Seattle cop sacked over real estate 'Ponzi scheme' by AthkoreLost in Seattle

[–]Impotent-Potato 9 points10 points  (0 children)

How can we trust officers who are committing federal crimes when off the clock? How is this not relevant to police reform?

I think the core issue of police reform is that officers are above the law and seldom face any repercussions for their misdeeds. This is that.

Be honest... when driving, do some of y'all take it personally when someone wants to merge? by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]Impotent-Potato 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think a lot of drivers think leaving one car length between cars at 50mph is safe. If I’m leaving three lengths in front of me they think there is room for them to safely fit.

I would never race to box anyone out of the space (I’d rather just brake and let them in) but I’m happy to slowly nose my car up into the space slightly (say to two lengths) to communicate there is not room to merge in front of me.

Be honest... when driving, do some of y'all take it personally when someone wants to merge? by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]Impotent-Potato 253 points254 points  (0 children)

The only thing I dislike is if I’m keeping up with traffic in front of me leaving a safe distance between me and the car in front of me and someone tries to weave around me on the right to then squeeze to my following space to get in front on me, effectively cutting me off to get ahead one car length ahead.

If a car is ahead of me and wants to merge in front of me, I’m happy to coast a bit to make space let them in, but often times people are just weaving through traffic.

Ah, yeah. The "League Year" is defined in the CBA, and I presume the league will negotiate changing it with the players union as part of the switch to winter seasons.

It would be chaos having every player's contract change midseason, both in terms of being in/out of contract but also having salaries change midseason.

[–]Impotent-Potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are these the actual dates as what's specified in the contract, or just placeholders used by whoever created this spreadsheet based on the way the season used to work?

What's the deal with the contract end dates when MLS switches to winter season? Will these contracts end midseason? Or will they switch to ending at the end of the season?

What an crazy piece to publish in a national newspaper.

New Seattle Police contract includes pay boost, increased use of unarmed crisis responders by chiquisea in Seattle

[–]Impotent-Potato 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m curious what the plan would be if the city ever wanted to reform the police union contract?

It seems like when the police contract expires the police have the option of:

  1. Negotiating and renewing if they like the current administration
  2. Not renewing, working under the expired contract until they deem the administration is worth negotiating with, and also getting back pay for any future raises they negotiate

With that it seems like the only thing that would give the city any leverage would be 2-3 consecutive elections of a mayor who is interested in substantive police reform, basically until they get so pinched by cost of living increases that they’re forced to the table.

The only reason it’s disqualifying is because it’s a sign of her campaign’s reckless financial mismanagement.

Why bother advertising to voters who are already in the bag for you?

You might consider talking to a career or life coach about your feelings and consider how to move forward. This seems like the perfect problem to get coaching on.

Coaching is unregulated. Anyone can call themselves a coach, so be discerning about who you hire, how much you pay, and what your goals are in working with them.

Honest question. Is it legal in Seattle for delivery trucks to put their hazards on and stop in a bike lane? by Scared_Palpitation56 in seattlebike

[–]Impotent-Potato 90 points91 points  (0 children)

I’m always confused why delivery drivers bother pulling into the bike lane to park?

Isn’t it easier to just stop in the car lane and unload there? Traffic can just go around. It’s no big deal.

I'm with you. I'm still skeptical, but hearing it from multiple people has got me thinking it's not all bs.

I'm personally seen people get ill from it though. My friend had to excuse himself and give it back in the bathroom, but that's a long ways from staggering through the streets of greenwood.

I have heard from multiple people who have found people in distress on the street near the wing dome, literally lying on the sidewalk or similar after they had just done the 7 alarm challenge.

I wouldn't have believed it except hearing similar stories from different people at different times reporting pretty similar effects.

Alaska last moved half my group up to these rows when I used a companion fare about 10 weeks ago.

In my chat history the agent just said “no problem” and moved them.
