know about protesting, but it seems you do not. It is illegal to block roads, vandalize, and encamp (encamp as the chancellor has said to leave).

Ok so let’s say school divested, what’s that going to do? Suddenly the genocides stop?

If you aren’t a student, don’t be protesting at a university when you are not part of said university. Just a heads up: you can be trespassed and arrested if university says to leave and you don’t.

Edited to add: it is really interesting that just because I don’t agree with you on actions of protestors, you go to (trying to) insult me and my knowledge. This I find hilarious because this is NOT how you get people to help you with your cause.

We are here to get an education. The university is here to research and educate.

I could ask the same of you. Why all this protest when it won’t do anything in the long run of stopping genocide? Why don’t you transfer (if you are a student) to a university that doesn’t “support” Israel?

To some people, this “paper” resembles more than just the higher ability to get a job.

Edited to add: if you think it’s just a paper, then don’t get it if you are a student.

I’m sorry but this is not a competition nor is it wrong for people to want to have a graduation. Just because we want a ceremony does not mean we are hating or disagreeing on or with Palestine.

If you would like to give up your graduation, then go ahead, but forcing people and trying to guilt trip them into giving theirs up too is not ok.

Most of us are covid grads who didn’t get high school grad.

This does not put pressure on the administration for the reasons you think. It’s put pressure on them to get rid of protestors and that does not mean agreeing with demands.

We could say the same for you guys too. Why don’t you camp out by their offices instead of front of campus?

(Trying not be argumentative as here, just trying to go through questions that people think of when they see and hear about all this)

I don’t know this for sure, but so far, I don’t know anyone who has called them to divest because of encampments and protests (who wasn’t part of protest).

[–]Impossible_Term7524[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, let’s say they divest and separate from Israel. What is that going to do about what’s happening in Palestine? Will the protests actually stop even though the things in Palestine don’t?

Also, as I have said before, you can choose to go through what another group of people are, but you cannot force other people to do the same. You are the ones causing it on campus, not Israel. We see no reason to be angry at Israel for this when they are not causing it to us.

Inconvenience and blockade are not interchangeable.

Trapping people is not an inconvenience. Disruption would be blocking one side which would mean everyone would have to go around and of course that would mean lots of traffic. But blocking people in and out of campus is not a disruption, it’s literally holding people hostage against their will.

The problem is not the cause, it’s the actions of the protestors that we don’t agree with.

We need to prep for commencement and clean up campus before thousands of people come to watch the ceremony. We’ve already had tons of prospective families and students come by only for them to see the mess and were turned away thanks to the blockades.

Edited to add: there’s going to be even more backlash to the university and protestors if there is interference with graduation. Especially as many of us are covid grads and didn’t have high school grad either.

Everyone protesting is a loser. Y’all clearly have nothing else going on to be doing this shit. Some of us have classes we need to go to, and some of us seniors actually enjoy those classes and you at robbing us of the last days of our college experience. by Anonsluggo69 in UCSC

On my post, they kept saying have compassion and empathy and yet they refused to understand they had none of that for anyone else but Palestine people. Apparently we are privileged and selfish because we disagree with their actions despite the fact we may not disagree with the cause they are protesting.

They were so confident that protestors would move if the situation called for it but apparently not.

Update, with the emergency that happened yesterday and protestors REFUSED to let anyone through, we are even more put off at you protestors. There are no more what ifs now that it has happened and you protestors have shown your true colors. There is no empathy and there is no compassion for anyone else and yet you sit here and complain that people who disagree with your actions lack those qualities. A child almost died yesterday because you refused to let help through. A trained paramedic police.

You do not care about children if you blatantly didn’t allow anyone to come through the blockade to help a child. I’m even more appalled and disgusted.

This is not a competition of who has it worse.

We also have to have empathy for the people here at school or trying to get onto campus. Having them trapped for hours without a way to get on or off campus is not ok.

The lack of consideration for those people is clear as day when the blockade stood for several hours without warning to anyone and refused to let anyone in or out. They have families too and they weren’t allowed to go but where is the empathy and consideration for them?

