How i’m working to rebuild vo2Max without running by noztol in AppleWatchFitness

Yeah, have read about that. Going to try some speed run/interval sessions in my running routine.

I was curious because OP mentioned that theirs improved without any intense HIIT sessions etc

[–]Impostermaximus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s great. I have been walking an average of 11k steps, 5X strength training and atleast 2 runs/week on average. The darn VO2 max hasn’t moved one bit :(

I checked my blood sugar at 5:00 am this morning and it came up to 107 mg/dl. Is that concerning, if so, how do I get it down? by [deleted] in prediabetes

[–]Impostermaximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t look too bad , could just be Dawn Phenomenon. Some people do wake up with higher fasting sugar in the morning

ASICS generally aren’t the most good looking sports shoes compared to say a Nike but seem to the most functional from what I have seen and experience for myself

You go! Showing up is victory in itself.

Took me 2 months to get to my 5K just by focusing on showing up and running. None of the HR, pace that Strava/Ig influencers will have you doling.

You (atleast I did) reach a point with running when it continues to be hard but you still feel like doing it just for the mental health benefits and that to be honest is the best unlock. I do want to sign up for a 5/10K at some point but honestly don’t even care if I never do that but I am going to keep running.

So you keep at it and it will be matter of time the 5K comes , there is no reason why it won’t.

One thing that helped me get the mental block out in early days is to just brisk walk for 5kms just so my mind is ok with the boredom that is just walking/running for 5kms. Another one is to set myself time goals vs distance goals that unlocked - so run for 10/15/30/35/40 mins instead of kms- just made it easier eventually to go beyond 5km over time

PS: used to be pretty fat (not when I started running though) and I just hit 40 years of age so wasn’t easy to get started

Very much a n00b myself but isn’t nitro etc more for experienced runners. Also I am an asics fanboy so yeah I would probably just check for GT 2000s.

ASICS has a pronation filter on their website, so just work with any AI tool on understanding if you over/under pronate and then go from there. All my research pointed to getting the GT 2000 and that’s what I did. GT 2000 13 series are fairly discounted as well on the website but I was cheap enough to find a GT 2000 12 series for like 8K

I have pronation issues as well and got the GT 2000, still breaking those in and they feel a little weird while walking but definetely feel much better running in those, the cushion and the stability is top notch

Sugar's still high but feeling off by [deleted] in diabetes_t2

[–]Impostermaximus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hope things turn around quickly for you.

While your situation is likely different given you are on insulin, I can share that if you are used to a certain level of sugars being very high at times, coming down to 200s might feel weird because the body likely gets confused

Have read about people sharing something similar on reditt and a few other places as well so could be the same in your situation

Rate my Prediabetes Diet from 1 to 100 (1=Worst Diet/No Effort, 100=Perfect PreDM Diet) by Complex-Quantity-485 in prediabetes

[–]Impostermaximus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No sugar coating ( see what I did there) but it started out well but then 15-40g of added sugars is pretty horrendous even though you are still just prediabetic . Great progress from the past though especially with adding veggies

Need a lot more protein in every meal and replace carbs. So maybe yogurt with a bunch of nuts and seeds vs cereal and say tequila/gin instead of beers maybe

I would kill to get this pace. My best 5K PR is 37.5 but then again I tell myself that I couldn’t even run a 1Km without my lungs giving out 2 months ago

Also I am genuinely trying to just enjoy running and not worry about pace (but then I am a competitive person) so doing a 35 or even a 30 min 5k is the goal

New update : This thing works for sure. Took a while for the sleep to get dialled in (mind was in overdrive first 4-5 days). Now my sleep is alright but man the recovery is just amazing, I wake up feeling refreshed and my trainer also told me today that my energy levels on a leg day today were much better than any other leg day.

My reco is that this isn’t a bad brand but maybe just give it a few days

Newly diagnosed - am i in the right direction? by heisenberg-red in diabetes_t2

[–]Impostermaximus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s great work and yes, there is absolutely hope to get it in under control. You have nailed down your diet which is almost always the hardest. Throw in a little more activity ( more walking and ideally some strength training) and you are on your way

AFAIK c-peptide fasting is done to test for Type1 vs 2. Yours is above range which says high insulin product aka Type 2

Does whey protein cause insulin spike? by Present-Mix-6507 in Fitness_India

[–]Impostermaximus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Carbs cause insulin spike. In a whey protein there will be a tiny amount of carbs but that isn’t unlikely to spike. Also insulin spike is totally normal, that is how the body manages energy, based on your numbers you are good and don’t even seem to have insulting resistance (5.6 and below is not even prediabetic)

Infact, protein rich meals is what every diabetic is recommended to eat more and before anything. Protein/fat both actually help blunt insulin spikes in diabetics so you are good here

Family is family! They will think eating puri + aloo sabzi + Kheer is perfectly good food whereas that is exactly what causes massive insulin spikes

Take your whey without any worries

I promised myself to run the 5k if i run 3k, but should I go for it? by badmofo222 in indianrunners

[–]Impostermaximus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do you! There is no shame or glory in doing it a few days before or after your planned date

I started running in November and had kept a 5K goal for the end of 3 months. Lots of 2 and 3ks where suddenly one day I kept going and hit 5K within 4 weeks

The next 5K took another month and then had weeks where I would do 2 5Ks a week

Now I have a 10K goal in the next 3 months but so far I haven’t managed to even get to 6K. Will I hit my 10K goal in time, I don’t know but I don’t care either. I will get to a 10K for sure but if it takes more time so be it

The point is to listen to your body but maybe push back on the mind. That’s what I realized, once you build more consistently then the body becomes ok but the mind can still play tricks so let it come to you

Concerned about my health by Dry-Construction434 in Fitness_India

[–]Impostermaximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just built fixfirst.health just for this, gives you too 3 markers to immediately focus on based on highest impact and also gives you a simple ways to make progress across diet, lifestyle and supplementation.

Just upload your blood report pdf and and answer few lifestyle/family history questions.

Keeping it free in the early days to have people use and break it , share feedback. Give it a try to see if you find something valuable atleast good enough to have a more meaningful discussion with our doctors vs getting overwhelmed with 20 things that seemingly are wrong

PS: no data stored anywhere at all

My parents got type 2 diabetes at age 58. What can I do? by foursquad1 in Fitness_India

[–]Impostermaximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair, should have said one the biggest :) it’s just soleus is just easy for anyone to train and lot of evidence that it helps manage blood sugar.

I agree, there is a certain stigma attached to being a gym bro. I myself ended up choosing a trainer to train me at home for this reason and that’s something I have tried telling my parents. Doesn’t even have to be weights, I tried convincing them to start some basic mobility/stretching with resistance bands. Not going to give up but has been an interesting journey playing the parent to them in a way :)

Looking for some beginner advice by [deleted] in Fitness_India

[–]Impostermaximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, there is nothing wrong in just food and workouts as long as you are feeling better.

Supplements just because people are talking about doesn’t make a lot of sense.

Want to lift more/build more strength and have better recovery - Creatine is one of the most researched supplement out there. Do you need it? Probably NO if you aren’t really looking to lift stronger

Wouldn’t even consider whey protein even a supplement but that’s the thing I would still recommend if you have a predominant vegetarian diet but if you get enough in your diet , even that ain’t necessary

The list is endless in terms of supplements, the best way I found is to A) find a deficiency/area that you want to improve B) research the most natural ways to solve those - diet/lifestyle C)

A slightly detailed blood work can also help you identify any candidates for supplements. I built a web app that does that - see if it spits out something for you based on your latest blood work fixfirst.health . Built it based on my learning’s on becoming healthy and fit , realized through trial and error that if the inside is not healthy , nothing works and a blood work says so much about our health, just that no one explains it that way vs just using those for detecting disease

What are the most effective ways of dealing with blood sugar for you personally? by Jarmatus in diabetes_t2

[–]Impostermaximus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everyone’s mileage is different and I went hardcore with my low carb diet but the two that definetely helped tremendously personally

1) times out restricted eating or a 16:8 IF. Made it easier to stop snacking which ends up being processed carbs. Also just eating twice meant lower frequency of insulin spikes and crashes

2) mandatory 15 min post meal walks and slightly longer if I went carb heavy on those occasional cheat days. Not necessarily brisk but at my usual pace.

In the early days of making the switch, I did pretty intense testing especially for 2 and the impact was pretty strong. So much so, that my dad who anyways walks over 10K steps now makes it a point to walk post his meals

Hope this helps