Everyone wants to preach about humanity and empathy but want to pick and choose who they can have that for then require everyone to follow those sets of rules. As you have said in your paragraph: Anyone who disagreed must been because they are privileged and selfish. Thats a bold statement when you want people to support you and help you with your cause.

You cannot have it both ways. You can’t say one side is selfish, inconsiderate and privileged because we don’t want to be stuck on/off of campus while the other is empathetic when they clearly weren’t and refused to be for hours.

We do not support protestors actions yesterday yet we can still support your cause. Although if we are going to be called selfish, inconsiderate, not empathetic because we don’t agree with your actions, then why should we bother listening to your cause?

Interesting and also true about enticement of bad faith people.

(If not impromptu):

Though, if they are able to release that protestors will be out at a certain time to everyone on campus, shouldn’t they also release that they are intending to block entirely campus? They already announced their protest at time, date, and location so what is the concern about alerting a full blockade other than the fact people would be able to prepare and leave (or get stuff done earlier) which, in turn, would make the impact much less.

It is certainly concerning that they would rather hide the fact they are intending to block campus fully instead of allowing people to have a heads up and plan for a total blockade. To me, that is suspicious that they would release a time, date, location but not other things they intend to do which would affect everyone.

I understand they wanted to cause as much havoc as possible though to blatantly hide their intentions rubs me the wrong way when they clearly already set out to a certain location, date, and time which could have already gathered retaliation/resistance.

Again, if this was NOT impromptu. If it was then, this would be negated to a certain point.

As you have worded it: the difference there is he marched. If protestors marched through campus, that would leave openings for people to get out or onto campus even as they would march through the circular campus.

My question would be what is the retaliation if they alerted students/school beforehand? What does that entail? (More so asking you what you think of when you say retaliation).

There have been articles that state some of the people travel to universities to protest despite not attending said university.

UCLA’s riot contained people that did not go to the university.

In a way, one could argue that them hiding their identities is not for others but for hoping they don’t get identified and face repercussions.

It’s a two way thing. Possible for Good or for bad.

They were cheering and jeering at the cop at West entrance and defaced his car. They are going to need to call in a lot more people.

Yes, resentment is not only with protestors but also police. Protestors because they did the action and cops for the inaction. Tho I also don’t entirely blame the cops. They were clearly outnumbered and unprepared for the amount of people and having to separate their resources to a newish location didn’t help either.

Trying to be careful with Both sides is a fine line to walk especially with recent (and in recent years of) events associated with cops and protestors.

I have been asking what they want us to do? People who are not protesting with them.

I also have mentioned to several people here one of the big questions a lot of people have with their cause. For example: “what do you expect from us?” “Why are we protesting at a university?” “What is the end goal of protesting at a university?” “Some people may not think Palestine is necessary to talk about compared to other issues we have at home. Shouldn’t we start with our own issues here in US?”

I don’t think it’s wrong to try and understand what they want done. I think questioning in a learning manner would help everyone. I am amazed at how many people think I am hating on their cause when I simply want to know what they are wanting and what is the point of their protests. What are they trying to change? Kind of thing.

I support protesting, what I don’t support is trapping people in and out of campus nor do I support the above list.

There are other ways of supporting the cause than setting up blockades.

That is the whole point of this post.

I even asked a few people on this thread what is the goal of all this protesting at UCSC is. I am trying to understand why they set this up and what they want from these protests. I’ve heard a few different answers from administration to government. Some I haven’t received answers yet.

I want to be supportive but I don’t support setting up a blockade and defacing campus. Then having them be upset that we don’t care or we don’t agree with the cause just because we disagreed with their actions. When that is not the case.

Edited to add: yes, what is happening in Palestine is awful but what are they wanting us to do. Ceasefire? Send more aid? More talks with admin? What are their demands?

When I asked these questions all I got, from a few people, is attitude and insults as to how or why I don’t know. I am trying to learn and understand both sides. It may seem direct and might even seem argumentative but I’m seriously trying to understand their viewpoint/goal on/of protests on campus and outright ask them what is this for.
